“the world is dying to know who you are” - More like Jesus

32 As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. 33 And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” 34 But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.”

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Do we have this heart?
Are we seeing the world like Jesus sees the world?
Do we see the one like Jesus sees the one?

The Woman at the Well

Part 1:
Physical context

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

From Judea through Samaria to Galilea
How far were the traveling?
about 70 to 80 miles. it would be similar to traveling from the deception pass parking by the bridge, to the Clinton ferry landing, and then back to Oak Harbor.
Where were entering the story...
they’ve traveled, BY FOOT to a town called Sychar, about 30 miles, this would be like they made it to Langley heading south.
Jesus is tired
Who can relate with Jesus here?
He sits down to rest while his disciples go to town to get some food.
Part 2:
When you’re tired… i mean like been walking in the sun for hours tired… do you make any effort what so ever to connect with any living being?!
Jesus and the woman at the well.
Quick note. its 12 in the afternoon, this is a very uncommon time to be fetching water! Usually it was done in the morning or evening. SO WHY IS THIS RANDOM LADY SHOWING UP FOR WATER?
Jesus: “would you give me a drink of water?”
Woman: *Taken aback* “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
Jesus: “If you knew the gereosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”
living water would be a reference to a source of fresh water that would be from a stream or river.
Woman: Sir, you don’t even have a bucket to draw with, and this well is deep. So how are you going to get this ‘living water’? Are you a better man than our ancestor Jacob, who dug this well and drank from it, he and his sons and livestock, and passed it down to us?”
asdfg
Jesus: “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst- not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”
Woman: (thinking she was talking to a voss rep) “Sir, give me this water so I won’t ever get thirsty, won’t ever have to come back to this well again!”
But in all seriousness look at the weight of her words
she may not fully know what is taking place. but she’s believing
Believe with your heart confess with your mouth
Jesus: “Go call your husband and then come back.”
Woman: “I have no husband.”
Jesus: “That’s nicely put; ‘I have no husband’ you’ve had five husbands, and the man you’re living with now isn’t even your husband. You spoke the truth there, sure enough.”
Woman: “Oh, so you’re a prophet! Well, tell me this: Our ancestors worshiped God at this mountain, but you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place for worship, right?”
She realizes that he’s not just some guy
Jesus: “Believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the father. You worship what you do not know, we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the father in spirit and truth, for the father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Woman: “I know that Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will tell us all things.”
Jesus: “I who speak to you am he.”
SHE LEAVES HER JUG!
The disciples, watching this conversation, were astonished. After the woman left they brought
