Loving God is something we can turn off and on.
You can’t simply love God when its convenient for you.
But true love for will make you faithful to Him despite what life might throw at you.
I think one of our main problems when it comes to love is we are often stuck focusing on the noun love and not the verb.
We day dream about love and the feeling of love, but struggle with the verb or action to love.
If we focus on the action, i think we will began to enjoy the feeling of being loved.
This is what Moses conveys as he gives his farewell speech and recalls how God gave the law to the people as they prepared to enter the promised land.
Loving God Is Being Loyal To God
You shall love God is a command.
But you cannot carry out the command without first making a confession
To hear God and not obey is to not hear God at all.
The command is singular but emphasizes a corporate or collective nature of the addresses, Israel.
The covenant is made with the whole nation and the whole nation must heed to the command.
That means the command is for the church to and every member is to love him collectively.
It is to be taught to your children and in your community.
Loving Is To Love Him From the Inside Out
Moses tells us there three levels to loving God.
With all your heart that is the emotions and mind.
The innermost part of you.
With all your soul, that is your entire person, your appetite/desires.
With all your might, that is all your substance.
This include physical strength, but also economic or social strength as well.
Tools, gifts, money, etc
A little boy declared that he loved his mother “with all his strength.”
He was asked to explain what he meant by “with all his strength.”
He said: “Well, I’ll tell you.
You see, we live on the fourth floor of this tenement; and there’s no elevator, and the coal is kept down in the basement.
Mother is busy all the time, and she isn’t very strong; so I see to it that the coal hold is never empty.
I lug the coal up four flights of stairs all by myself.
And it’s a pretty big hold.
It takes all my strength to get it up here.
Now, isn’t that loving my mother with all my strength?”
—Gospel Herald
When you love God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your might, it has its benefits.
It can make your days long.
It can add days and years to your life.
It can make things go well for your.
If need some motivation, like the children of Israel think about your exodus experience.
What has God brought you ought of?
What has He delivered you from.
Christ delivered us from the penalty of sin.
