The attributes of God

-In our foundations verse it starts out with saying, “everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man...” . We are to listen to what our Lord tells us, and then do them. This is a wise man! For the next few weeks, I would like to dig in study to understand why we should listen to Jesus, and to do this I want to focus on who Jesus is and what His attributes are. We will try and look at the Attributes of God in the Old Testament and then see what the New Testament has to say concerning Jesus.-

What are some of the Attributes of God that come to mind?
God is eternal
God is Eternal
God is
God is independent (He does not need us)
God is Holy
God does not change (immutability)
God is unable to sin (Impeccability)
God is Incomprehensible
God is all powerful (Omnipotence)
God is everywhere (Omnipresence)
God is all knowing (Omniscience)
God is Love
God is Eternal. What comes to mind when we hear this?
(ESV)
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
-My prayer is that as we go through these Attributes of God it would bring us into awe of how great God is and how small we are. Also that it would help us to understand the trinity of God.-
Jesus said in Revelation
(ESV)
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
(ESV)
6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
(ESV)
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
What do these versus say to you about Jesus?
-There are other verses that tell us that Jesus is everlasting, but I think these are the most common. The important thing is that we understand that Jesus is not a created being like us, but eternal God. -
Memory verse
(ESV)
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
3 You return man to dust
and say, “Return, O children of man!”
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Think about this verse as you memorize it this week and ponder on what it is saying about God in relationship to us.
