Paul Charges Timothy under a Solemn Oath to Preach the Word

Paul testifies before to wItnesses that he is asking Timothy to take a solemn oath to fulfill the ministry God has entrusted to him. God and Jesus are looking on as Timothy accepts Paul’s charge. The charge is urgent because Paul has come to the end of his ministry and his life.
Christ is about to judge the living and the dead for their sins. Christ will judge Christians for their stewardship of the ministry and life God has entrusted to them. Timothy can also be encouraged, by the fact, that God and Christ will be watching and empowering his ministry.
Today Rodolfo you must not take lightly the call to serve God and fulfill your ministry.
Paul now explains the particulars of his charge to Timothy.

Rodolfo, today we charge you to “Preach the Word.

Preach means to be a herald. A herald is one you goes forth, on the King’s behalf , speaking (publicly proclaiming a message) to His people.
The message you speak is a matter of life and death—a matter of judgment resulting in punishment or reward. Christ will return and judge everyone who lives and dies.
Paul instructs Timothy to be prepared at all times to speak the Word of truth.

Paul Commands Timothy to Preach in Accordance with God’s Purpose of the Text and the Situation.

Paul commands Timothy to stand prepared to preach with purpose.
Peaching will sometimes Reprove, sometimes Rebuke, and other times Exhort the hearers to action.
Reprove convinces the mind of wrong behavior, by the proclamation and promotion of God’s Truth.
Rebuke convicts the heart of the need to repent, and obey God’s Word of truth.
Positive aspect of preaching requires encouragement and exhortation. Following the warnings of Scripture must be coupled with encouragement to trust Jesus’ promises.
Timothy is to use God’s Word to convince the congregation when their are wrong. the Word of truth is adequate to provide evidence that someone’s life is contrary to God’s will and ways.
God’s Word also is the standard by which wrong behavior is judged and corrected.
God’s Word provides the encouragement the congregation needs to come to repentance and dependence on Christ and HIS work on their behalf.
PAUL NOW describes the manner Timothy must preach the Word.

Effective preaching requires patience and biblical instruction

A pastor/preacher must patiently instruct those under His watch as Christ watches over his ministry. You will be studying and preparing so that you can teach God’s people His desires for their lives. This will require great patience, because convincing them of the truth, rebuking them to turn from sinful ways, and encouraging and exhorting them will not always be easy.
Paul tells Timothy the reason he must stand ready to preach is because the time will come that people will not want to hear the truth.

Preaching Defends Sound Doctrine, when People don’t want to Listen to God

The time will come when people will gather teachers, for themselves, who only tell them what they want to hear.

Paul Charges Timothy to remain Faithful

The difference between Timothy and false teachers is His faithfulness to God’s Word, God’s Call, and God’s Will.

Fulfill Your Call to Preach, Remain Faithful to Your Call, and Christ will Reward You.

Rodolfo today we change you to preach the Word.
The Word of God will always be the subject of your sermons.
The purpose of your sermons will always be to encourage people to take God at His word. Christ will judge us for how we obey His truth. Christ Obeyed God’s word, died for our sins, offers us a pardon, and promises to help us live by the Word of truth.
Let your sermons convince our need to repent and ask for forgiveness.
Let your sermons rebuke those who do not obey God’s standard for life.
Let your sermons encourage others to trust Jesus to do for us what we can’t do for ourselves. Christ can forgive us, Christ can change our hearts desires, and Christ can empower us to Faithfully fulfill our ministry.
