Have you ever just thought if I had this or that I could take care of my family better? I could do my job better. I could even do more for God.
If only you would give me __________ then I would be able to do more for you.
I sure have!
If only
Elisha (my God saves) was an early Hebrew prophet who succeeded the prophet Elijah. A prophet is one who speaks on behalf of God and interprets what He has said. Elisha’s work consisted of presenting the Word of God through prophecy, advising kings, anointing kings, helping the needy, and performing several miracles. He was the times Billy Graham plus some.
Anyone else know what I’m talking about?
Elisha oversaw a group of prophets which we will see in a moment.
I know that I’ve missed the point on this and I’m sure many of you have also.
2 Kings 4:1-7
2 Kings 4:1–7 NIV
1 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
I’m so focused on what God hasn’t given me or what I simply don’t have that I don’t give God what I do have and let Him work from there.
It’s not a one and done story.
God created the earth out of…nothing.
Genesis 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
What about Moses?
Exodus 4:2 NIV
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.
What did Jesus ask his disciples?
Mark 6:38 NIV
38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
“God can use little but he can’t use me…I have a past.”
Well, so do I.
So did...
Joseph had a prison record.
Moses had an unanswered murder charge
David had an affair with his neighbor’s wife and then had her husband killed.
The list goes on and on!
