I think sometimes we may believe that what we do is somehow more important then what someone else does
We begin to come to play in our hearts we start thinking that we do so much more for Gods kingdom then most the other people
I think sometimes we forget in a church to give credit where credit is due.
We forget the our church hinges on a lot more then just what meets the eye
We walk into church and forget if someone hadn’t cleaned it we would be sitting in dirt
We forget that if someone didn’t clean the dishes after a church dinner that we would have nothing to dip our spaghetti out with today
We often don’t give credit cause we feel we’ve all deserved it more then the other person
Have you ever been a restaurant and finished you’re food.
It got time to pay and you got the bill and as went to leave a tip maybe got a little greedy.
you justified it by things like “the other people in the restaurant probably left a tip” or “I’ve just had better service then this” or maybe “I already have gave so much money to this place already”.
We justify our greediness by making excuses.
We fail to give credit where it is due.
We failed in leaving a decent tip in greed not for any of the above excuses.
Now if there is anyone in here that is like the person i mentioned in my illustration then pay attention cause you need to learn how to give credit where it is due.
or “I’ve just had better service” or maybe “I already have gave so much money to this place”
If there is anyone here who says i’m not like that then think back to every time you can think that someone did something for you.
Now have you thanked them as much as you should have.
now continue to pay close attention cause odds are you are like that.
Just in a different capacity
You are greedy with you’re thankfulness towards you’re brother and sister
You are emotionally greedy not monetarily greedy
I wanna take a look at these verses a few at a time
first lets look at verse 21-24
in v 21 Paul is referring to the body of christ in saying you cant tell one body part that you’re unneeded.
The head may be more noticeable and get a lot of the attention but the head cant tell the feet they aren't needed.
the head may be noticed but without the feet everyone would be noticing the guy who couldn’t walk.
The body would have a handicap cause it is missing a member
I may be the pastor but if i disregard one of my feet then the church will get a handicap
It takes each body part to function in the same our church should take each member of the body in thankfulness and gratitude as a asset
v21 kinda is on the same thing
Paul wants the church to understand even though you each have different gifts and purposes you must work together as a unit as a whole
You can’t be a complete functioning body without all the parts
v22 and 23 and 25
are talking about a financial division at the time there was more then likely a big division in the church cause the less wealthy weren’t being treated as equals
They were apparently looked at as unhelpful and unneeded
but Paul is saying don’t look at these people as a problem look at them as a asset in there own way they are part of the body and they help to make it function
v 26 Paul really wants to speak with us on Unity
That we as a church when we fulfil the biblical aspect of a church we suffer together we succeed together.
In v 27-31 Paul speaks on unifying the church together as one body of christ
He speaks on even though we all have different church offices and different gifts we all function as one body working toward the same goal
That’s where thankfulness comes into play
these verses were sent to the church to solve a problem.
The problem was some people in the church saw them-self as more important then other people
Some because they had more money, some because there church office appeared more important but whatever the reason the problem was the same
Everyone thought they were better then everyone else
In our church we should strive to be as good of a body as we can
The first step in doing this is not looking at others as though our job is more important
The person who’s only calling is to pray for peoples has no less calling then me as a preacher.
Before I started preaching I taught a kids Sunday school class 5th grade to 7th grade.
I had the opportunity to walk in most Sundays and feel God allowing me to play just a small role in bettering that time in they’re life.
It was where I got the fire to preach cause I saw God using me to make a impact.
I had the opportunity to pray with some kids during that time.
One kid in particular you could see the conviction on him every Sunday morning in sunday school and i eventually was given to privledge of leading this kid to Christ.
A few days after that a Pastor came up to me not knowing I was considering being a pastor and said I just want you to know a sunday school teacher has the affect to change peoples lives toward christ like a pastor never will.
I thought on that a lot and over time it sank in that though i did feel the calling to preach at that time in my life God used me to have a bigger impact then i could even imagine.
The point is though at the time I saw myself and my position as not good enough.
However I later came to realize those people can have as big a impact as a Pastor.
What im saying is though were each called to different things none of us can have any less impact then the other
Our church is buikt in unity through Jesus
its by that unity that you may feel called to sweep the floors or do the dishes but whatever it is you're impact is just important as the preachers or deacons singers or sunday school teachers
Those positions may go as more noticed but other postions have the same significance of importance
