7 Characteristic Traits of a Godly Leader
Introduction
John Maxwell says that ‘Leadership is influence.”
John Maxwell’s leadership organization has trained more than 1 million leaders worldwide.
Of which, I am one.
He points out that, according to sociologists, even the most isolated individual:
You will influence 10,000 other people during your lifetime!
individual will influence 10,000 other people during his or her lifetime!
In one sense there is only one leader.
In my New Testament reading today, Jesus says, ‘There is only one Life-Leader for you... Christ’ (, MSG).
On the other hand, every Christian is called to be a leader in the sense that other people will look to you as an example.
You have influence over others in different ways.
Our confidence comes from God.
To be called by God to influence others is an enormous privilege, but it carries with it great responsibility.
David was a leader who had confidence.
It wasn’t self-confidence.
It was confidence in God.

Notice how David recognizes his need for God.
God is David’s Protector (v.30b; 35)
God is David’s Strength (v.32-33)
God is David’s Trainer (v.34)
God is David’s Guide (v. 28, 30)
So, I want to briefly share with you 7 characteristic traits of a godly leader.

Criticism
A leader will receive criticism.
Rick Warren
‘Criticism is the cost of influence.
As long as you don’t influence anybody, nobody is going to say a peep about you.
But the greater your influence... the more critics you are going to have.’
In Jesus attacks the religious leaders of his day with strong language.
The ‘woe to you’ statements offer the characteristics of a godly leader.
