The theme of Proverbs is that wisdom is a good thing. Everyone could agree with that Statement.
That really means nothing unless you can agree what wisdom is and where does it come from, who defines it.
Our country today: Border wall is immoral, killing a newborn baby is not immoral.
Recognition that there is a creator God, He has established the earth and that it works according to His will, no way around His precepts and laws.
Christianity is based on this, foundational truth.
Wisdom brings peace, happiness.
Contrasted with wicked, opposed to God’s teaching. Knowing and refusing to do.
Folly is the activity of a fool. Not knowing and not caring.
Wisdom is defined by knowing God and being led by Him.
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
a) Wisdom is good. Most valuable possession a person can have.
· You did not come equipped from the factory with it. Vs 13 Something that is found.
· Vs 13 also clears up that it is also something that is chosen. Getteth, received.
· Kids that sit in church their whole lives, soon as they have some freedom they reject wisdom they found in church and choose folly instead.
b) Wisdom has a different kind of value.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
Christmas money, sit around for weeks deciding what they want to get with their Christmas money.
Some of you are already thinking about what you are going to get with your tax return.
Silver and gold buy whatever is of equal value to their weight, or denomination.
You might find a sale someplace and get a better value for your money, stretch it out.
Wisdom will not buy you anything at Walmart.
It gives you the capability of vision that sees reality and makes real prosperity possible.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
It enables good choices.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Wisdom enables good choices.
Impact your earnings, sure it will. Never be more capable of being blessed than by being in God’s will.
Wisdom comes bearing gifts, right hand, most importantly, length of days.
Left hand riches and honor.
Honor acheived in a godly way used for godly purposes.
Another aspect to it. “a fool and his money are soon parted.”
19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. 27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. 29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. 30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
