A Wave A Whale and a Worm

Jonah 1:1-14

To help the church realize the mission of the church

Intro

What did Jonah run

Because the Ninevites were not Jews

Did not want to be a false prophet

          Feared the Ninevites

Protest against God’s move toward the violently wicked

                   Witness to Jonah’s enemies

Why  do we run from God’s call

Do we believe “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you?

Great commission

Still we avoid being a witness

Our running away from our call has consequences

          Ninevites

          Sailors

          Friend family lost

Crisis of belief

Still trying to hide, denial

            Try to rationalize the situation

Brought him back to real life

Confession

He was acting like a prophet again

WHAT!!!

God was finally able to get Jonah to do what he wanted

Give his life for the message

Jonah still could not do it himself
