*The Sin of Pride*

 

Verse:   *Proverbs 16:18-19*

 

*18**     Pride /goes/ before destruction, And a haughty spirit before 6a fall.

*19**     Better /to be/ of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the 7spoil with the proud.

*

 

*Intro:* Pride is a sin before God that causes us to forget why we serve and who we serve God.

Pride causes us to forget that God has complete authority our lives and through him our blessings flow.

Sinful pride causes us have an arrogance and boastful nature which is against will of God.

Your prideful nature will lead to your destruction.

·        Verse 15 demonstrates the  power kings enjoyed great favor they could decided who        lived and who die

·        Verse 16: Better to have wisdom than gold to have understanding

·        Verse 17: To be upright and depart from evil and not allow sin pollute our soul

·        Verse 18 : Pride will cause you to fall

·        Verse 19; better to have a humble spirit than to divide ill gotten the  pride

 

*Bible Story*

 

Nebuchadnezzar through his pride was commending himself on how he by his own power built the beautiful city of Babylon.

While he was speaking these words, the Lord struck him down to live like an animal in the fields.

At the end of seven years his sanity returned, and he praised and worshiped God.

When his mind returned, so did his honor, and his kingdom, with even greater honor than before.

Then Nebuchadnezzar praised and glorified and honored the King of Heaven.

(Daniel, chapter 4).

*All sin is rooted in arrogance, when we think of ourselves and our abilities more highly than we should and we try to elevate ourselves above God**.*

*Having a Boastful Spirit*

 

There are so many Christians who serve the Lord solely for the purpose of gaining recognition for their abilities and not just because they want to be a blessing.

It’s not hard to spot them in a crowd because they are always talking and they love to brag.

Their sermon is always the best.

Their church is always the biggest, best and fastest growing.

Their music is better than anyone else’s.

Everything about them is bigger and better than anyone else and they love to tell everyone about it.

23      This is what the Lord says:“ Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.

24   But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things.
