Luke 13:22-30 Exegetical Study

  • ἀγωνίζεσθε, “fight/struggle/make every effort,” reflects the language of struggle or contest that can be found in the Hellenistic diatribe, but also in Jewish and early Christian ethical exhortation
    • 1 Tim 4:10; 6:11–12; 2 Tim 4:7–8
    • Luke establishes a dialectic between human responsibility stressed here and the priority of God’s grace and initiative.
