Love - Part 2

Kidz World Today - Children’s Church
John 15:12 NLT
This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
Love
Last Week - We discussed The number one command we have as believers is to love one another.
We also know that Love Requires Commitment
We looked at the Prophet Elisha when he was called by God to minister with the Prophet Elijah he cut out his exit strategy, by burning all that was familiar to him - meaning his cattle and equipment to honor his commitment to God!
Today I want to talk about the
“Sacrifice of Love” and Speaking The Truth In Love
Saving Private Ryan tells the story of a young soldier (Private Ryan) whose brothers have been killed in battle. To spare his family the agony of losing all of their sons, the government orchestrates a rescue mission to save him and send him home. The rescue team is led by a no-nonsense army captain who seems to believe that the whole thing is a bad idea.
In the film’s final scene, the captain is fatally wounded while fulfilling his mission. With his dying words, he looks the soldier in the eyes and says, “Earn this! Earn it.” The film flashes forward many decades, and we see Private Ryan as an old man standing at the grave of that captain. You can tell he has been haunted by those words and trying to “earn it” all his life, but he never knows for sure if he has measured up. He pleads with the grave, seeking approval, but he finds none.
Many people believe they have put their faith in Jesus, but they also believe they have to earn what he did for them on the cross.
Here’s the good news: when Jesus was hanging on that cross, dying to save you, he did not use his dying words to say, “Earn this.” Do you know what he said instead? He said, “It is finished!”
Jesus Sacrificed - Laying his life down to save you and me!
John 15:12–13 NLT
This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Sacrifice
There is a Nike ad, which states, “Believe in something. Even it means sacrificing everything,” is a striking nod to Colin Kaepernick’s 2016 public statement against racism and social injustice, in which he kneeled during the national anthem.
John 13:34–35 NKJV
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Love Speaks Truth
Ephesians 4:15–16 The Message
God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.
There are some that speak the truth, but there is not much love.
1. They almost seem to be angry.
2. It seems that they always have a point to prove, and they are determined to pound into the ground anyone who might have a different view.
B. Speaking the truth in love is in contrast to the people who lie in wait to deceive.
1. Sometimes the folks who are deceitful seem more loving than those who are speaking the truth.
2. Their loving mannerisms are a part of the whole deceptive attempt to ensnare you and that’s not love
It is important that we speak the truth.
It is also important that we do so in love.
If we don’t get this Love thing operating efficiently in our lives then we are challenged to have powerful ministries, solid homes , marriages and children who will know what to stand for
Ephesians 4:13 NCV
This work must continue until we are all joined together in the same faith and in the same knowledge of the Son of God. We must become like a mature person, growing until we become like Christ and have his perfection.
1 Corinthians 1:10 The Message
I have a serious concern to bring up with you, my friends, using the authority of Jesus, our Master. I’ll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.
1 Corinthians 1:10 NKJV
Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Love
Until we can look in the mirror and come to terms with our own sins and our own need for God’s grace, we’ll never be able to see ourselves or others through the lens of love.
God wants us to have a heart for loving unlovable people because that’s what God did for us.
He loved us much more than we could ever deserve, and he calls us to do the same for others.
