- Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left, 7 that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them, 8 but you shall cling to the LORD your God just as you have done to this day.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. \
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
- Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
- 14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,
() As we leave here, let’s remember what we have learned. This way we wont be considered fools because we are young, but we will actually set all other Christians an example in how we speak, in what we do, in our faith, in how we live. Let’s devote ourselves to the Scripture: make sure it is heard, make sure it is taught, make sure it is applied. () Why? Because we know that it is true! We have heard godly people teach about it, we have seen the Holy Spirit work in it- showing us salvation! This is God’s Word. He has given it to us for teaching, for double-checking us, for correcting us, for training us to be ready, willing, and able to do all the good things that God has laid out for us. () This is not some useless book. It isn’t just some nice guy with a Jesus name tag said “love everyone” and made the rest of this useless. No, he didn’t get rid of this, he fulfilled it. All of this is still true. In fact, it is all about how to live for God through him, by the Holy Spirit. We couldn’t possibly start dissecting this and lower the holy standard that God asks us to live by. If we desire to please Him, to live as He asks, then we need to understand that we must pursue Him on the terms that He outlined: His Word. This word (Bible) teaches us the Word (Jesus) that we need to know to be a child of God. Anything less than perfect holiness is not fit for His Kingdom. () Since we believe that, let’s live like we believe that. We have his word in our hand and His Word in our hearts, let’s walk forward on the path this shows us. We don’t need anything else. Let’s forget about the distractions, the thrills, the fun this world says is more important than holiness and joy found in God. The things that this world worships will pollute our minds and poison our souls. Let’s run from what we know is evil and cling desperately to God. In Him there is rest. () This rest we know is eternal and good and joyous and peaceful. But, we can so easily ignore this offer of a new life in Christ Jesus lived out by the Word of God, simply by being disobedient. But, we'll never know how many chances we are going to get. We don’t know how our lives will unfold: but we do know right now. Right now we know that if the voice of God is speaking us to through His Word we should listen. Do not harden your heart to the rest that He is offering. Let’s strive to enter that rest. This might sound scary, like it is asking you to leave everything. It is. You can’t have two Gods. The Bible is showing us with surgical precision exactly how naked you are and how badly you need someone to save you. From your past, to your thoughts, to all your future plans— this book reveals to us that we are going to stand in front of the eyes of God and be responsible for every word we spoke or action we commited. But this book doesn’t just cut deep. It sutures the wound. Here we meet our Jesus, who knows how we feel. In Him is shown the mercy and forgiveness we need. He died for us. But, he is alive now! We can wait for Him to come back with love, hope, and joy. () Our waiting has a specific look though. We don’t just leave Secret Church bored, with nothing to do. The Scriptures gives “instructions” to follow. As we wait, we work. We work on ourselves by the power for the Spirit with faith in God to live right and righteously. That way, when Jesus comes for us we can make Him proud by our purity and our fight against sin. That doesn’t mean we will be perfect, but it means we will be patient. We will study God’s Word even though it is hard to understand at times. Even though other people use it wrongly in ignorance. And we have seen that already in our lives. So, we can expect ignorant or evil people to bend what this says, bringing God’s anger on them. We can expect it and make sure that we are not tricked and fall down when people call evil things good, or good things evil— because we will know what it says. We will grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord an Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
