But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man. And he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.” So Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’ ”” (, NKJV)

However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her. Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!” So she said to him, “No, indeed! This evil of sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her. Then he called his servant who attended him, and said, “Here! Put this woman out, away from me, and bolt the door behind her.” Now she had on a robe of many colors, for the king’s virgin daughters wore such apparel. And his servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.” (, NKJV)
How did it work out for Amnon after he followed the advice of the ungodly?
Lot walks in the counsel of the wicked. (pitched his tent toward Sodom)

8 So Abram said to Lot, j“Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. 9 kIs not the whole land before you? Please lseparate from me. mIf you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

10 And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all nthe plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the LORD odestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) plike the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward qZoar. 11 Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot rdwelt in the cities of the plain and spitched his tent even as far as Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom twere exceedingly wicked and usinful against the LORD.

So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.” And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.” (, NKJV)
By the time of the the battles between the kings of Sodom and Gamorrah against the invading armies led by Chedorlaomer king of Elam (IRAN). Lot was dwelling in Sodom.
And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. Now the Valley of Siddim was full of asphalt pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled; some fell there, and the remainder fled to the mountains. Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. They also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and they were allies with Abram.” (, NKJV)
Later when God is getting ready to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, and the angels come to rescue Lot, we find that Lot not only lives in the City, but has a seat at the gate of the city.
Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.” (, NKJV)
Even though Lot lived among the ungodly he was still considered a righteous man, but his life was not a happy life. He had decided to live near sin and in the end it cost him everything. ()
and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked” (, NKJV)

The blessed person finds his pleasure in the Word of God.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (, NKJV)

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, (, NKJV)

The word “Delight”

2656. חֵפֶץ ḥēp̱eṣ: A masculine noun meaning delight, pleasure, desire, matter. The root idea is to incline toward something.

His desire, or pleasure is in the Torah, or Law of the Lord.
What does it mean to delight in the law of the Lord?
Jeremiahs example in the midst of persecution. He is lamenting his existence and asking God to judge his persecutors. His words are reminiscent of . ()
Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts. I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, Nor did I rejoice; I sat alone because of Your hand, For You have filled me with indignation.” (, NKJV)

And in His law he meditates day and night.” (, NKJV)

How does on meditate on the word of God day and night?
The Hebrew word for Meditate means to “murmur” or “to mutter”. it means speaking to one’s self in a low voice.
Forced religion is meaningless and unacceptable to God.
Those who delight in Gods Word and seek to obey its commands are accepted by God. They delight in making progress in the keeping of Gods Word; of learning about God. It is out of the Love for God and his word that the keeping of his law, or his word proceeds.
To the one who delights in Gods Word, his thoughts are never far from the word of God. All decisions, all distresses, and persecutions, and victories are brought under the authority of the Word..... What God has to say about the situation.
Did Jesus give us an example of what it means to meditate on Gods word in John 8:31?
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.” (, NKJV)

He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, (, NKJV)

What is a tree planted by rivers of water like?
What does promise to the one who delights to meditate on God’s Word day and night?
What did Jesus say to the women at the well about the one to whom he would give living water?
Was He speaking of regular water? What was he referring to?
Compare with
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”” (, NKJV)
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (, NKJV)

That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; (, NKJV)

What would you call a tree that never withers, and always brings forth fruit in it season?
What happens if a tree lacks nourishment?
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (, NKJV)
Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” (, NKJV)

And whatever he does shall prosper.” (, NKJV)

Does this verse mean that the righteous man will never face persecutions?
What does it mean when it says he shall prosper in whatever he does?

The ungodly are not blessed.

The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.” (, NKJV)

Here we have a contrast between the righteous and the ungodly. God does not treat them in the same way.
What is the significance of the words “not so” in verse 4?
“they are like chaff”… what is chaff?
Is chaff worth anything?
What is done with chaff?
Opening Up Psalms The Wretchedness of the Ungodly Person (vv. 4–6)

The psalmist’s mention of chaff takes us back to the farming techniques of that time. The farmer would place the wheat he had harvested on a stone threshing floor and drive his oxen around it so that their hooves would separate the grain from the husks. He would then use a kind of fork or shovel to pitch the grain and the chaff in the air. The grain would fall to the floor to be preserved and the chaff would be blown away.

The chaff represents those whose lives are not rooted in the Word of God.

How did John the Baptist speak of a future judgement and how the ungodly are like chaff? ()
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”” (, NKJV)
Chaff is also described as blowing before the wind in , and

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.” (, NKJV)

Does this verse mean that the ungodly will not see judgement?
Will the wicked make it the the place of blessing with the righteous?

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (, NKJV)

The word “know” in the Bible means much more than the mental understanding indicated when we say, “I know the names of the twelve Apostles.” In addition, it carries the idea of choosing and caring.

Christ’s statement to the lost is, “I never knew you” ().
The Lord knows the way of the righteous: He has planned it and marked it out (), and He keeps His eyes upon the righteous as they walk this way.
The life of the godly person is an eternal plan of God! What he says, where he goes, what he does—all of these have eternal consequences.
But the ungodly have “turned every one to his own way” (). The path of the righteous leads to glory (), but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (, NKJV)
