God Created Man

Genesis 1:26–28 NKJV
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Last week we discussed the reason we believe that there is a living God and that He can be communicated with and in fact has been communicating to man since the beginning of creation
This week we want to discuss the creation of man and his fall from his appointed position
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
As we open this study we are faced with the first reflection of the Trinity. Let US make man in OUR image
Not Let me or me & you but US signifying the singularity and plurality of God
God had a very real plan for creating these beings, He desired that they would be a reflection of who He was - creative, communicative, free to choose, and living according to a moral and just code
Notice here that He created them Male and Female
The Hebrew verb hear means to “make, accomplish or complete”
Complete Word Study Dictionary of the Old Testament- it is defined as “performing a an activity for a distinct purpose, a moral obligation, and a goal in view!
I am not going to spend a lot of time here but I want you to see that God created the system to reproduce after their kind!
Genesis 1:24 NKJV
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.
In Biology we have classifications of Kingdoms, Phylum
They include Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.
The kingdom Animalia comprises 36 phyla. The kingdom Plantae comprises 12 phyla, and the kingdom Fungi comprises 7 phyla
Each of those reproducing after its own kind! It is impossible to cross orders and expect reproduction…so it is with same sex unions - they cannot reproduce thereby they are contrary to the design of God for Humans - God is a God of order and unchangeableness so we were able to put a man on the moon with a slide rule!
It is in His image that man was created OT:6754
The word is also used in a concrete sense to depict images cut out of or molded from various materials. The word describes the images or idols of foreign or strange gods
His likeness - It is the word meaning the comparison between two unlike things having the same characteristics - sin and the venom of a snake
Genesis 5:3 NKJV
And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.
Ezekiel 1:5 NKJV
Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man.
So we see that man is like God but not God! That’s why Satan constantly wants to pervert the natural order for the unnatural order of things
Man’s commission then was to multiply and have dominion over Kingdom earth
Multiply - to increase in volume, extent, power and influence!
God’s people were given total authority and power over even the angelic realm - many commentators believe that this is why Satan led a rebellion because he wanted the authority to rule!
Dominion
The word here isn’t aggressive in nature but rather to lead, guide, set the example,
Leviticus 25:43 NKJV
You shall not rule over him with rigor, but you shall fear your God.
In speaking of the commission of man we see the following verses:
Psalm 8:4–6 NKJV
What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
We see the order of God’s created beings
Man - lower than the angles yet crowned with glory and given all dominion!
Think about that - you have more power and authority than the angelic realm!
The word “ have dominion” means that everything under you is powerless and subjected to your derived authority in Christ!
This is why we in Christ now can regain the authority over the enemy
Matthew 10:1 NKJV
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.
Matthew 28:18–19 NKJV
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
This is why when we discuss the outpouring of the Holy Spirit we believe that the believer is endued with this power which is not currently available to him because of the unregenerate spirit within!
The problem came when Adam and Eve gave the delegated authority to Satan when they sinned!
The original plan for man was to rule the Kingdom of the Earth and now the redeemed goal for man will ultimately be to have dominion over the new heavens and earth for eternity!
Genesis 2:15–17 NKJV
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Next week we will see the consequences of the violation of that law and the beginning of the long journey to redeem man from himself
