Introduction

So, if everyone can come and take a seat that would be great.
PAUSE till children quieten down.
So, have we all had a good time tonight?? Well, we’re now at the part of the evening where we look at a story in the bible and how it links to the lives of both you and me.
Now, can anyone remember what, or rather who, we looked at last week?
ASK CHILDREN THEIR OPINION.
Yes, that’s right. We looked at a man called Abraham. Does anyone know what happened in the story about Abraham, or what God did for Abraham?
ASK CHILDREN THEIR OPINION.
Yes, that’s right. God made a promise to Abraham that He would make him into a great nation and have lots of land and cattle.

Sub-Introduction

God also promised Abraham something else. Can anyone remember what God promised that Abraham and Sarah would be given?
ASK CHILDREN THEIR OPINION.
Yes, that’s right. God said that He would give Abraham and Sarah a son. Well today, we’re going to be looking at the birth of the son that God promised to Abraham.

The Lord Appears at the Oaks of Mamre

First, let’s go back a little bit first to look at how God showed up to Abraham and Sarah.
Now, Abraham and Sarah lived in a place with lots of oak trees. Put your hand up if you think that you know what an oak tree looks like.
PAUSE
Well, to test this, before we go on in our story, I thought I’d show you a few pictures of some different trees, and see if you could spot which one was an oak tree.

So, which one is it? Is it A, B, C, or D?
PAUSE
Yes, that’s right, its B. Well done.

So, imagine that there a forest of these trees in the middle of nowhere. Well, this is where Abraham and Sarah lived. God came to them in the middle of the forest and He said to Abraham that Sarah was going to give birth to a son.
While God was telling Abraham about them having a son, Sarah was in the tent listening in to their conversation. Then, when she heard God say that she was going to have a son, she started laughing ‘Hee hee, Hee hee’ and God heard her laughing. But Sarah denied it. She was like, ‘I didn’t’. But, the reason she was laughing was because she was really old and she didn’t think that it was possible for her to have a child.
