27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Theme -The text of this passage is its central theme That theme is a PEACH from Christ that is nothing like the world In the world we may have times of peacefulness, but Christ through the Holy Spirit gives us Himself to abide in us and live through us providing peace for all time and circumstances.

INTRODUCTION

In the world we may have times of peacefulness, but Christ through the Holy Spirit gives us Himself to abode in us and live through us providing peace for all time and circustances.
1. This is a conversation sparked out of a question by the other Judas not the one who would betray Jesus. This question had to do with why show yourself to us and not the World. Jesus reply indicate first and foremost that the world could not see because the world did not keep therefore He and the Father could not make their home in the hearts of those who did not love Him. Jesus follows this up by telling them the place of the Holy Spirit in their lives. It was to teach us all things and remind us of the teachings of Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit they would have peace, not just the blessing passed from person to person but real peace that would keep them in troubled times. This is the PEACE the world does not and cannot know with out Jesus the prince of peace. From here they will move out and see a demonstration of obedience and peace as Jesus goes to the cross and dies for all a humankind.
His teaching He and the Father will come and make their home with that person.
4. The place of the Holy Spirit is to teach us all things and remind us of the teachings of Jesus.
Peace
6. Let not your heart be troubled. I am going away and coming back
I. The Question
V.22 Person - Judas
Specific - (not Judas Iscariot)
Act - said,
Contast - "BUT
Lord,
Question - why do you intend to show Yourself
to us
AND
not to the world?"
Judas seems to think there is some change in the Lord's plans that He will show Himself to them but not the world.
Response - Jesus replied,
Condition - “If anyone loves me,
Implication - he will obey my teaching.
Result - My Father will love
him, and we will come to him
AND
make our home with him.
If one keeps on loving Me, we will come . Since the Holy Spirit abides the person becomes a holy temple so a fit place for the Father and the Son to take up residence. This relationship is reflective of the place Jesus is building for us but until that time He and the Father will abide with us. As we love and conform to the teachings of Jesus He reveals Himself more and more to us and we become more loved by Him opening us tofurther revealtion. The quest is how much do you want. Are you satisfied with what you have or do you want mare.
The Holy Bible: New International Version. (1984). (). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
8. The prince of this world is coming but He has no hold on Jesus
:24 Concept - He who does not love me will not obey my
teaching.
These words you hear are not my own; they belong
to the Father who sent me.
Love is such that it requires obedience to be shown. Disobedience shows that you do not hear or believe the "word", "teachings" of the Father for Jesus is only repeating what the Father gave Him to say. It is important to note at this point that Jesus says anyone that does not obey or does obey suggesting to us that we have a choice it is not a predestine absolute.
:25 Extent - “All this
Act - I have spoken
Time - while still with you.
Jesus said all these things to them while He was still with them. This is a transitioning verse. Jesus has answered the question now they need to know where their strength will come from in the future. Jesus is going away but He has promised not to leave them "orphans" They have not understood at this point that they are going to be picking up the Masters work and message. They will need support, guidance and teaching all that they once got from Him will now come for another source like Him but not Him.
II The Holy Spirit
:26 Contrast - But
Person -the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
Act - whom the Father will send
Specific - in my name,
will teach you all things
AND
will remind you of everything I have said to you.
9. Jesus is obedient to the Father
This new personailty intoduced here is not for taking up new teaching or message. His job will be to take the things of Jesus and show them unto them and us. He comes from the Father and the Son but He does not speak of Himself but He will remind of what Jesus said, Teach what Jesus taugh and lead in the same moral, practical and spiritual way Jesus did. His job is not to speak of Himself but that the things of mine (jesus) and them unto you. We will forget He will not and as we need to remember The Spirit will bring to our minds. As we search the Word the Holy Spirit will open unto us the meaning, the revelation, the truth and the life.
:27 Act - Peace I leave with you;
my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Mandate - Do not let your hearts be troubled
AND
do not be afraid.
Peace here is the realised confidence of faith and fellowship with God-"Westcott" ; . There is repeated here the opening words of the chapter, "let not your hearts be troubled. But here they have a new force because Jesus is reinforcing it with His ever growing and strenghten peace. This peace goes beyong the blessing of salom to a spiritual peace given by Jesus to believers. He goes beyond just peace to open them and us to the power of peace over fear. Fear here is part od the devil's plan to get us to doubt puts the coward or fearful person at the head of the list that go down into the firey pit.
:28 People - “You
Act - heard me say,
Specific -‘I am going away
AND
I am coming back to you.’
Condition - If you loved me,
you would be glad
Reason - that I am going to the Father,
for the Father is greater than I.
If the disciples really loved Jesus they would have been glad the moment He announced His return to the Father. This reture tells them the mission of Jesus is complete and that He will rejoin the Father and they will operate together in even greater power throunh these disciples. The vision of the disciples and us is oten restricted to what best suits our own knowledge and circumstances. When we look to the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit we see a greater ministry and are glad as we are prepared for that ministry.
10. Now it is time to go.
:29 Declare - I have told you now before it happens,
Purpose - so that when it does happen you will believe.
There are some things the Lord could not tell them earlier because they were not ready to understand. We like them can only learn somethings as we are get to the place in grace we are ready and willing to receive them.
:30 Denial - I will not speak with you much longer
Reason - for the prince of this world is coming.
He has no hold on me,
Jesus begins to end this conversation with a reason they may not have thought of, namly that the prince of this world even Satan was coming. His moment is now and he will be granted a certain amout of power. Remember Jesus told them and us that no one takes Jesus life but He lays it down that is now about to happen. The end of the verse reasures us that is not because of sin or weakness that this was going to happen because Satan had no hold of sin, guilt or corruption on Jesus.
:31 Contrast - but
Purpose - the world must learn that I love the Father
AND
that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. Command - “Come now; let us leave.
It is persumed by some that Jesus stayed here in this room and spoke chapters 1-17 However the words seem to indicate that this conversation is over and they went out into the city and toward Gathsemeny. By taking this idea it would then say to us that Jesus is now ready to carry to obedience the love He has for the Father even unto death, the death of the cross. Jesus has lived all His life to show and tell the love of the Father. In this chapter He has expressly challenged us with obedience to the Father as a demonstration of our love. Now He goes forth one last time in obedience to the Father as a demontration of faith and Love.
