Introduction

The word proclaims God has value for life.
God has direct interest in the development of the fetus during pregnancy.
God has limitless foreknowledge and providential involvement with each individual.
Moses
Jacob
Samson
God’s care for the fetal care as well as their continued care in adult life.
“I don’t want to raise a child in this modern world we live in.”
The prophet Jeremiah was called when Israel was experiencing great trouble.
Jeremiah 1:4–10 NASB95
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” 6 Then I said, “Alas, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth.” 7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak. 8 “Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord. 9 Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10 “See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To pluck up and to break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant.”
What does the calling of Jeremiah teach about the sanctity of life?

1. Every person is “foreknown”.

God wasn’t half-hazard in His calling to Jeremiah. (16-22 years old.)
He formed each step of the process from conception to consecration.
He approved of Jeremiah before He made him.
Hebrew word for “to know” is used to describe the most intimate of relationships.
Formed - to give shape or form to.
Art is beautiful. What’s more beautiful is the mind that thought of the great work of art.
God thought of who you were supposed to be before He made you. \

2. Every person is “consecrated”.

The primary meaning is “to set apart”.
Jeremiah was set apart to become a prophet.
A special purpose and task.
Jeremiah struggled with this. He only saw himself as a youth.
When I started in ministry, I often became angry at my calling.
People struggle with placing value on themselves and other people.
The world says that there are levels of importance we should place on certain people.
Scripture calls the people of God to be set apart in valuing all forms of life.
James 1:27 NASB95
27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
We aren’t only called to value human life in the womb. We value the baby out of the womb and all for the rest of their lives.

3. Every person is “appointed”.

To assign a duty, responsibility, or obligation to someone.
Jeremiah was divinely commissioned as a prophet to the nations.
He was to have his eye upon the nations to predict their destruction or restoration.
People in the scriptures were appointed for certain tasks by God. Over time, the appointment would build passion for what they were doing.
What are you doing right now?
Do you think it’s an accident?
Where you are today is not an accident.
Who has God placed in your life that you’re passionate about?
The hungry
young mothers and fathers
children and youth
nursing home
prison
We can sanctify the lives of people around us by finding people that God has called us to serve.
