*Intro*

*            Most spectacular event*

                   (12~/17~/03) On December 17th, man's first flight in a heavier-than-air vehicle occured in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The inventors were Orville and Wilbur Wright.

In the first flight, the plane flew for 12 seconds and for a length of 120 feet.

*            *The first home electric refrigerator was put on the market.

It was called "The Domelre" and it was put on the market in Chicago for $900.

*            *(5~/21~/27) Charles Lindbergh was the first person to fly non-stop across the Atlantic, solo.

A team from Harvard Medical School successfully completed the first kidney transplant operation.

1954

 

          Apollo 11, with Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin, Jr., lifted off for the moon on July 16.

On July 20t, while on the far side of the moon, the lunar module, called "Eagle," separated from the "Columbia."

After a careful visual inspection, Eagle fired its engine and began its descent.

Despite four-alarm bells and a descent that took the lunar module to a boulder-strewn area, Armstong landed the Eagle on Tranquilty Base.

Six and a half hours after landing, Armstrong made his descent to the moon surface and made the famous statement: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

* The Ascension Shock and Awe*

          the most dramatic event began to happen.

Jesus Christ began to slowly arise from the earth, ascending ever upward toward the sky above.

The disciples were shocked and spellbound, gazing at the spectacular sight.

They were beholding one of the most dramatic and phenomenal events ever experienced

 

*Christ needed to dramatize and enforce His final departure*

But when they saw him leave them in this manner, they could not doubt that he had risen; and when they saw him ascend to heaven, they could not doubt that his work was approved, and that God would carry it onward.

This event was exceedingly important.

*It enabled the apostles to state distinctly where the Lord Jesus was*, and at once directed their affections and their thoughts away from the earth, and opened their eyes on the glory of the scheme of religion they were to establish.

*If their Saviour was in heaven, it settled the question about the nature of his kingdom.*

It was clear that it was not designed to be a temporal kingdom.

The reasons why it was proper that the Lord Jesus should ascend to heaven rather than remain on earth, were,

 

that he had finished the work which God gave him to do on the earth, John 17:24, 19:30 and it was proper that he should be received back to the glory which he had with the Father before the world was.

It was proper that he should ascend, that the Holy Spirit might come down and perform his part of the work of redemption

 

A part of the work of Christ was yet to be performed in heaven.

That was the work of intercession
