INTRO - Last week we discussed the strength of our testimony and the power of proof.
EST - Our text this morning describes the wonderful witness of the early disciples.
ESS - Our message will explore three things that they did which make their example wonderful.
OSS - As we study our text, consider how your witness might improve as we visit the way early disciples shared about Jesus.
TRANS - Let’s turn to the book of acts where again the Sanhedrin are forbidding the disciples to be a witness for the Lord.
What does it say?

The system of their witnessing.
They had a system that helped them be consistent witnesses.
They witnessed cyclically.“And
every day”
The disciples were in the habit of telling somebody about Jesus every single day.
They knew that Jesus commanded witnessing and were faithful day after day.
They were not weekend Christians.
They believed God gave them them each day and they understood that Jesus was God everyday.
They did what God commanded everyday of the week.
We should be like that.
They witnessed ceaselessly.
“did not cease”
The disciples did not toss in the towel, surrender, fall faint, or give up when it got difficult.
The were arrested and persecuted for being witnesses for Christ Jesus.
They did not complain, but rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for Jesus.
This puts most of us to shame.
Most any little thing is our excuse to not be a witness.
Bad day, bad mood, too scared, to tired, to many things to do.
These disciples were witness without complaint or excuses.
The witnessed communally.
“temple and from house to house”
They were talking about Jesus all over the place.
Out for a walk, did they talk about Jesus?
In public places we know they preached Jesus is Lord.
In the market place, the store, the school, the street, do we talk about Jesus?
When people look at us, do we talk about Jesus?
Do we change our tune, like a lizard or an octopus that changes color to “blend” into our surroundings?
Do you try to be what people want instead of what they need?
These disciples were faithful in all situations, in all places, at all times, faithful to say that everybody must believe in Jesus to be saved from the punishment of their own sin.
College evangelism classes required me to be a witness.
Part of my grade depended on sharing the Gospel and reporting back to the class what happened.
I did that for a grade.
I did that because a person said do it in order to pass this class.
I do it for Jesus, not a person, in order to be obedient to his command and so that people don’t go to hell.
In a way, not sharing Jesus like saying, “I want you to suffer in Hell for eternity.”
I know that sounds harsh, but our reality is that Jesus commands each of us to be a witness.
Unlike needing it for a grade, our witness is needed for the salvation of souls and for that we are held accountable.
The stoutheartedness of their witnessing.
“in the temple”
The disciples experienced hostility in the Temple.
The other people resisted and rejected what they were attempting to communicate.
They did not like hearing what the disciples were saying.
The did not like the message about Jesus and had them arrested many times in the Temple for telling others about Jesus.
Regardless of what people say or do to us we must not stop talking about Jesus.
This takes great courage.
We have courage in teaching what Jesus said.
Courageously these early believers told others that Jesus was their Savior.
They did not tone down when others looked down on them.
The demonstrated the sort of courage every Christian can to proclaim Christ everyday.
The demonstrated the sort of courage every Christian can to preach Christ in the most difficult public places.
The sureness of their witnessing.
“teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.”
I like that the ESV includes the definite article “the” Christ.
The original text says that Jesus is “the” Christ.
It’s missing in the KJV, the NIV, but included in the AV, NIV84, and HCSB.
I like it there because Jesus is more than the one who is Savior, who saves people from the result of our sins.
The word “Christ” refers to the Messiah.
The Jewish people rejected Jesus as their Messiah.
The disciples, however, were right in their understanding about Jesus and who he was.
They said that “Jesus is the Christ.
Anything we do as a church is pointless, worthless, and unfounded if our message is not sure.
Our message is only as good as its correctness, surety, as good as the truth that makes it so.
The disciples has sound theology; they were right and were preaching that Jesus is the Messiah.
Doctrine, theology, the truth is vital the ministry of our church.
Passion, zeal, joy is not enough, you must know what is true in order to be a good witness.
The attack on truth is everyplace in our world.
What many Christians do not realize is that unless we have sound theology, our witness is not much good.
What should I do with this teaching?
How might a system that holds you accountable make you a better witness?
One a week, for a year, at the grocery store?
The early disciples might had been afraid, still they took up the courage to face their fears and were wonderful witnesses.
How might being a witness even when afraid make Jesus happy?
The early church knew what to teach about Jesus.
What is your plan to share Jesus?
Do you have a way to share your witness?
Witnessing the easy way:
I acknowledged that I was a sinner.
I believed that Jesus is the Savior sent by God to save me from the result of my sin.
I told Jesus that I was a sinner and asked him to forgive me.
That’s my simple plan for sharing the Gospel.
I hope you have a plan and that you will make yourself put it into place this week.
