1 Thessalonians 5:17 CSB
pray constantly,
[Wait…I want to make sure y’all breathe. It’s like this…]
Why “Together?”
My faith is deeply personal…AND will never be solely private.
Psalm 95:6 CSB
Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
WHY PRAYER?
All too often PRAYER seems to serve as transitional cover for other things in a worship service.
In my last church, I had a man (John Gilbert) who was always ready to help, consistently connected with the church. One day, he asked me this question… . I can only imagine that many others, possibly some of you hear feel the same way.
Also, personally & corporately, we seem to treat prayer more like prescription medication (take only when needed and only long enough to get rid of the illness/infection)…& not enough like…breathing (that which is necessary to keep us alive each and every day).
Spurgeon: “…We may be certain that whatever God has made prominent in his Word, he intended to be conspicuous in our lives. If he has said much about prayer, it is because he knows we have much need of it. …Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint falling asleep in Jesus.” (Morning & Evening, January 2 Morning)
Today I simply want to turn us a few select Scriptures which show us the importance for us to PRAY TOGETHER.
1 Thessalonians 5.17
1 Thessalonians 5:17 CSB
pray constantly,
Constantly / Unstoppingly / Without Ceasing / Continually
Colossians 4:2 CSB
Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:12 CSB
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. He is always wrestling for you in his prayers, so that you can stand mature and fully assured in everything God wills.
Col 4.12
Romans 12:12 CSB
Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
Ephesians 6:18 CSB
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Matthew 6:1–13 CSB
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward with your Father in heaven. So whenever you give to the poor, don’t sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward. But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward. But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you pray, don’t babble like the Gentiles, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him. “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Our Lord said much about it! [Including that HE inspired the entire Bible!]
As Spurgeon said...
Genesis 4:26 CSB
A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord.
Genesis 4.
Revelation 22:17–21 CSB
Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely. I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, which are written about in this book. He who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone. Amen.
Revelation 22.
Jesus’ specific instruction…we will delve into more at a later time.
1 Timothy 2:1–2 CSB
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2.1-2
We are ALL ABLE!
1 Corinthians 11:5 CSB
Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since that is one and the same as having her head shaved.
Romans 13:1 CSB
Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God.
Ephesians 4:4–6 CSB
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope at your calling—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.
THE LORD’S SUPPER:
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 CSB
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
1 cor 11.
1 Corinthians 11:22–26 CSB
Don’t you have homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you in this matter!
