Introduction: Two Faced

The month of January is named after the mythical Roman god Janus, who was pictured as a man with two faces, one looking backward and the other forward. New Year’s Day provides a valuable time to ponder the past while anticipating the future.

Transition: Our looking backward at 2018 while looking forward to 2019

Some of you today as you look back and reflect on 2018, you are looking forward to the this year ending within the next few days.  The year of 2018 has not been a Crystal Stair for you.  Yet as you look forward towards the dawn of 2019, you do not see a lot of reasons to be hopeful.  You see yourself carrying a lot of old excess baggage into 2019.  You have a lot of unresolved issues still sitting on the plate for 2018.  For many of you, 2019 will be business as usual like EPMD’s third album in December of 1990.  In 2019 you are going to keep doing what you have always been doing because you cannot see things any more differently or getting better for you and your situation. Your vision is blurry. You are not sure if you have a WORD from the LORD for 2019.
But says:
Proverbs 29:18 ESV
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
It is within the book of Isaiah, that a prophetic vision from the LORD is revealed to the people of God known as Israel- the nation whom the LORD God has contended- had to fight with.
By the time we arrive at Isaiah chapter 43, the LORD God is attempting to re-orient His people’s vision of the future...
And I believe it is fitting for us at this time of the year to re-visit our vision for our lives versus the LORD God’s Holy vision for His people

You have sinned
Romans 3:23–26 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
