John is writing in retrospect by distinguishing an act that will take place later in his writings but had already been spoken of the other Gospels Matt & Luke.
Waiting of the Lord
Mary, Martha and Lazarus are all loved by Jesus (Family) He doesn’t love one person in the Christian family more less that someone else
o Mary, Martha and Lazarus are all loved by Jesus (Family) He doesn’t love one person in the Christian family more less that someone else
The Family and a community are waiting to see if Jesus will show up to heal or deliver a person form their sickness
What happens to us when God doesn’t respond in the method/timing that we desire.
Because God makes us wait or doesn’t answer us immediately during our times of difficulty or need has no bearing on whether he loves us or not.
When we don’t hear from God or see God respond we shouldn’t think that God doesn’t love us, or he is mad at us, or punishing us for something we have done wrong. While it possible that we could be facing judgement for thoughts and behaviors that we have refused to repent from, for believers there is never a case where God is allowing anything to happen to us because he doesn’t love us.
In fact, the Bible says in that nothing in all of Heaven or Earth could ever separate us from the Love of God. In addition, the book of Hebrews tells us that those whom the Lord Loves he disciplines or chastens, so even if its is corrective action being implemented by God, it is always done in Love, with the purpose of bringing us closer to him.
Being Patient while we wait for God to bring to pass his perfect will in our lives can be agonizing but it often reveals where we are in our trust towards him.
The Purposes of God versus the Purposes of Man
o There are things that take place in our lives that appear negative from the vantage point of man, but these events are not designed to be the end of us, they are destined by God, to bring Glory to his name.
o We must be careful to rush into things trying to out maneuver God and stop difficult seasons from happening.
o You can plan, pray, study, and live sanctified, but God will allow troublesome situations and circumstances in your life.
o God is not interested in rescuing us just so that you don’t have to deal with difficulty
§ talks about how tribulation produces patience and patience character, and Character growth brings an unashamed walk of faith in Christ.
§ talks about those who were not physically delivered from the persecutions as those who truly displayed a walk of faith
· Walking in the Light vs Walking in Darkness while waiting on the Lord to Manifest his Glory in us and through us for his name’s sake
o Darkness = fear, anger, judgment, jealously etc. It is walking in the works of the flesh, displaying a lack of dependence on God due to circumstances
o Walking in the Light
§ Walk by Faith and not by Sight
§ Fruity of the Spirit
· Bring us to an end of our selves, where our trust is without boarders
o God is trying to strengthen our belief in him
