6. CHARACTERISTICS OF A DREAMER part 1

6 characteristics of a dreamer
AS WE LEARNED LAST WEEK, A DREAMER IS ONE WHO RESTS IN GOD
THESE ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT OVERCOME:
THESE ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT OVERCOME
1. FEAR, 2. DISCOURAGEMENT, 3. WORRY AND 4. MURMURING
NEXT: 1. FAITH TRUST/BELIEVE

1. FAITH TRUST/BELIEVE

Why Do We Need to Believe?

WHY DO WE NEED TO BELIEVE?

WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT FAITH?
WHY DO I NEED TO BELIEVE G0D…
CAN’T I JUST GO ABOUT MY BUSINESS?
Why Do We Need to Believe?
BELIEVE, OR FAITH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WORD IN THE BIBLE
NEXT: WITHOUT FAITH WE CANNOT PLEASE GOD

1. WITHOUT FAITH WE CANNOT PLEASE GOD

NEXT: Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Hebrews 11:6 NLT
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
3. FAITH OVERCOMES THE WORLD
The children of Israel were unable to enter the promised land because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:12–19 NIV - Anglicised
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
He could not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith
Mark 6:1–6 NIV - Anglicised
Jesus left there and went to his home town, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offence at him. Jesus said to them, “Only in his home town, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honour.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went round teaching from village to village.
MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ENTER THE PLACE OF REST – (FAITH)
Hebrews 4:1–11 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “And on the seventh day God rested from all his work.”And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.” It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience. Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no-one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
VS 3 SO I DECLARED, BOTH IN MY ANGER, ‘THEY SHALL NEVER ENTER MY REST.’”
OUR UNBELIEF IS THE GREATEST PAIN OF GOD’S HEART
NEXT: 1. BECAUSE, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR HIM WHO BELIEVES

2. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR HIM WHO BELIEVES

NEXT: Everything is possible for him who believes
Mark 9:23 NLT
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
IF ANYONE SAYS TO THIS MOUNTAIN – AND DOES NOT DOUBT
Mark 11:23 NIV - Anglicised
“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
NEXT: WITHOUT FAITH WE CANNOT PLEASE GOD
IF YOU HAVE FAITH AS SMALL AS A MUSTARD SEED

2.WITHOUT FAITH WE CANNOT PLEASE GOD

Matthew 17:19–20 NIV - Anglicised
Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
JONATHAN AND HIS AMOR BEARER
DAVID AND GOLIATH
WOMAN WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD
Matthew 9:18–22 NIV - Anglicised
While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
YOUR FAITH HAS HEALED YOU
NEXT: Without faith it is impossible to please God.
NEXT: 3. FAITH OVERCOMES THE WORLD
Hebrews 11:6 NLT
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

NEXT: 4. FAITH ACCESSES GOD’S POWER TO BRING ANSWERS TO PRAYER

4. FAITH ACCESSES GOD’S POWER TO BRING ANSWERS TO PRAYER

WHATEVER YOU ASK FOR IN PRAYER, BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED IT, AND IT WILL BE YOURS
Mark 11:23–24 NIV - Anglicised
“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
BUT WHEN HE ASKS, HE MUST BELIEVE AND NOT DOUBT
James 1:6–8 NIV - Anglicised
But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
NEXT: HOW DO I GET FAITH?

HOW DO I GET FAITH?

Without faith it is impossible to please God.
1. EVERY MAN HAS BEEN GIVEN A MEASURE OF FAITH

1. EVERY MAN HAS BEEN GIVEN A MEASURE OF FAITH

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
GOD HAS PUT THE KNOWING OF HIS REALITY INSIDE OF EVERY PERSON
THEREFORE ONLY A FOOL CAN SAY IN HIS HEART THAT THERE IS NO GOD.
Psalm 14:1 NIV - Anglicised

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
