Intro

Space: The final frontier...
What must space travel be like for the Astronauts that go there? What change or effect does it have on them I wonder?
Their experiences
Jerry Linenger = 143 Days in Space
But it’s when you have that reflective moment, when you just float over the top of a window. In my five months on the Russian Space Station, I had some opportunities where, for 90 minutes, I would just levitate over a window, and I’d see the sun rise, the sun set, the stars come out, and I’d just sort of block the world out. I blocked out science, to some degree. I said: I’m not going to identify the Big Dipper. There’s so much stuff out there; it’s a feeble effort by man to try and put labels on all this stuff.
You just have this incredible view of the universe, of Earth, and a little reflection of yourself as a human being
Their sacrifices
Venturing into the environment of space can have negative effects on the human body. Significant adverse effects of long-term weightlessness include muscle atrophy and deterioration of the skeleton (spaceflight osteopenia). Other significant effects include a slowing of cardiovascular system functions, decreased production of red blood cells, balance disorders, eyesight disorders and a weakening of the immune system. Additional symptoms include fluid redistribution (causing the "moon-face" appearance typical in pictures of astronauts experiencing weightlessness), loss of body mass, nasal congestion, sleep disturbance, and excess flatulence.
Their training beforehand
This concept — that bone adapts to pressure, or a lack of it — is known as Wolff’s law. It’s the reason astronauts return with reduced bone density after floating in microgravity. And conversely, it explains why studies show that tennis players and fencers develop greater bone mass in their dominant arms and legs.
Would they say it is worth it?

Message

Romans 8:17 ESV
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Rom 8:17
Children of God will be glorified with Christ if we suffer with Him

Romans 8:18–21 ESV
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
The Freedom and Glory of the Child of God
All of us will experience suffering in this life
Our suffering does not make sense when we misunderstand eternity
Revealed Glory
Christ’s Glory / Your Glory
The earth is waiting for us!! Not the opposite
God subjected the world in HOPE
HOPE = freedom / glorification
Do you see how this makes Jesus the center of everything?
When you are faced with suffering will you remember this verse?

Romans 8:22–25 ESV
22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
John Piper = “great corrective to the prosperity ‘gospel’ this is the great NOT YET
Rom
The Redemption of Our Bodies
Groaning with Pain [ Whole Creation ]
death pains / birth pains
also us… Christians…
Christian Tension = Already / Not Yet...
firstfruits… harvest started!!
groan inwardly / wait eagerly!!!
elderly / infirm / sick = groaning… / Waiting…
HOPE = Unseen…
the world we see does not confirm our hope = subjected
Paul’s plea for patience
What are you currently asking God to do for you? Will you remain if He does not do it?
Have you commited to the patient waiting on God?
Will you ask God to grant you this fruit of the Spirit in your life?
Romans 2:7 ESV
7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
Rom 2.7
Romans 8:17 ESV
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Already / Not Yet…

Romans 8:26–27 ESV
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
The Spirits Help in Our Weakness
In Prayer
We do not know what to pray for…?
deliverance / healing / patience / forbearance
intercession = groanings
The Spirit works these in us
The Spirit - does not groan - does know what to pray
God searches our hearts
He knows the mind of the Spirit
Spirit stirs our hearts to groan - v23
Remember
Romans 8:15–16 ESV
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Trinitarian action of prayer!!
What does it mean to pray in the Spirit?
What are these groanings to deep for words?
What does the Spirit pray for then? [ v27-28 ] = Your Good!!!
Trinitarian action of prayer!!
God - Father = hears / listens
God - Spirit = method / prayer of the spirit
God - Son = means / through finished work of Christ
Will you meditate on this truth and allow it to enrich and deepen your prayer life?
How might knowing this help you to pray more often?

Romans 8:28–30 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
V28

Ephesians 1:11–12 ESV
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
Do you think this way of your sufferings?
Romans 5:3–5 ESV
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Do you LOVE God? How much do you love Him?
Those Who Love Him
Promise only for Christians!!
Promised to ALL christians
1 Corinthians 2:9–10 ESV
9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— 10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
christian test...
1 Corinthians 8:3 ESV
3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

All Things Work Together = Good

Romans 8:18 ESV

The Book of Job Recap
Job 42:1–6 ESV
1 Then Job answered the Lord and said: 2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. 4 ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ 5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6 therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
