Faithfulness. We want to take you on a spiritual journey and hopefully by the end of the year you will be able to look back and say look what the Lord has done....
We are spirit beings that have a body.
Aim at heaven and you get heaven and you get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.
This year can be the best year of your life if it’s the best year of your life spiritually.
Today we are starting 14 days of prayer… some of you are fasting in some way. While we are doing this time of prayer, we also need to include being in GW.
John 1:1–5 NLT
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
God says he is the Word. IOW the bible is the WOG and if you want to get to know God better, you have to get into the Bible. If you want to be faithful this year, you have to get into the WOG.
Jesus came to earth…
John 1:14 NLT
14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
Desire for you - Love the Word, Learn the Word. Live the Word.
John 6:63 NIV84
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

The Bible is Alive

Hebrews 4:12 NLT
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Challenge - you to be as excited about this as I am.
Too many people think the Bible is hard to understand.

Faith activates the Word

Hebrews 4:2 NIV84
2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.

Revelation activates Faith

Ah - ha
Two words for Word in greek

Logos - Written or spoken word

Rhema - Revealed Word

Luke 1:34–38 NIV
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
When she questioned it, it was Logos. Vs. 38 it became Rhema

Meditation activates revelation.

Joshua 1:7–8 NIV
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
meditate - ruminate… chewing it’s cud
To get the prosperous and successful we have to build our lives on GW

Building your life on God’s Word

Matthew 7:24 The Message
24 “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock.
Storms are coming, but if you build your house on the foundation on the WOG, your life will stand.

1. I must accept its authority.

It begins with your attitude. Is your attitude that this is a good book, or do you accept it as GW.
You may not understand… I don’t understand digestion, but I still eat.
Culture changes but God doesn’t. GW stands supreme
1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV
13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
As soon as you accept it, power is loosed in you and it will work in your life.

2. I must assimilate its truths.

How do we do this?

By listening to God’s Word.

It’s important to plan to listen to the WOG. It blows my mind how many people don’t prioritize church. Jesus went to the synagogue ever week.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Don’t miss. You need more faith? Be in church and hear the WOG.
Luke 8:18 NIV
18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”
I am not missing church because I want faith in my life.

By reading God’s Word.

Matthew 4:4 NLT
4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
WOG is food for the spirit.
I use technology, but a paper bible you can mark it up.
Get a Paper Bible
Studies show we remember paper reading better.
Set Aside a time to read the Bible
Set a time to read and read it.
Have a plan
Challenge you to read OYB together this year. 3-4 chapters per day.
You Version
If you get behind, just skip to today’s reading.
Don’t just read the Bible, let the Bible read you
The bible is like a mirror. God will often speak to you.

By exploring God’s Word

It’s good to be in a group. It gives you a chance to discuss the word.
Psalm 119:11 NIV
11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
If you read it, listen to it and explore it, this verse will work.

3. I must apply its principles.

James 1:22 NLT
22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
