4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.
psalm
Psalm 27:5 NKJV
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
Priorities!!! Priorities!!! Priorities!!!
Have alot of Desire but lack in the devotion.
You make time for what’s important, You sacrafice for the essentials.
Enter new year, i want to put a thought into your mind about the priority of worship… (not talking about attendance) A desire to worship, a deeper devotion and passion for God
Psalm 27:4 NKJV
4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.

What is Worship?

The Act of attributing worth, praise, adoration to God for who He is & What He has done.
Psalm 29:1–2 CSB
1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
It’s more than a song...
It’s more than a service...
It truly is a lifestyle
Worship is not merely something we do, it’s who we are. We ARE WORSHIPERS.
Story of family late for church, we are just missing the worship...
Stayed up late & offered to God there duty of being at church. (difference bettween duty and devotion)
As we peak into the heart of David, we can see why he was a man after God’s own heart.
He was a King & A Warrior but Also a Poet & Song Writer… Tough yet Tender
In His Psalms we can see a full range of emotion… Fear, anxiety, anger, Joy, Desperation
He was Intensely Personal… (WORSHIP WAS’NT MERELY A FORMAL RELIGOUS DUTY, IT WAS PRIVATE)
Worship extends past the corporate setting… Imagine a church full of Private worshipers coming together
He Valued, He treasured his relationship with His Creator
He was also deeply passionate… (He did’nt have to find motivation, juggle his schedule to find time to worship. He was Hungry for God.
Psalm 51
Psalm 51:11 NKJV
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Psalm 62:1 NKJV
1 Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation.
Many of His Psalms are addressed directly to God, ALMOST AS IF WE ARE PEEKING INTO SOMEONES PRAYER JOURNAL
Psalm 62:5 NKJV
5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.
Psalm 61:1–3 NKJV
1 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.
He was also deeply passionate… (He did’nt have to find motivation, juggle his schedule to find time to worship. He was Hungry for God.
Psalm 143:6 NKJV
6 I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah
Psalm 86:12 NKJV
12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
He also was very bold… Dancing, Uplifted hands, clapping,
He didn't hold anything back!!! He would get lost in the Presence of God

Why Make Worship A Priority?

1. We were Created to Worship

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

2. We were Commanded to Worship

Commanded to Worship
Psalm 22:23 NKJV
23 You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!
Psalm
Psalm 150:6 NKJV
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
3. Called to Worship

3. We are Compelled to Worship

Romans 12:1 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Worship is my response to the revelation of God’s love for me...
Psalm 44:8 NKJV
8 In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah
Psalm 44 NKJV
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation Of the Sons of Korah. 1 We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, The deeds You did in their days, In days of old: 2 You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. 3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them. 4 You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob. 5 Through You we will push down our enemies; Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me. 7 But You have saved us from our enemies, And have put to shame those who hated us. 8 In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah 9 But You have cast us off and put us to shame, And You do not go out with our armies. 10 You make us turn back from the enemy, And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves. 11 You have given us up like sheep intended for food, And have scattered us among the nations. 12 You sell Your people for next to nothing, And are not enriched by selling them. 13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scorn and a derision to those all around us. 14 You make us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. 15 My dishonor is continually before me, And the shame of my face has covered me, 16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the enemy and the avenger. 17 All this has come upon us; But we have not forgotten You, Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant. 18 Our heart has not turned back, Nor have our steps departed from Your way; 19 But You have severely broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. 20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god, 21 Would not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart. 22 Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 23 Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord? Arise! Do not cast us off forever. 24 Why do You hide Your face, And forget our affliction and our oppression? 25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; Our body clings to the ground. 26 Arise for our help, And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.
Worship is more than a song, it is a life devoted to God
Isaiah 29:13 NKJV
13 Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

What Happens when worship becomes a priority?

1. I have an increased awareness of Gods presence.

Psalm 139:7–12 NKJV
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
Have you ever desired to be more sensitive to God at work in your life? Worship is what tunes us in to work.
Have you ever desired to conquer anxiety, fear, ___________ a knowledge of God’s presence is the key to victory.
Psalm 16:8 NKJV
8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Awareness of God brings Confidence In Life

2. I have an increased delight in Gods Character.

The more i experience God, the more of God i want.
Awareness Brings Delight… in God not me.
Noticed we can tend to be selfish people, even in our approach to God.
Worship isn't about fuzzy feelings and emotional experience, in fact it’s not about us at all. Remember its ascribing worth, praise, glory and honor to Him.
Awareness Brings Delight
Psalm 36:5–7 NKJV
5 Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. 7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
Pslam 36.5-7
Worship brings awareness, Awareness brings expereince, and Experinece brings Change.

3. I have an increased desire to be changed.

You cannot truly worship God and remain the same.
Isaiah saw God high and lifted up &...
Look at some of David’s psalms...
psalm 139.
Psalm 139:23–24 NKJV
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 26:2–3 NKJV
2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. 3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth.
Psalm 143:10 NKJV
10 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.
This is the Goal… Should be the desire for all believers!!!
but how often do we tend to go at it alone...
Desire is one thing, Devotion is another, but you are going to need something to energize that devotion. That something is God himself, the revelation of who he is and joy of knowing that he has chosen you and me to experience his goodness and represent him to a lost and dying world.
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Bring this to a close...
What are your priorities headed into the new year?
Isaiah 29:13 NKJV
13 Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
Western Culture has gotten really good at “doing” church...
How has my view of worship been insufficient and what am i going to do about it?
Salvation - Sermon on worship lead to a point of salvation? We worship him for what he has done.
Psalm 34:8 NKJV
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Who you were & Who He is, What He has done.
Psalm 34:8 NKJV
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Vicious circle
Increased Awareness, Increased Delight, Increased Desire
Psalm 34:8 NKJV
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
