TITLE: “Seven New Years Resolutions That Could Change The Future”
Revelation 1:9–11 NLT
9 I, John, am your brother and your partner in suffering and in God’s Kingdom and in the patient endurance to which Jesus calls us. I was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and for my testimony about Jesus. 10 It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. 11 It said, “Write in a book everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
Revelation 2:4; Revelation 2:10; Revelation 2:14-15; Revelation 2:20; Revelation 3:1–2; Revelation 3:8; Revelation 3:15-18
INTRODUCTION:

I. I WILL MAKE MY LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST TOP PRIORITY IN THE COMING YEAR (Revelation 2:4).

Revelation 2:4 NLT
4 “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!

ὅτι τὴν ἀγάπην σου τὴν πρώτην ἀφῆκες.

“You have abandoned the love you had [for me] at the first...”
A. By making my daily time alone with him a priority.
1- The first step to rekindling the “first love” romance is spending time with the loved-one.
2- The second step is recognizing again the characteristics of the loved-one that produced the attraction.
ILLUSTRATION:
B. By making pleasing him with my thoughts, words and actions a priority.
1- Restoration of “first love” romance entails a refocus of priorities on pleasing the loved-one.

II. I WILL SEEK TO BE FAITHFUL TO CHRIST IN ALL AREAS OF MY LIFE IN THE COMING YEAR (Revelation 2:10).

Revelation 2:10 NLT
10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.
A. I will seek to be faithful in my family life.
B. I will be faithful in my social life.
C. I will be faithful in my professional life.
D. I will be faithful in my personal life.

III. I WILL REFUSE TO COMPROMISE BIBLICAL STANDARDS OF LIVING TO FIT IN WITH THE WORLD IN THE COMING YEAR (Revelation 2:14-15).

Revelation 2:14–15 NLT
14 “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. 15 In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching.
A. I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal integrity.
B. I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal purity.
C. I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal stewardship.

IV. I WILL REJECT THOSE WHO SEEK TO MISLEAD GOD’S PEOPLE DOWN THE PATHWAY THAT LEADS TO REBELLION (Revelation 2:20).

Revelation 2:20 NLT
20 “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.
A. Rebellion against God’s Word.
B. Rebellion against God’s Direction.

V. I WILL CHOOSE TO FOLLOW THE WAY OF LIFE AND VITALITY INSTEAD OF ALLOWING SPIRITUAL DEATH TO SET IN (Revelation 3:1-2).

Revelation 3:1–2 NLT
1 “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars: “I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.
A. By actively seeking the presence of God in private worship.
B. By actively seeking the presence of God in public worship.
C. By actively seeking the presence of God in practical service.

VI. I WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPEN DOORS OF MINISTRY AND SERVICE THE LORD GIVES TO ME IN THE COMING YEAR (Revelation 3:8).

Revelation 3:8 NLT
8 “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.
A. Recognizing that Jesus is the one who opens doors of service.
B. Responding to the open door of service with enthusiasm.

VII. I WILL REJECT LUKEWARM, INDIFFERENT, AND SELF-SATISFIED ATTITUDES IN MY SERVICE TO MY LORD (Revelation 3:15-18).

Revelation 3:15–18 NLT
15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! 16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! 17 You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. 18 So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.
A. Recognizing that lukewarmness is the enemy of the commission Christ has given us.
B. Remembering that lukewarmness will bring about the failure of all of the resolutions we make for serving Christ.
