Come Unto Me...

Matthew 11:25–30 KJV 1900
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Intro:
The Lord Jesus is correcting the pharisee’s in the previous verses…AGAIN...
This correction is over all the burdensome weight they are placing on people to develop a relationship with God...
The problem is, that religion is not the answer for relationship...
Religion - that is undefiled is:
James 1:27 KJV 1900
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Visit the fatherless and widow’s in their affliction
Keep yourself unspotted - holiness
It is not about all of the burdens that - the weights that rules and regulations put on you...
So many miss this aspect of the christian life - they get confused when they look at the expectations God places upon us and the grace that he offers to us...
Romans 6:1–8 KJV 1900
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV 1900
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
so this Christian life is not one that there are no obligations - There are obligations and responsibilities that we have toward the Savior - but it is not to EARN OR MERIT HIS LOVE -
That is what the Pharisee’s were doing - it was all about the doing - not about the relationship
Matthew 23:4 KJV 1900
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
But the Lord’s expectations of holiness and service are to be done out of a thankful heart for what HE has done for us....
1 John 5:3 KJV 1900
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
So tonight - we are going to look at the phrase - vs 28 is our text...

Come Unto Me...

Matthew 11:28–29 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
In our text, I want us to see some key words -
we could look at them all 1 by 1 - but we will not be able to finish them - stewardship month get’s started this next week - and we will spend the month of January looking at stewardship....

1. Come

Right person - to Christ
Relationhsip not Religion
Right people -
Open invitation - the invitation is always open.... PTL
Religious - religious but lost
Matthew 11:28 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
mt11.2
great weight has been placed upon them - and there is nothing gained by it...
rules / regulations / no relationship
Regenerate - the saved
If you are saved tonight - don’t get sidetracked by the activity of Christianity and miss CHRIST....
The greatest part of salvation is not what we are missing - Hell … the greatest part of salvation is who we gained… God… God the Father - God the Son - God the Holy Ghost...

2. Take

Matthew 11:29 KJV 1900
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Yoke - burden sharing instrument
My Yoke.... CHRIST’S YOKE...
Not our yoke...

3. Learn

Matthew 11:29 KJV 1900
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Learn of me...
I am:
meek
lowly in heart
I am not:
a hard task master
unloving
uncaring
selfish
when we learn of Him - all that he asks is desirable to do...
1 Kings 10:7–8 KJV 1900
7 Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard. 8 Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.

4. Find

Matthew 11:29–30 KJV 1900
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Ye shall find....Rest -
Service-
When we are in the right yoke -
Selfish
a
Spiritual service for the Savior…
Our Soul -will find REST...
Soul- inner self -
satisfying
But when the activity is all duty based… we get burned out - we don’t find rest in our service -
Why? our....
Service- becomes...
Selfish
If His YOKE IS EASY....
IF His BURDEN is LIGHT...
Why do people burn out???
It comes back to:
“Come unto me...”
They fail to come to Christ -
They come to:
Church
Christianity
Programs / policies / procedures
Rules / regulations...
But they don’t COME UNTO ME…
The Lord calls for a relationship that will result in REST...
Rest
Renewal
Refreshment
