The Invasion (The Great Reveal)

Turn in your Bibles to John Chapter 1
John 1:1–11 NLT
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. 6 God sent a man, John the Baptist, 7 to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8 John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. 9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. 11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. 15 John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’ ” 16 From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Absolute and Total Perfection found wanting

I want you to imagine with me our All-Powerful Creator enthroned in Heaven in power and glory. We are told in Scripture (by John interestingly enough) that peals of thunder, lightening, and a brightness brighter than the sun emanates from Him. He is surrounded by brilliant rainbows, countless angels, and marvelous, beautiful, and mysterious heavenly creatures.

GOD's desire to live with His people is preeminent. He's ultimate determination that His children should have access to Him is supreme. GOD would do, and will do, anything - to the ultimate extreme - so that His children could live with Him, dwell with Him.From the beginning he was saying not just "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them," but "Let my little children come to me."

Wanting More to Love

And then, in some strange and unfathomable way, a thought flashes through the mind of GOD, and He becomes dissatisfied.
Simply put, He wants more.
And He is not dissatisfied with any lack of perfection and praise. He does not need anything. But He craves one thing. To love more. GOD's infinite heart wants to pour out His love to more than infinite angels.
In short, He wants you... and He wants me... He wants us.
And, somehow, He will not be satisfied until He creates us so He can love us with an infinite and eternal love.
He will not be content until He creates a perfect place for us, and lives with us, and us with Him. He will not be satisfied until we are with Him. When GOD uttered the words of "Let there be light!" He was declaring to Heaven that he wanted you, me, and the rest of humanity.

How is it that He desired children, the sons and daughters of man, the offspring of woman?
GOD deigned to become Abba-Father and be with, dwell with, His children. You, me, us...
(Mother Theresa has come to realize that the fleas - no, the amoebas on the fleas - on the destitute she serves have a greater need than humans. She has now dedicated her life to serve them. And through the marvels of science she has decided to be made into a flea to better serve them.) And that my friends is what this is all about.
That’s why there is a universe in the first place. That’s why you and I are here.
God dwelling with his people is what the universe and existence itself, and the Bible, Scripture, is all about.
It's what human history is all about
It is what life is about
It is what you and I are about.
Why did GOD bang the big bang? For you! For me! For His children.
And today we see the culmination of all of GOD’s planning throughout eternity. We read of the “Great Invasion.”
John 1:1–11 NLT

12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. 14 So the Word became human and made his home among us.
In our passage we are told when what and why:
When? 2000 years ago
What? GOD became human
Why? Some say, to reveal GOD to humanity. And that is true- absolutely true. Jesus did come to show us the heart and character of GOD.
But He also did for a reason.

GOD’s Ultimate Desire

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

John 1:12–13 NLT

“In the same way a bird returns to its nest often, and a traveler hurries to return home, the mind continually pursues the object of its focus. We cannot look too often upon that face which we love; we desire always to have our precious ones in our sight. It is the same with our Lord Jesus.

GOD's desire was to make children of men, children of GOD.
There you have it guys! All this great and cosmic universe, the world and human history boils down to this: GOD made all this because He wanted kids. And He wanted to love them, and for them to love Him back. That’s it!
Hey, I’m not twisting scripture! We see it, GOD gave us “the right to become children of GOD.”
We are reborn by “a birth that comes from GOD.”
Jesus came to dwell among us so that He could to live with His children then, and we could live with Him now.
GOD’s ultimate determination that His children should have access to Him is supreme. GOD would do, and will do, anything - to the ultimate extreme - so that His children could live with Him, dwell with Him, be with Him.
From the beginning GOD was saying "Let MY little children come to me and do not hinder them."
Spurgeon

And when we take just a moment to think about it, that was our condition. Sin - ours, mine, yours: lies, jealousy, greed, lust. Gossip, slander, hate, unforgiveness. The sin of humnity causing a great and terrible cosmic divorce between us and our Beloved. But GOD would not let that stand. (NLT) 18 Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. GOD annulled our divorce by invading earth, becoming a man, living a sinless life, and reconciling fallen humanity through the ultimate sacrifice - receiving the full wrath of GOD on His broken and bloodied Son.

To us here today, even in our current condition, there is some awesome news. Spiritually speaking we don't have to wait to experience a form of GOD's presence now. Is it the ultimate experience of being in Heaven with GOD? No. But God's spiritual presence is available to us today by His Holy Spirit.
