Frank Knox December 4th 1941 Secretary of the Navy whatever happens the u.s. Navy is not going to get caught napping.

I look at these predictions and I wonder. about the prediction of Christ

I wonder what people were saying before he arrived. What will the Messiah be like, what will he do? When will it come?

I wonder it would have been nice if George II to her the New York Times or the secretary of the Navy would have an angel appeared to them and say this is what's going to happen. This is how it is.

And then they wouldn't make those foolish predictions.

I think there's a lot of people making a lot of foolish predictions about Christ.

People that really don't understand what it was like when he arrived this morning. I would like to look at that what it was like when Christ arrived and we're going to look at Luke Chapter 2 just verses 10 through 11.

This is what the angel said to the Shepherds. Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people today in the town of David a savior has been born to you. He is Christ the lord.

So what was it like? What was it really like when he arrived? in your bulletins

we have some blanks and as I look carefully at this just this one statement.

There's a lot going on here than what first meets the eye.

You see what it was like it was like having Moses. Come again.

I look at this passage. Do not be afraid. I bring you good news.

Moses was the Great lawgiver. God spoke to Moses as one would speak to a friend face-to-face Moses had dialogue without a lot of other people they would have visions. They would have dreams but Moses spoke to God face to face. Moses was the one who wrote the first five books of the Bible.

Moses is known as the lawgiver. He reveals the expectations that God had in mind for man. What is acceptable to God and what is an acceptable? God's mind was finally revealed. through Moses

Jesus also came to reveal the mind of God.

In Matthew chapter 4 verse 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee teaching in their synagogues preaching the Good News. Of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Jesus was free. I would have loved to hurt a sermon to his. Oh wait. I have Sermon on the Mount I love The Sermon on the Mount because The Sermon on the Mount does something it is considered. If you go to to Seminary just about anywhere and you go into preaching class of The Sermon on the Mount is considered perhaps the greatest sermon ever given. Most revealing most encouraging most informational and most inspiring sermon ever given that we know of.

And I look at this sermon and really there are preachers that have used this sermon alone for an entire year of sermon series. I'm not doing that.

But the sermon of the mount Jesus explains the Ten Commandments.

He explains that it's more than just action. It's we we love God with more than just what we do. We love him with our hearts and with our thoughts.

We're not breaking the law the command that says do not murder. I just murdered somebody we break it when we are hateful.

We're could not not breaking the command of adultery by sleeping with somebody. We're breaking that command by just lusting after somebody that's not our spouse. It's not enough just to behave right we've got to have the right heart and Jesus explains that. Beatitudes that we should have the heart that we should have I love that. Not just about thought and when Jesus spoke and Matthew 7:29 it said for he was teaching them as one who had Authority not as their scribes. He was actually teaching with authority. They knew who he was talking about. He was revealing God's mind to I think he did that in a way that no one else could.

So when he arrived it was like Moses coming.

number two when Jesus arrived it was like having David come and no Luke back to his what the angel said. They said for today in the town of David.

I believe that this was written so that we think about David.

Remember David when he arrived.

The Philistines had challenged Israel and 1st Samuel 17 11 on hearing the Philistines word saw and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified even King Saul. And remember David was a young boy and he is there to visit to check up on his brothers who were in the army.

But more importantly than a young boy David was courageous.

inverse 26 of Samuel 1st Samuel 17 David ask the men standing near him. Who is this uncircumcised Philistines that he should defy the armies of the Living God? Hello, my love that I love David he had some of the best lines.

He had some of the best things to say. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine? How dared is this guy challenge the armies of the Living God.

And David said that said this to his own people and they everybody else around as if how dare you be afraid of this guy to his own Army.

So David went out and challenge that giant. In verse 43 through 46 and the giant said the David am I a dog that you come at me with sticks and the Philistines cursed David by his Gods come here. He said and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the Beast of the field.

David said to the Philistine you come against me with sword and Spear and Javelin I come and get you in the name of the Lord Almighty the god of the armies of Israel whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine armies. To the birds of the air and the Beast of the earth and the whole world will know that there is a God and Israel.

And that day the whole world learned that there is a God in Israel because Little David defeated that great Giant and he fell and David did cut off his head and the Philistine Army. was defeated

David later became king. And he ruled Israel. And it is said by Israel even today the David is the greatest King ever in the land of Israel. If you were to go to Israel today on the southside of of Mount Moriah on the site just outside the wall. There is a huge building on a top of a hill. That is David's tomb. And if you were to to be a dignitary and you were to honor Israel. What you would do is you would bring gold or silver, especially a chandelier. And you would bring that and give that to be put in David's tomb. You see if you were to go there today. There's a rod iron fence there that you can see part of the tune, but they won't let you in because there's all kinds of gold and silver. It is lavish gold and silver everywhere David's too and if you want to honor Israel, you honor David the greatest King.

I think he's the greatest King next to Jesus.

the Roman Empire

you say they challenged Israel and the people were afraid of Rome just like they were afraid of a giant. And they became we can just hardened no longer standing up for God no longer standing for what was right.

The Jews were being abused their being thrown into prison.

Many of them were put to death on the cross.

Jesus came with the same message that David had for the Giant.

What is this that you should fear for your life?

Don't you know that there's a God in heaven?

Proverbs 28:1 the wicked flee when no one pursues but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

I believe God doesn't want us to flee.

I believe God wants us to be bold as a lion.

Not to be scared of every little thing what might happen What could happen?

But it never happens.

the Lord God

is with those who are faithful.

What do they have to be afraid of?

We can trust Jesus is our King.

He is that leader.

He's already current Colonel King and worthy of our trust.

when Jesus arrived

he was like having David show up.

finally number 3 when Jesus arrived it was also like having Noah show up.

But the angel said to them do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy, which will be for all the people for date today and the town of David. a savior

has been born to you. He is Christ the lord. We all know the story. God had regretted that he made man because managed just ultimately rebelled against God and God chose to destroy the Earth.

But Noah found favor with God and so God save Noah.

Any told know why you said Noah flood is coming and I need you to build an ark.

And the reason I need you to build the ark is because I'm going to instruct you on the people that are going to be saved. What is going to be saved? And what is not going to be saved and with Noah he spent over a hundred years building this Ark they lived a lot longer than we do.

Penny spent all this time building an ark to to show us and to reveal us. But there are those that God chooses to save and those that he chooses not to those that are rescued in that Ark will be saved and those outside of that Ark will perish.

The circumstances really were not any different than Jesus day than Noah's day. The entire Earth was sinful the entire Earth was slated for Destruction.

Only the next time that God is going to destroy the Earth. It'll be with fire and not with water.

Jesus is like Noah.

Because Jesus is is.

the plan that God uses to save people

The structure of the destruction is not yet. Come. but it will Jesus arrival is really just the beginning of the construction of a spiritual Ark.

You say this are cuz not the doors had not been closed yet.

They're still opportunity for for anyone and everyone who wants to turn to Christ to come. And to be a part of the arc to be a part of the saved. But I will say this but once those doors are closed.

It's over.

salvation

Really only comes through Jesus. There is no one else. We know that from Acts chapter 4 verse 12 and there is salvation and no one else for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

The question is what side of the door are you on?

when Jesus came

he was like Noah.

And I'm sure if the people outside of that arc when the waters came. I'm sure at that moment when they're pounding and they're there gasping for their lives. I'd almost bet they wish they were on the other side of that door.

I think about Israel and I think about all that Israel did and see when David became king. It wasn't always easy. Not everybody was for him, but I bet you today. They wish I wish I'd have followed David. We should have been on David side.

and if you study The Exodus There's a lot of people that didn't listen to Moses.

And it was disastrous for them. There are accounts where the ground actually swallows people. And then they were never seen again.

this event of Christ arrival

is a whole lot bigger than most people give credit for

It was a small Scottish Church in a small town.

The deacons before the worship service one Sunday morning pulled the elderly Minister side and they were really disappointed in this preacher because they explain dance is all year long. You've only had one convert and it's just a little boy.

And the preacher was so discouraged that throughout the service. He's thinking while I think this is the time that I resign.

And so through the service he does his service and he's about to resign and he's thinking about it and he's shaking hands and this little boy this same little boy comes up to him. Eddie asked the preacher and he says, you know Do you think that if I work real hard for an education that I could become a preacher? or even a missionary

the old preacher said may God bless you. Yes, you will become a preacher.

Many years later and age missionary return to London from Africa. His name was spoken with reverence Nobles invited him to their home because of his eloquence and because of the impact that he is made. in the kingdom of God He was very successful and responsible for literally thousands upon thousands of people coming to know Christ.

His name was Robert Moffat. this guy

he was the same. little boy It was in that church. That was the only convert.

I look at this passage. And I can't help but think we really don't know the impact. of the efforts that we make really don't know the difference that's going to happen in this world.

But we need not to be afraid to make them. And if all we do changes the heart of just one little boy.

That may be all were here to do.

We don't know. But this is one thing I do know. And one thing is for sure only those who are faithful really have joy this time of year. Only those who are faithful can really understand what the arrival means we look at this having Moses means that Jesus reveals God's word like Moses

His arrival means that Jesus leads us like David.

His arrival means that he saves us like Noah.

the entire Old Testament

Is wrapped up? Do this one person Jesus Christ?

I wonder how many of the people as it was happening really understood what was going on. I wonder if they were to make predictions about this baby that the shepherd's talked about. I wonder what they would have said. I wonder how accurate they would have been. You know what it really doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if they understood who he was. What matters is. Do you understand who he is?

Are you allowing him to teach you God's mind like Moses. Are you allowing? Jesus to lead you? Like David, are you allowing Jesus to save you? like no

That's what this is all about.

It's not so much just what he has done for you.

What are you doing for him? Let us prey.

Father I do thank you for your shoe. I thank you for your marvelous. Wonderful. magnificent plan

To save Sinners Is Us. No, we have fallen short and we deserve punishment.

That you sent your son that we might receive favor.

Good, we're soaked thankful. We're so much in your debt.

Words cannot describe how much we owe you?

The Lord this morning help each one of us will give our lives to you.

Hope each one of us turn to you always trust you.

Help us to listen to you.

That you might have your way in our lives.

Lord there is nothing nothing in this world. But the blood of Jesus this Asus.
