have spent the last

maybe a month-and-a-half looking at the gospels and how Prophecy from scripture was used to prove that Jesus was the Messiah. Matthew cordle water prophecy to make his point John shared scriptural evidence showing that Jesus death was prophesied. On the day of Pentecost Peter you scripture to support his argument that Jesus resurrection have been prophesied and that Jesus was in fact the Messiah.

What does a short amount of time after sermon on Pentecost Stephen was stoned to death for after defending himself before the Sanhedrin? A man named Saul was the catalyst. assisting and approving of the stoning of Stephen Who was this stall? Why was this young man with the same when Steven was on trial? He tells us in his own words when he was facing pretty much the same fate in the temple courts many years later Acts chapter 22 verses 3 through 5. I am a Jew born in Tarsus in cilicia. I brought up in this city educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers being zealous for God as all of you are the same. I persecuted this way to the death binding and delivering delivering the prison both men and women as a high priest and the whole Council of Elders can bear me Witness. From them I received letters to the brothers and I Journey towards Damascus to take the pills also over there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished. Saul was educated by one of the most prestigious rabbis of the first century. Gamaliel was given the title rub and our Master only six other rabbis have been called that. Is interpretation of the Torah is still studied today. The male Leo was a leader of the Sanhedrin Jewish Supreme Court that met on the temple grounds. They were the ones that Steven was taken to for trial when he was accused of blasphemy. Saul Zeal for God led him to chase down the followers of Jesus as far away as Damascus to bring them to the Sanhedrin for justice and eventually stoning. That's where Saul was headed when he had an experience that would change his life. He came face-to-face with the one that he was persecuting. Jesus met Saul on the road outside of Damascus and 3 Days Later saw was immersed by a Believer there in the city. That's when Saul began his real Mission as apostle Christ. After several years of ministry persecution and travel saw was in Syrian Antioch and Barnabas one of the Believers who'd been in Jerusalem for several years was there with him Saul and Barnabas Court chosen by the elders in Antioch to bring money to support the Believers in Jerusalem after a bad famine. After they return to Antioch, Saul and Barnabas were again chosen to take the gospel to the Gentiles this time. It took Barnabas cousin John Mark with them. Saul was uniquely prepared for this work. He spent his childhood in Tarsus across roads from Merchants at a cultural center for philosophy raibley Athens. Learning from Gamaliel. He was the student of one of the greatest Scholars of scripture in the first century. He was also educated in Greek philosophy and trained is order even though he considered himself a poor speaker. Maybe he was self-conscious. the other name he went by was Paul which in Greek means small or little

they started their mission work in Cyprus. Barnabas was from Cyprus. It's possible that he and John Mark new people who helped them in their work as they crossed the island after trekking across the island. They set sail for the area that we called turkey. But before they started their journey into the central areas of turkey, John Mark went back to Jerusalem. The trip from the coast to pie City in Antioch, their first stop was nearly a hundred miles through the Taurus Mountains. And to an elevation of around 3600 ft. The train was difficult. Was even more dangerous because of Bandits that played the area. They made it to their destination and made arrangements to be at the synagogue on the next Sabbath. When they arrived they were asked if they would speak. Normally they would there would be a reading from the Torah and from the prophets. And then the speaker would expound on those scriptures. Luke tells us what Paul said going to start reading it acts chapter 13 starting at verse 16 Upholstery and motioned with his hand and said men of Israel and you who fear God listen. The God of this people is real chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt and was uplifted arm. He led them out of it. And for about 40 years he put up with them in the wilderness and after destroying Seven Nations in the land of Canaan he gave them their land as an inheritance all this took about 450 years and after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. Began his sermon by addressing the two groups that he knew were in attendance at the synagogue.

And some that were likely proselytes including god-fearers those who believed in Yahweh. And we're learning to become proselytes. All starts by talking about the Exodus from Egypt in the conquest of Canaan showing God's love and protection of his Chosen People Israel. He's setting the stage is audience for surprising event in history that they may not have understood. stepping up in verse 21 then they asked for King and God gave them Saul the son of Kish Man Of The Tribe of Benjamin for 40 years. Raised up David to be their King. How come he testified and said I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart who will do all my will. Of this man's Offspring. God has brought to Israel a savior Jesus as he promised before his coming John had proclaimed the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel and is John was finishing his course. He said Who do you serve? What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold after me one is coming the sandals of whose feet. I am not worthy to untie.

Arkansas was probably who Paul was named for both of them being from The Tribe of Benjamin years, but he didn't please God. So God chose a replacement for him from a different family and even a different tribe this one from Judah.

David was anointed king while he was still very young and Saul continued his King for several years after that. But God chose David for a reason. He was a man after God's Own Heart. God promised David that he would have a descendant who would have an eternal Kingdom that promise was made through the prophet Nathan we find out in 2nd Samuel chapter 7 verses 12 and 13 when your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your father's I will raise up your Offspring after you who shall come from your body and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name and I will establish the Throne of his kingdom forever.

Paul says that Jesus is The Offspring that God was talking about and Paul calls Jesus Savior. One who would rescue the people of Israel but he also points out that there was someone who came before Jesus and that was John. John would be the prophesied messenger coming before the Messiah the one who would prepare the way before him. The scripture that day from the prophets was from Isaiah 40. That's where we find a prophecy at least one prophecy that points to John Isaiah Chapter 3 of voice cries in the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord make straight in the desert a highway for our God. That would be one reason why Paul spoke about John. And that he said John was not the Messiah. And was not even worthy to carry his sandals.

Paul has set up everything that he needs to speak about Jesus now Jesus did his signs and wonders that he did Healing The Sick casting out demons. He jumped right to the end of the story. As far as Jesus life on Earth is concerned. Anyway, he jumps to the crucifixion 26 Brothers. Sons of the family the Abraham and those among you who fear God to us has been sent the message of this salvation. For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterance of the prophets. Which are read every Sabbath filled by condemning him. I know they found in him. No guilt worthy of death. They asked pilate to have him executed. I had carried out all that was written off of him. They took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead and for many days. He appear to those with him From Galilee to Jerusalem his witnesses to the people.

All again addresses his audience directly pointing out that there were both Jews and god-fearers in the group explains that Jesus was the message of Salvation. Usually let me talk to a person say they are a messenger. They carry a message. But Paul says that Jesus was the message itself implying that he came from God. May have been referring to Psalm 107 verse 20. He sent out his word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction in the Septuagint the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible the term that is translated word. Here is the Greek word logos. Which is the same word that is translated as message in Paul's sermon and it's the same word that John uses to describe Jesus in his writings John chapter 1 verse 14 and the word Lagos became flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen his glory glory as of the only son from the father full of grace and truth. Every week every week the people of Israel hear readings from a prophet's. recognize the Messiah when he was there even though

How did the so many details? about the crucifixion He could have been told the details when he visited Jerusalem. But it's more likely that he actually witnessed the events firsthand. I think being a student of Gamaliel was a member of the Sanhedrin. Call Bae have been with them when Jesus was sent the pilot or sentencing. He may have been with them One. Pilots said that he found no guilt in him. Paul continues his discussion of Jesus and his crucifixion burial and Resurrection. He leaves out a lot of the details but maybe his audience knew about the events to maybe some of them were there. Time had come back to pie City in Antioch to tell the story of the strange events surrounding that Passover.

But only the disciples could have told him about Jesus spending many days with them in Jerusalem.

Paul didn't use the word for resurrected when he says God raised Jesus from the dead uses the same word that he used when he talked about how God raised up David as king over Israel when God raised up Jesus from the dead he installed him as king over all king of kings and Lord of lords.

Paul witness all these things personally How can you prove that they're true? Jesus is in fact the Messiah. 4.2 C comes in and that's where Paul turns next. is presented all the testimony about Israel in general and Jesus prepared the way for it now, he starts pointing to other scriptures verse 32 We bring you news that what God had promised to the father's this. He has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus as also is written in the second song. You are my son today. I have begotten you. Ask for the fact that he raised him from the dead. No more to return the corruption. He has spoken in this way. I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David therefore. He says also in another song. You will not let your Holy One see corruption. For David after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation fell asleep and was laid with his father's and saw corruption, but he who God did not see corruption.

Call First points the second song specifically for seven of some as support for his argument. The second song had been considered a Messianic psalm for centuries Paul's referring to it really wouldn't have been unexpected by anyone who is Psalm chapter Psalm 2 not a chapter Song 2 verse 7. I will tell you of the decree the Lord said to me you are my son today. I have begotten you.

The writer of the letter to the Hebrews also uses this verse from song to as evidence that Jesus is the son of God. This song is based on The Prophecy Update 7 in 2nd Samuel chapter 7 that we just looked at it a while ago. Southpole very quickly moved on to a verse from Isaiah chapter 55 verse 3 incline your ear and come to me hear that your soul they live and I will make with you an Everlasting Covenant my steadfast Shore love for David. He's also tying in.

The promise to David that he would have an offspring on the throne forever just to let it by the idea that there would be one offspring that would be almost throwing forever. He quotes from yet. Another song this one psalm 16 verse 10. For you will not abandon my soul to sheol or let your Holy One see corruption Peter use the same birth from psalm 16 in his sermon on the day of Pentecost and defends the prophecy the same way David can't be who this song is about because David is dead and buried not only that but it's been about a thousand years since David died 3000 for us. So his body is most definitely corrupted.

Paul completes his argument and warms his audience about what would happen if they did nothing ignoring his evidence.

Pick up reading here in verse 38, let it be known to you therefore Brothers. That's true. This man forgiveness of sin is Proclaim to you and buy him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you cannot be freed by the law of Moses. Beware there for Less what is said in the prophets? Become about look you scoffers and be astounded at Parish. I am doing a work in your days of work. You will not believe even if one tells it to you. All ties together all the scripture that he shared in one sentence. He ties in the promise to David the message of proclamation that Jesus was In the Flesh and salvation from sin that the law couldn't provide animal sacrifices. Can't change the heart. Simply pay the cost of each individual sin and have to be repeated.

Paul concludes with a warning from the prophecy of habakkuk Originally, the prophecy was a warning to the people of Judah about coming judgment through Babylon a backup prophesied before the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel to Assyria. So the Israelites would find it hard to believe that God would use an evil nation of Gentiles to punish them. Habakkuk chapter 1 verse 5 look among the Nations and see wonder and be astounded for I'm doing a work in your days that you would not believe.

The same was true of the Jews of her century. They could not understand that Messiah had to die. They were expecting a warrior king who would free them from the bondage and tyranny of the Romans. I couldn't see that the warrior Messiah was later. After the suffering servant Messiah had died been raised and ascended to sit at the right hand of God. He returns. That will be the warrior king and every knee will bow to him.

Do you? Believe that Jesus is the Messiah that he was prophesied about. Why so many of the prophets do you believe that he is the Son of God that he died on a cross as a sacrifice for the sins of the world rose on the third day. That's what Paul was telling them about. If you do and you're really turn away from your simple life and work hard to walk on A, New Path. You can be immersed to wash away your sins and when you do you will be immersed into Jesus death on the cross. And you will bury the old simple person that you were and come up out of the water as a new person. If that sounds like something that you need to do, let's talk.
