Heart Attitude of Faithfulness From Life of Joseph
How many are enjoying the Plumbline Series?
Last week Rabbi Freeman did a great job on teaching us about the heart attitude of shalom and letting the shalom of G-d reign in our hearts and being lead by His shalom.
This whole series has been amazing....Rabbi Freeman started us out with Gratefulness, then I shared on Merciful, John talked about Joyful, last week was Shalom-ful and this week is Faithful.
Our Torah portion this week is Vayigash
Vayigash = And He Drew Near
Vayigash - by gosh - Rabbi Freeman
Osh Kosh Wisconsin - Rabbi Aaronson
Two of the greatest influences in my life.
Rabbi Aaronson testimony of $300 gift.
Both of these men are examples of faithfulness.
They have walked the walk and talked the talk for nearly half a century.
Their lives are an example of faithfulness.
I get nervous of young leaders who have very little track record of faithfulness.
It is not how well you start the race it is how well you finish the race.
I would also say....imitate their faithfulness
Consider the outcome of their lives.
Do they have a history of walking in righteousness and faithfulness.
Be aware of shooting stars that light up the night and dazzle for a short while but have no longevity…they have no history of faithfulness.
When I think of faithfulness.
I think of Donald Sexton.
He is the first on here every morning and usually the last one to leave.

Joseph’s life is a picture of faithfulness.
No matter what situation he is in he is found faithful.
He brought back a bad report on his brothers
He was faithful in the house of Potiphar.
He was faithful in the prison and he was faithful in the palace.
Example of our time as Oneg Ministry leaders
Example of our time as Shabbat School teachers
Example of some of the student that I taught in Shabbat School
How do I become a leader at CBM ..... start serving like a leader....then we make you a leader.
I get nervous of people that want position or title but they don’t want to serve.
Why do we have our new members start by serving?
Because Yeshua taught us to serve.
Joseph was faithful in all he did.
Because he was faithful in the little things God could put him in charge of an entire nation.
Then goes from the pit to the palace in one day.
Overnight success is generally the result of years hard work and faithfulness.
It is also worth noting that he had to shave and change his clothes before he went to Pharoah.
The Torah portion we read a few weeks ago said that Joseph was handsome in form and handsome in appearance.
But by the time G-d gets done with him he is dis-shelved and needs to change of clothes.
His good looks don’t bring him promotion, they only got him in trouble.
Promotion comes from the L-rd.
Remember that what is highly esteemed by men is despised by the L-rd.
If you are trusting your good looks, or your beautiful smile, or your charismatic personality for promotion, you can be sure that you will have to keep up your appearances to keep your promotion, but if G-d promotes you, He will protect and keep you and it will have nothing to do with your good looks.
Beth Messiah came about not because of the brilliance of the Freemans or Bryans or the Aaronsons it is the results the Word of the Lord and years of hard work and faithfulness.
How Joseph could stay faithful in spite of all the difficult times he went through?
If there is anyone that has a right to be angry at G-d and give up it seems like it would be Joseph.
He gets thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, slave in the house of Potiphar, being very faithful, when he is falsely accused of sexual sin, thrown in prison for doing the right thing, faithful in the prison, interprets the dreams of Pharaoh’s officials, and still forgotten.
G-d begins to use him supernaturally, but it is still another two years before he is delivered from prison.
How did Joseph stay faithful?
Joseph had confidence in the One who had called him and in His purpose for life.
Joseph had a word from G-d about the purpose of his life, but that word was tested.
He had the dreams as a child…but he was 30 years old before his vision started to come to pass.
Between the time he was 17 and 30, his faithfulness was tested.
For 13 years things got worse instead of better for Joseph.
It is easy to be faithful when everything is going well, but when life gets difficult, or our expectations aren’t met that is when it is difficult to remain faithful.
Most of us start well, we want to remain faithful, we want to follow the call of G-d, but then difficult times come and our faithfulness is tested.
We see this in the life of Joseph.
He had a word from G-d but that word was tested.
The word of Adonai tested him.
צָרַף
remove impurities in metal to make the precious metal pure
refine (lit.) or fig.):—cast, (re-) fine (-er), founder, goldsmith, melt, pure, purge away, try.
Adonai does this in the lives of all true Believers
When we are going through a trial or a test it is important to remember that G-d is working in us even through the trial.
Too often when we face trials or adversity we give up and throw away our confidence and our faithfulness and we short circuit the work of G-d in our lives.
We need to keep our confidence in Him.
Because Adonai is faithful to Israel you can be confident that He will be faithful to you.
G-d did not divorce Israel
As the fullness of the Gentiles comes in, Yeshua will begin to reveal Himself to His people Israel.
We see an example of this in this week’s portion when Joseph revealed himself to his brothers.
Joseph’s brothers did not recognize him because he looked and talked like an Egyptian.
It was not until he revealed his Jewishness that his brothers recognized him.
He showed them his circumcision
יָדַע
Yada = To know - Genesis 4:1 where Adam knew Eve.
In the same way, Yeshua has been dressed in Gentile garments for the last two thousand years, and it will not be until He reveals His Jewishness that His brothers will recognize him.
Our purpose here at CBM is to reveal Yeshua the Jewish Messiah to the Jewish people.
We need to remain faithful, personally and corporately.
Our individual purpose is to be conformed to the image of Messiah.
Faithfulness is continuing to do the next right thing over a long period of time.
Frequently people lack faithfulness to Yeshua and miss His purpose for their lives because they are too busy pursuing their own happiness, comfort, pleasure, or power.
My prayer for each of us is that we will not pursue our own happiness, comfort, pleasure, or power, but that like Joseph we will be faithful to Adonai and pursue His purpose for our lives.
Have you ever wondered how Joseph could stay faithful in spite of all the difficult times he went through?
If there is anyone that has a right to be angry at G-d and give up it seems like it would be Joseph.
He gets thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, slave in the house of Potiphar, being very faithful, when he is falsely accused of sexual sin, thrown in prison for doing the right thing, faithful in the prison, interprets the dreams of Pharaoh’s officials, and still forgotten.
G-d begins to use him supernaturally, but it is still another two years before he is delivered from prison.
How does Joseph stay faithful?
There is something different about the Joseph.
He has a clear sense of the destiny of G-d on his life.
As a child Joseph had a dream that the 11 sheaves of grain of his brothers bowed down to his sheaf of grain and then a second dream of the sun and moon and eleven stars bowing down to him.
Those dreams certainly irritated his brothers and did not win him any favor.
Even his father got upset with him.
Some people teach that from Joseph’s dreams we learn that we need to be careful about who we share the vision that the LORD has given us with.
But the Scriptures indicate that G-d had a plan for Joseph’s life and nothing and no one could derail that plan except Joseph.
We see this in his response to his brothers in chapter 50.
Joseph says: “Yes, you yourselves planned evil against me.
God planned it for good, in order to bring about what it is this day—to preserve the lives of many people.”
Joseph had a word from G-d.
But Joseph’s faithfulness to that Word was tested.
