LAST WEEK

We looked at some characteristics that further described the 144,000
We also saw an Angel warn the inhabitants of the Earth
Preaching to them the Gospel
Asking the inhabitants of the earth to Fear God
We saw another angel proclaiming the fall of Babylon
We read about the consequences tied to the taking of the mark of the beast.

THIS WEEK

We are going to look at the Distribution of the Wrath of God.
Before we get into it, I want to make a few things clear.
In this moment in history
Humanity has been given innumerable chances to repent of their sinfulness
The Gospel continues to go out into the nations
People, have the ability to reject or embrace what the Gospel has to offer.
We know God as a Just God
A God who judges righteously
A God who so loves this world
A God who didn’t withhold His only Son.
A God who would not destroy a city for the sake of 10 who have not bowed the knee.
When asked the question:
How could God judge people for their deeds?
How could a good God pour out His wrath on people, just because they did not believe Him?
We must also ask the question:
How could God hold His Only Son accountable for the sins of the world?
How could
How could a Good God, find it good to allow the Murder of His own Son?
How could he be pleased with the invention of the Crucifixion?
Why would God allow such things?
There is a tension that we must live in
Both acknowledging that it is right for God to judge the world
And being hurt by the reality that many of our friends and family will not accept the Good News of Jesus Christ.

TURN TO

Revelation 15–16 NKJV
1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete. 2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. 3 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! 4 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.” 5 After these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened. 6 And out of the temple came the seven angels having the seven plagues, clothed in pure bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands. 7 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever. 8 The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed. 1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.” 2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. 3 Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. 4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. 6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.” 7 And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” 8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. 10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. 12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. 17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

Revelation 15:1–4 NKJV

Rev 15:
Revelation 15:1 NKJV
1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete.
JOHN SEE’S ANOTHER SIGN FROM HEAVEN
IT WAS A GREAT AND MARVELOUS SIGN
THERE WERE 7 ANGELS WHO HAD IN THEIR POSSESSION THE 7 LAST PLAGUES
FOR IN THESE PLAGUES, THE WRATH OF GOD WOULD BE COMPLETE
JOHN ALSO SAW SOMETHING LIKE A SEA OF GLASS MINGLED WITH FIRE
STANDING ON THIS FIRE-LIKE FLOOR . . .
Were a group of people who had the Victory over the beast
Those who were victorious over His Image
And who had the Victory over the Mark and over his number
NOT ONLY WERE THEY STANDING
They had harps and were worshipping God with the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb from
This song spoke to How Great the Work of God are.
How Just and True His Ways are.
How there should be no one, on this Earth, who does not have a fear of God
Neither those who do not Glorify His Name
For it is He alone who is Holy
All nations will be summoned to come and worship before Him
For His judgements have been manifested.
THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE ARE THE OVERCOMERS IN THIS STORY
THE WRATH OF GOD IS SO BITTERSWEET TO TALK ABOUT
SOMETIMES, WE ARE ASHAMED OF THE REALITY OF THESE TRUTHS
A people group who went against the nature of this world
Maybe we don’t like the reality of an eternal Hell.
When everyone was worshipping the beast
Maybe we do not like the fact that God has some stuff to say about our nature.
When they were celebrating the death of the two witnesses
Maybe we are not ok with our lives being open before the Lord
When the world took the mark of the beast
The Apostle Paul called the Gospel an Offense
This group held their ground
It’s greatest offense isn’t against politics
Think about the unknowns of standing up for righteousness with all of this going on around you
it’s greatest offense isn’t against the progressive thought
Think about what it means to not know how you are going to survive without the ability to purchase food.
It’s greatest offense is against Self
It calls us to change
In all of the unknowns
It bids us to come and die to ourselves.
They sought to remain undefiled, uninfluenced, undistracted from following Jesus.
It encourages us to decrease our selfishness and increase our trust in Him
WHEN WE COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT THE WRATH OF GOD IS REAL AND JUST
SO WHAT HAPPENED AS THIS PEOPLE GROUP PROCLAIMED WHO GOD WAS?
Revelation 15:5–8 NKJV
5 After these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened.
REV 15:
AFTER THE WORSHIP SESH, JOHN LOOKED AND BEHOLD
THE TEMPLE OF THE TABERNACLE OF THE TESTIMONY IN HEAVEN WAS OPENED.
What is this?
This is God’s Dwelling Place
This is speaking of the place in Heaven were God dwells
This place was displayed as open
Not only for the Christ Follower to enter and receive Grace
But a place from which the wrath of God distributed
BUT THEN ONE OF THE FOUR LIVING CREATURES GAVE TO THE 7 ANGELS THE 7 GOLDEN BOWLS THAT WERE FILLED WITH THE WRATH OF AN ETERNAL GOD.
Then John saw that the temple was filled with smoke
Not from the wrath, but from the Glory of God and from His Power.
During this time
No one was able to enter the temple
It will not be until the 7 plagues are complete that anyone will be able to enter in.
IN THIS PICTURE WE SEE THE BALANCE OF GOD’S GLORY AND GOD’S WRATH
It is a picture of what the Gospel came to do
In the Gospel Narratives we see the Veil of this place being torn from top to bottom
Granting Access for the weary, the sinner, and the faithless.
God welcomes all to come and enjoy His presence
But from this same place
Comes a distribution of consequences
It is the consequence of the rejection of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Revelation 16:1–2 NKJV
1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.” 2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.
REV 16:1
THE FIRST BOWL
This is almost identical to
It is only given to those who take the mark of the beast and those who worshipped his image.
Revelation 16:3 NKJV
3 Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died.
THE SECOND BOWL
Imagine if you made your living as a fishermen.
What would happen if the waters turned to blood and all the sea creatures died.
Revelation 16:4–7 NKJV
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. 6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.” 7 And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”
THE THIRD BOWL
REV 16:4-
This Angel not only pours the wrath of God on the rivers and springs of waters
He begins to proclaim who God is.
That God is righteous
That He is the one who is, and was, and is to be.
Because He wasn’t passive about His righteousness
He didn’t just let the persecution continue
He gave the people what they desired
An eternal, godless, result
Revelation 16:8–9 NKJV
8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.
THE FOURTH BOWL
REV 16:8-
Revelation 16:10–11 NKJV
10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.
THE FIFTH BOWL
REV 16:10
Revelation 16:12–16 NKJV
REV 16:12-
THE SIXTH BOWL
Revelation 16:17–21 NKJV
