Jesus is entering into His public ministry 3 1/2 years Jesus will go about preaching and teaching that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. First thing Jesus does is He is led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil… the Christian life we see right away is a battle from day one. As Jesus begins His public ministry about a year has gone by now since His baptism. He was in Nazareth where He was as the Scripture teaches, “a prophet is not without honor except in his home town.”

Love this year got a new house got a new place. All right, some of you have how many want to move? I'm here trying to get out of California. Let's just be honest. Okay, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Okay, just look up for your Redemption draweth tonight that we're blessed. You're here this morning before we get into the word. We're going to be in the Book of Matthew chapter 4, but we're going to start in Hebrews chapter 4 in just a moment here. But before we do that we're going to pray for Paul. Am onion Polident is getting ready to go to Romania, and I just give her a warm welcome and she comes forward.

So I guess the question is are you ready to go? Almost ready starting to pack a woman after my own heart. Yes. She's leaving in about 20 minutes, but the And you're going to be gone how many days 10 days and you share with us than anything that remains that that we can help you with before you go other than prayer? Nothing that you need to get your tennis shoes. All right, just got warm sleeping bag. She got warm socks got warm tennis shoes. What else do you need right now? Let's pray for her this morning have if I know the Lord will be using her tremendously and that we're just blast it till she has a heart that for Mission. She has a heart for people and again, she's not one that just says Hey, I want to go to the remote parts of the world when she's home. She's safely out every single month that here in our church family and sometimes going door-to-door going to the marketplaces any place that the Lord would lead. She is bold and as she loves Jesus and more than anything else. She wants to see the Kingdom of Heaven expanded so not all of us can go but all of us can send a man so we have an opportunity to send her off with prayer and just remember to pray for her head. She's gone and if you've got questions for before she goes to see her love on her how daughter especially do that before she takes off and let's pray for Paul this morning. Forgot we thank you so much for Paula and thank you for her love for you more than just demonstrated that week in and week out day in and day out in her life her love for the gospel her love for the lost and love her sister love for the body of Christ in the Lord. Thank you that you provided for this trip that through your people or do you have met every need that? She has in the Lord we're blessed to be able to be part of that. But every person here for it has a has a play a part in sending her and soul or we Rejoice with her. We pray a hedge of protection about her life as she travels we pray that the Lord will would be done on Earth as it is in heaven that you give her. Peace Lord for any anxiousness that she might have always going to places unknown where you never been before. Thank you for her Zeal Lord. Thank you. Most of all for her compassion and love and we pray just fresh anointing upon her life at Lourdes that you would use her and when she comes home that the Lord she would do what your word declares to do that as we come together and we hear from her that lured her testimony would stir each and everyone of us have to love and to Good Works ourselves. And or just thank you for her. Again. Thank you that we has a church family get to be part of this and what we just so look forward to watching how you work in and threw her at least send her to you who commanded to you as into a faithful God and that look forward to her coming home safely, and we just thank you for the day. We lift her to you in The Wonderful Name of Jesus and we all agreed saying amen. Amen. Thank you so much to give her another round of applause.

And again, if you have a Bible handy this morning on inviting you to open up with me to a Hebrews chapter 4 and I'll buy you two stand to your feet will a start their the series that were in as in the gospel of Matthew find out the series is titled fulfilled because Matthews written this gospel primarily to a Jewish audience with the hope of helping them to see that all the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah are fulfilled in Christ. Jesus himself to be reading that versus 12225 here this morning. I titled this message live bait because it'll make sense as we go along many people like the fish here this morning. Any fisherman, how many do not like fishing at all? It just discussed. You hook a hoe. You'll get the thank God again. It's not really about fishing. It's about Jesus causing us and making us become Fishers of Men. So again, hopefully we can all find her place in that but the in Hebrews chapter 4 to me as we we study this here this morning one of the things that you know, I want you to be aware of you think about God could have sent an angel, you know from Heaven to proclaim the gospel, but it would have resonated with us. It wouldn't have it wouldn't have touched us at the place where Jesus did and where he does being able to relate to us. So I want you to know this morning, you know, whatever you're going through whatever things are happening in life. We have a God that understands we have a God that scripture says that he was like us it he's experienced as we studied the last few weeks about 10. Haitian whatever you're going through he's experienced it some way shape or form to some degree the very same things that you're going through and I love the fact that we have a god that is big enough, you know to relate to every single heart that's represented here this morning. Amen. And so is I think about you know Hebrews chapter 4, you know again, when you look at this, it's just a great reminder to assume that the Jesus understands no broken hearts. He he came to broken people. He and I share with you often the other at work. We're broken people living in a broken World in a Ministry and other broken people and it's Jesus who brings us to a place of wholeness. It's Jesus who makes us whole and that was this message it again that he sharing throughout the Matthew's gospel and it's why you know thousands upon thousands would come out and they would flock and follow him. There was a different wasn't religion, you know, it was about keeping a set of rules. It was an invitation to come into a relationship with God himself that got him Self is what we celebrate at Christmas Emmanuel God With Us amen. And so is you look at this Inn in Hebrews chapter 4 here this morning verse 14 and will read this together and then we'll pray just seen them that we have a great high priest to pass through the heavens Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our confession for we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was an all points tempted as we are yet without sin and what that's what we were studying. Just let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find Grace to help in time of need and this morning. I guess the great question for each and every one of us is do you have need this morning? And if you do then join me as we come boldly before the throne of grace father God. We thank you this morning that we can come boldly before you and we do in The Wonderful Name of Jesus Jesus. You're the one who makes it possible by your body broken your blood shed for us on calvary's cross that we have access now to the father do we have right standing before God or regardless of what we've done that's not the basis of our standing with you lord. It's what you've done for us is that God so loved this world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever would believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life or may you massage that deep within our hearts. The reason that you came May at all. After this Christmas season or just cause us to stand in awe and wonder at the god of Heaven the god of Earth would love us so much that he would come and make a way that we could know him that we could spend eternity. I'd only with God but eternity together Lord help those truths become a reality in each of our hearts this morning. We pray for your glory and for our good we pray these things in The Wonderful Name of Jesus. And again, we all agreed saying amen a man you can be seated. So. Matthew chapter 4, obviously Jesus is coming through the Temptation in the wilderness. He's come through and flying colors. He defeated the enemy as you saw using the word of God. The word of God is powerful the same way that a work for Jesus is the same way that it works for us and he's come to model life of faith in practice verse 12 there Matthew forces. Now when Jesus heard that John had been put into prison he departed to Galilee to imagine the scene. Here you go. John has meal come as the The runner to Jesus, right? And he says, you know, there's one coming after me who's shoelaces, you know her sandals. I'm not even going to fit to tie and and then he sees John John sees Jesus mean when he says, you know Behold the Lamb of God who's come to take away the sins of the world and I'm so I mean John is in this total place of excitement, you know, John is believing like many of the Jews that again when you think about the concept the terms that you'll see in Matthew, he no speaking of the Kingdom of Heaven vs the kingdom of God Matthew really speaks about the Kingdom of Heaven. He uses it many more times than the kingdom of God and for good reason of the Jews believe that when the Messiah came he was going to establish a physical a literal Kingdom and they were they were looking forward to that. And so John's thinking that as well you done so he's proclaiming this and you know, he's excited about it. Now. Jesus is on the scene. He's baptized him, you know now a year goes by John is still preaching. He still teaching you don't to get John is more or less really his focus is life on preaching. He's making the proclamation. He's not so much teaching or nurturing in that respect. He's calling people to repentance. He's telling me there's one coming, you know to make his path straight and go get things right repent do a 180 you'll get yourself right with God turn from yourself turn to God, so he's proclaiming this message and you know, you know what happens when people get really jealous about that message and they go public with it, right? They get put in jail. And so John here he gets thrown into jail and you have to really just read this to appreciate some put yourself in John's position, right? So everything you thought I've ever had a thought about God and not work out the way that you thought and it takes you back. Isaiah, you know that his ways are higher above our ways John's going to have one of these moments right here, cuz look what it says verse 12 Jesus heard that John had been put into prison he leaves That's what I'm saying. He departs he goes to Galilee new Magic Johnson. Hey, hey, hey, you know if you like a good Adventure movie, like I like her a good love story if you're a woman here and you know, when you get you know, when you get taken captive, you know, what's the heroic supposed to do rescue you John's waiting for bail to be posted it. What does it say? Jesus Does He Lives just going it's almost like the tomb of Lazarus right there waiting for Jesus comes. I'm glad I didn't show up you're going I mean, I mean Walking With Jesus, I mean would have us on our ears most of the time just not understanding we say it, you know, so cute, you know and Isaiah and his ways are higher above our ways but it's frustrating you're trying to figure somebody out and you can't figure it out. If you want to hear I want to figure you out and you go and you can't, you know, it's like grabbing water and that's how it is with Jesus here and he's playing things you ever prayed something then got hold you to it. Yeah, what it what is John praying? He said I must what did he say decrease that he might what increase right? So now he has his chance you're ready to grow before, you know, it's like man and so hear Jesus de parks near one of the beauties of this you can silence a voice but you cannot silence light and that's one of the amazing things are receiving today or the gospel is still going forward in this world. You can put people in prison but me and the gospel continue. How does the gospel in a Prosper more in the world is during times of great Prosperity when things are going good, or is it when there's great persecution you going to have one people are are suffering Martin and when they're dying or being broken you might say for the cause of Christ the greater light actually signs for Jesus again. This is the sad part of it. He came to his own John says in his own know. I'm not Matthew 13:57. Because they were so offended at Jesus's but Jesus said to them a prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house and so here is he can't even do ministry in his hometown. So what does he have to do? He's going to a place where there's people that are hungry that again and he's being the lead of the spirit. There's something that's important here that the people were in darkness where where Jesus was headed because Jesus wasn't there in a river Jesus isn't at that's where darkness is. Hell is hell because Jesus isn't there in heaven is heaven because Jesus is there a man and so, you know, one of the things that we see right away from his life that's important to know that you know, Jesus obviously is born of the spirit. We we we see that he's filled with the spirit. He's led by the spirit. He's actually driven by the Holy Spirit when he he personifies a Spirit-filled spirit-led Spirit Driven Life in this is the very thing that he desires for you and I as his disciples that again the invitation that he'll make it. Goes along here. And so again, the greatest blessing we have is again what we celebrate it Christmas, you know, Emmanuelle think about that. You know, what does it mean again Emmanuel God With Us and he's with you today. If you're in Christ, Jesus is with you no matter where you go no matter what goes on again. He's with you and yet here is Jesus going to Galilee Philippians doesn't he humbled himself to the point of becoming a man you think you know as the king of the Jews where would be the place that you would establish your throne in your kingdom Oldham. It's where it's going to be. It's going to be in Jerusalem, right? But he's being rejected now, he's not being received by his people. So he's going to go to the farthest in a remote place that he can get to he's going to go up into the Galilee region, which is it in the North near Syria near the go on Heights there that it again places where there's just a continual war that takes place will read about some of this in the in the names that that he expresses here, but you would think that he'd be right there in Jerusalem. You know monks the religious leaders who are teaching that and proclaiming that the Messiah is coming and he's right there amongst them, but they're in darkness and yet he's come to bring light into this world. I love the fact that you know when he began to again preach, you know, he picks up right where John leaves off. He preaches a message of repentance. But he's also not just proclaiming but he goes about his teaching as well and It Again Luke Scottsville. He he reminds us of this when Jesus went into the synagogue in and that's where you always went. The first place that he went was to his people he he came for the lost sheep of the House of Israel. That's where he went first when he was rejected their did he just say, okay, I guess I won't do anything and sometimes that's what we do. What will pray about you know, Ministry and doing something and it won't work out the way that we hope so we just quit and we just as opposed to the scripture say no no, no, you know dust your shoes and do what keep on going knock on the next door how many rings sales really been in sales here? You don't have sales are tough. Huh? How many how many knows they say, you know, you get like seven knows of it before you get a yes. So you learn to liver rejection. How many love baseball any baseball players in here? I mean strikeout most of the time, you know, and you can still be a millionaire. That's what's so amazing. But as long as you get a really good head every, you know, like three at-bats your ear in the thing but it it's hard but yours Jesus in his first Ministry of teaching in the synagogue. It says in Luke 4 verse 17 it says and he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah says we need to open the book. He found the place where was written. The spirit of the Lord is upon me if we know that from Reading Matthew's gospel write the he's being led of the Holy Spirit the key to being used of God churches be glad of God's spirit. He said the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. So, where is he going? He's going to the poorest of the poor. I mean you think about you know, where he's going to be at in that Galilean region there I mean, Utah, Get out to the Gentiles, you know, I mean to the outcasts of the downcast mean use it. It's like in Altamonte and arvind parts of Bakersfield in Oildale, you know chapter, you know, I mean, you could be all these areas, you know, the Shafter, you know, Wasco Lamont Delano You Know Tab Lost Hills, you know, Derby Acres Dustin Acres, listen be the kind of place where the king of kings and Lord of War II imagine that's that's he's walking around going from place to place in the people are coming out to to see him there and he says that he says God he said he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted Proclaim Liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind to set at Liberty those who are oppressed to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and he told the people said today that this this scriptures been fulfilled in your mitts that God had come from Heaven to Earth. Again, going back to your John's Gospel of John chapter 1 verse 6. It says there was a man sent from God. His name was John says this man came as a witness to Bear witness of the light that all through him might believe that's what John is the lightest hear. The light is coming to the world and he says he was not the light but he was sent to Bear witness of the wife. That was the True Light gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world in the world is made through him in the world did not know him. He came to his own his own did not receive him. That's how we ended up in the Galilean region here. It says but as many as received him the damn he gave the right to become children of God to those who believe in his name who are not born not of blood nor of the will the flesh nor the will of man but God, so we're seeing you. This is what we're going to see is it takes off from here is Jesus begins to the preaching to teach there in the Galleon reader and study starting next week. We'll see the the Mount of Beatitudes in The Sermon on the Mount and it's one of the most wonderful teachings it in scripture there verse 13 And leaving Nazareth. He came and dwelt in capernum which is by the sea in the regions of zebulun and naphtali capernum means Village of Mayhem against little fishing Village in the north exit on the east shore of the Sea of Galilee. There's about fifteen hundred people history tells us living there a little obscure Village anything about this king of kings and Lord of War that that's where he goes to, you know, again verses 15 and 16 Day quote Isaiah chapter 9 verses 1 and 2 and it says that it might be spoken and fulfilled which was by the prophet Isaiah say in the land of zebulun and the land of NAFTA Lie by the way of the sea beyond the Jordan Galilee of the Gentiles again, he's not even going to the Jews. He's going to the Gentiles. How does the people that's us by the way, you know, that's good news that says the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light didn't say that they were in darkness in that sense or they walked in darts as they sat in it. If that's how dark it is, I mean, they're literally you're just sat in the dark. You're headed to have been at home. And then the power goes out. You're just sitting in the dark and it's just like Doom and Gloom. It says in-app on those who sat in the region and the shadow of death. Now that region was called the shadow of death because of the go on Heights because many of Israel's Wars took place. There was a constant play have attacked by their enemies. There has been a light has Dawn this is a major, you know, Caravan route that connected to the Mesopotamia are there to Egypt all came through that it was, like, I guess if you're looking at, you know, try to picture Bakersfield for a second the same kind of hair. You got the 99 Freeway. You got the 58 freeway coming through there I-5 you don't pass me to take out before I v I was there when it happened to everything had to go through Bakersfield, right and you were people excited about coming to Bakersfield. We are Big B on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, you know, yeah, I got towed into Bakersfield one-time got a flat, you know who got arrested there one time, you know Tumbleweed came and you know, all kinds of stuff, you know, just who was always know something not flattery. Will this is so you can picture it. It's the same kind of general area where Jesus now is doing Ministry there people like what is he doing? You know up there in this particular area at 4:17 that says and from that time Jesus began to preach and say repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. I love about this is does he come up with a new message? What are Jon courson ISM if it's true? It's what it's not what new and if it's new. It's not true. If it's true, it's not noon. If it's new, it's not true know. Jesus is just picking up. It's like a baton and that's always asked you and I to do is is to receive the receipt from him like a baton in to take that message and to continue on with it. We don't have to change I could ask you this morning and we believe your dad scripture is infallible, right the way that God gave it to us. And it's it's origin. It's completely infallible. And then the real good question for me and you today. Yeah. This is the argument that's taking place in the church is the word of God sufficient in our lives. Can we study the Bible and find what we need to live this life? Absolutely. And that's what Jesus is talking about. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand at these when it's right there. It's right before you Jesus is here on this Earth. And so he preaches a message of repentance. And again, what does it mean to repent? Minster turn right turn I do a 180 to turn then I just turned go do something else turn from your own ways to God's ways right turn to the things of God and I'll begin to do the things that God has called us to do when you go. Can I you've read the Bible. I read the Bible who can you do those things are possible. They're impossible impossible. We said I like I said, we try to do those things right and you get going for a while and you get a couple of them down good then what happens if you plates fall off and next thing, you know, you're just going and what are we do we give up because God hasn't called this to a bunch of rules and regulations. He hasn't called us two religions what we're sharing last Sunday. He's called this to a relationship to find our identity in him. That is this is a beautiful thing that he just keeps regenerating here as we walk through this, you know, again, he says that he'll make us become Fishers of Men and I found it as people were either Oriented the people mean that we love people but we're not really good at that you're in the gospel or we're really good that you're in the gospels were not oriented the people meaning that you know, we love sharing the word. We don't really care for the people you go and it's kind of like, you know, there's a there's kind of a happy medium there. You know that God wants to bring in our life These fishermen, you know, they were small business owners and they were profitable and what they did and what God is calling us is the same thing that he was calling John the Baptist to have this realization. We must do what if we're going to be effective in living the life that Jesus is about ready to invite your the disciples into I'm just ahead of the game here because we read the Bible were looking back on a story here. This isn't the first time that we've heard it. He said John himself. He said I must have been do I decrease that? He might increase and I think we understand that and that's the call that's upon all of our Lives its downward Mobility. Jesus said the greatest among shoe is who the servant and the one who serves is that the one who's at the top but the one who's at the bottom. I mean these guys all own stuff. They were business owners. They they had things would you agree that repentance comes at a cost?

Does repentance coming to cost? Yeah, it's it's it's going to be about you know, surrendering. It's about giving up. You know, again, it's coming alongside. Yes. I see that I think about the Christmas season and you know, it isn't it amazing how many more people we run into that have need during the holidays? It's almost like you can't even go out shopping without running the more people that have signs that are saying, you know, not even will work for food. You know, that was the old one. Tell me just saying I'm starving. Can you spare a few know some change? No family you out of work for you know months and months just need food for our baby or we need diapers. And and we do what you know, we become so callous. We just fit right, you know, you're just going to use that for you know, some greedy purpose. So I'll go there for turn my heater up in my truck and you keep on on driving and they're standing out there, you know on the sidewalk. And it's easy to do that. That's what happens you known religion. And again you look at you know, what Jesus is about ready to unfold here. So why should I Repent? Why should I turn my world upside down? That's the question for me. That's the question for you to trust me. I had to study this this week for myself is why because the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and if there was a kingdom of heaven was not at hand then it would be just go that what you're doing if the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand then you know, what don't worry about anybody else if you know that he who has the gold makes the rules going to go for it as much as you can afford it under yourself. What is the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand again in in you look at the gospel of Matthew and what is about to unfold for us? This is a radical call. This is a radical change that God is calling us to make we can't make it on her own or is he telling us he's not pointing to something and say hey you guys need to go do this you need to do this. He says follow me. your followed anybody before

not like a stalker. I mean, I don't mean like like that but I mean like, you know, how many likes he likes sports sports sports enthusiasts hear you have a favorite team how many other favorite play Pandit sportser, you know in whatever in life you got so many people you like in sports. You can tell somebody likes a sports team. Usually they'll they'll do whatever we got some guys that like football and they'll come in on a Sunday in your Tim pool be wearing his New England Patriots jersey, you know, some people still need another shirt is that the only one that he has you don't know he's got plenty of clothes. He is the Patriots Manny from Boston news for Massachusetts. Do you need loves loves the Patriots? And so he he shows his love for the team by doing what by dressing like them. Will there's a way that you and I can dress that followed. Jesus will look at that in just a moment, but it's about repenting. It's about following God that that's the invitation. You know, that that he's making one of the interesting things in those I was studying through the Never really studied it in this death of a of a way that usually take place in Jesus day people go to the rabbis and just like new people Stanford. I want to go to Ivy League school and you do what you know, you you try to get in right? Well in in Jesus day, that's what you did you went to the rabbi's you should have like to I'd like to learn under your tulips, you know, the Apostle Paul. He sat under Gamaliel, which is like to the Harvard theology school of Paul's dad. So it wasn't, you know, if you were named dropping to say while I studied under the milia the man that was something will Jesus isn't having people come to him. You got to think about this. They're not for the most part coming in and going Jesus. We want to follow you. There's a good reason. Because if you follow Jesus there was a good chance that what you were going to die Jesus on the other hand went to people and he said to them follow me. All of Me and again, if you're going to follow him then then there was something again you the beauty of this church that I hope that you do understand a Christmas more than just a manual that God is with us he's going I want you to be with me or John 17 is his father I pray that they would be with us he wants us to be with him forever in eternity. Should I go to prepare a place for you loves you so much that he wants you to be with him. That's awesome. He's going to put the price that that it that it'll cost, you know, cuz it could cost you your life. You know, Jesus said hey follow me, but you know, there's a good chance you're going to get crucified. You think a whole bunch of people where we sign up there two pages. You will just one signature drive to date at that means like you don't do I need a thumb stamp on that one. You need a notary now. There's a high cost.

Again, God has so much more for us church, then we can possibly know. Why should we repent and you look at that this morning again? There's a new kingdom that's coming the Kingdom of Heaven at use 32 * there in Matthew's gospel were kingdom of God is only use five times. Like I said the Jewish people remember they were looking for a physical, you know, a material a literal Kingdom. Angie is going know. There's something more. There's a spiritual there's an eternal Kingdom settle looking around. I want you to look up I need in your life each day. Cuz we tend to do what we look around we measure life and everything by the things that we see around us who has one who's doing what and he's going at it and that's that's going to matter what really matters is lookup new lookup set your affections on the things we're up above now, not on the things of this Earth and so here's Jesus inviting us and I also want you to think about this this morning in this invitation that we have to follow him turn real quick. If you were the Colossians chapter 3 verses 12 through 14. Again, because one of the the pictures that Jesus is painting for us here is that this is what he wants for us is bigger. It's way better than what you and I can imagine that that that's the beauty of God. I mean, you know, it says I hasn't seen nor ear heard nor is it even entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love him. I mean we've seen some pretty amazing awesome things in this world every one of my grandbabies man are amazing. So beautiful, you know to look at to the hold, you know anything can you go and and they won't compare To what heaven will be like in a one day and you go if there's going to be some amazing things to lay our eyes on the look at this cuz it wasn't just about the Jewish people. It's about me it's about you. It's an invitation here today Church. Jesus is saying repent turn from your way. That's not a bad thing. Okay, people have the same. No, cuz we've seen the signs and repent or go to hell repent Turner burner that wasn't the beauty of repentance. The beauty of repentance is we don't have to do things our way. We don't have to, you know live by Einstein's theory of insanity that we do the same thing over and over and over and over again expecting a different result to know. If not we can there's a New and Living Way, you know Hebrews tells us in Christ Jesus in his personal relationship. Not what you can do for God not what I can do forgot what God can do in and through us as we learn how to watch surrender to him. And that's a process sanctification is a process justification happened all in one day. The date of Jesus Christ died on that cross the day that you open your heart to him. You were justified by the blood of Jesus Christ with the process of becoming like Jesus is a slow slow slow. Okay, I'll be like, you know, I love you and they design roller coasters and stuff you ever seen those shows where they do that and then they have people that know they're like test people that get on it, but when they admit made one and it's just got too many G's to pull know that's how they learn to tone it down because everybody gets on there and they get my bag and they go around the first Turns full like 60s now. Okay. Well, we better slow than Engineers are going. Jesus is know if he just took us from who we are to who ultimately we're going to be one day. We need a barf bag. I'm just telling you right now. It was this week. We couldn't handle the transformation. Now. It's a process will look at us in that process Colossians 3 12 through 14 you think about this especially over the holidays does put on them? This is the NAB translation says put on then as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved heartfelt compassion what you think it is worth heartfelt compassion kindness humility gentleness and patience bearing with one another and forgiving one another if one has a grievance against another so is the Lord is for giving you so must you also do and over all these put on love that is the bond of perfection. So what is he telling us to do close ourselves? You should follow me. Just like, you know, you could identify somebody that you know, if you are a Green Bay Packer fan, you know what it would it have identified Green Bay Packer fan for the most part where they do they go to the game and they have on what you came in to church or 2T said somebody might think it's strange that might think you know, but they're going to let you in because they've seen it before right there going to rain here comes a cheesehead and you're going why they're worth at the church or they go to the Packers play today so that and you can do that with any you know religion. Give me for the most part except for Christianity. I mean you can look and could you could you tell a Buddhist monk is a Buddhist monk walked into the church. How about a sheep, you know didn't have a headdress. How about a Muslim, you know, there's some type of garbage or some type of clothing. You know that we wear when you go get a Christian. You go. It's not a I mean look at this is a real look around. The dirt is a room full of Christians and nobody's dress the same in here. How do we know? How could we possibly know Jesus said follow me and I will make you become Fishers of Men and so here jumping ahead. Then you'll Colossians tells us. So how do we do it? How do how do we become Fishers of Men? You look at what it what were the things that Jesus did remember that old expression people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. How many by a show of hands believe that's true. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care what your hands up. It's okay, even if they answer that but look at this. So look at these words. I mean cuz Paul hear nothing about Paul and you got to love this was Paul always a compassionate person. Okay, if you study Paul's wife in Paul, you know, I mean, he's like, you know stand there's a coat rack. Unova's Stephens killed right? He's calling for the death of Christians. He goes 300 miles to Damascus. Christians back to Jerusalem to be built ride and thrown in jail was not a very kind person and I'm very patient person is definitely not compassionate but something's happened. What did he do you repented he repented he went from being Paul Saul of Tarsus to the Apostle Paul. What did he do? He repented you turn from himself, and he turned to the things of God, and he and again he didn't say all going to try to be we've all done is like I said, it's not remember sin is a noun. It's not a verb. It's a connection to Adam and righteousness and Holiness and Justice it again, all these things that are in Christ Jesus. They're not they're not verbs either. It's a noun. It's a relationship between the Waters of baptism. We died to send an atom. We came out at Water raised in the new new new life. It's in Christ Jesus. It's a wonderful thing and then these become the demarcations of our life you think about that word compassion now in some of your Bibles, it'll say the word ballet anybody has that in the King James version says don't you love that? You know, I love you with all my bowels with your spouse still make honey. I just want you to know. I love you with all my bowels, and I know you do honey, and and please stop it. No, it isn't where we get the expression. I love you with all my heart, right? So again, meaning you again as in the special you think about the initial response to have compassion and this is what Jesus did mrs. What he did so well and we know you go because the masses flock to him who the Gentiles the rejected these guys were fishermen. They lived out in villages. They were herdsmen. They were they were farmers in Bakersfield living in the surrounding, you know areas here that this was an Agricultural Society Marion until you look at this and you go boy, what did you think about compassion with what they have if you had to Define compassion, how would you define it? What you think about that for a second? It's feeling feeling but other people are feeling.

That's that's where it begins to say God help me to feel what they feel. As opposed to going in your hate, you know, I mean we don't religion is somebody knocks on your door, right or did when they knock on your door. They feeling what you feel they have an agenda or just want to tell you something. They just have the information is like a Salesman right? I want to sell this thing. I just want to sell it. How do we close the deal? Why do we close the deal and here is Jesus coming along and we see this in Matthew's gospel. He's doing what he's feeling what other people are feeling. That's why I started with keyboards for we have a high priest church that can relate to us. He's been tempted in all points. He he feels he has felt what we feel he understands he knows he's going I want you if you're going to follow me then these are the things that will that will earmark your life that you'll feel compassion about kindness. Can you define kindness? What what's when you say being kind to someone what it what do you think of?

Maybe by definition of cyclone in your strength to someone else like someone showed you kindness that you see somebody who has more than you that stronger than you that humbles themselves and they do something then that was very kind of you, you know to do that day they gave up their strength to to your weakness in that in that moment about humility. Not seeing yourself for who you really are, you know for the most part, you know Jesus he condemned apocracy right and there's a pieocracy in all of our lives. And what is it a hypocritism someone who wears a mask, right? We try to present ourselves in the best light possible Right, but who we really are is who we are win when nobody's looking except forgot, okay? But humility haven't having a right view of Self in relationship to God and other people I guess the point with humility is or any of us better than anybody else.

For all have what sin and fall short of the glory of God, how are we saved? Is it by Good Works? Or is it the fusions to 894 by what Grace you have been saved? Yeah, how about gentleness? Gentleness, can you define that? journalist

putting yourself again you on the other person's level responding to others in light of their strengths and their weaknesses and in as opposed to My Own Strength, you know, it's stupid. We know that Jesus and Moses were the only two people in Scripture that were considered Meek, you know as associated with kindness there. No adjusting ourselves. How many work with children like you whether you working are Nursery or you have small children? And what are you do you do you show gentleness them right you don't come in you all right. Hey, we're going to have our meeting here. So here we are two year olds at come over all you to get your butt over here. So now I'm okay. I understand going to take about Jesus today. You might feel that way. But what are you do you walk in San Diego? Hey, hi Johnny. Hey Johnny Johnny Johnny. Johnny Johnny Johnny Johnny Johnny Johnny

Johnny Johnny Johnny Did you get that? Yo SE gentle you let my relationship with you is more important to me than you being impressed by who I am or what I do, you know didn't Jesus do that on the night of heat that he was betrayed what it is. It says he took off his outer garment and you wrap it around his waist and he washed the disciples feet.

pretty amazing to adjust to do what? We just down really for the benefit of other people would you say that that's what Jesus did He adjusted the god of Heaven came in the form of a man flipping says he humbled himself to become point of becoming a man to the point of death upon a cross mean you keep you can't get any more humble than that. And Jesus is saying these are the things that if you're going to be my follower, these are the things that again he goes his I like to go shopping and I need some compassion little bit more compassion and I need some gentleness today you go. Usually we determine we need gentleness. When do we normally determined? We need gentleness after we've been harsh. Hello patience. Patience. Hurry up answer.

patience This is the most convicting one for me when I think about this cuz Patience by definition choosing.

This one hurts. Okay all of them hurt, but this one hurt really bad. choosing

To go the speed of other people.

Am I alone in that? Okay good and then bearing with one another you know, what does it mean to bear with one another what you're doing right now? Okay. I provoke you to bearing you know very well. I was doing what it's putting up with one another. Imagine the picture to an unbelieving world and matter fact, isn't it? Such a sad thing about the body of Christ today in the Bible warns of this that the last days are going to do the demarcation me all the things that we're going to see here on the body of Christ in the last days is that the love of men he's going to do what's is going to grow cold? Because what that were so concerned and consumed with our self rather than the benefit of other people. Putting up with other people the way that Jesus puts up with you. Let me ask you by a show of hands. This is new. Is it good to be honest in church. How many would say by a show of hands Jesus puts up with you?

It didn't raise your hand. I don't see that. Well anyway, so it's just and then forgive forgive as God has forgiven you forgive as God has forgiven you don't forgive like, you know, you forgive other people but forgive like God has forgiven you and where there's so much more that we're going to cover and that on The Sermon on the Mount and it's powerful. It's profound here and then again put on love because that ties it all together, you know, it's like friendship, you know, a three-fold cord is not easily broken Susan tie it all together, you know, what love put all these things, you know, clothe yourself everyday can with compassion and kindness humility gentleness patience and forgiveness and love and like I said him and Paul the Apostle's the one who wrote these things, right? And you think about you know that and I hear he is, you know, why because a transformation is taking place this life. He's born of the spirit. He's filled with the spirit. He's being lead of the spirit. He's being driven by the Holy Spirit and we should desire those same things in our life as well. You know, I don't want to encourage you like I was encouraged this week. He knows I studied through this. You know you read these things you'll closing yourself. You look at this and you go.

Wow, compassion kindness humility gentleness patients forgiveness of want you to know, you know the less that you are like these things when that becomes and evidence in your life the more noticeable it becomes like a little boy Johnny, you know, Camp little story about little kid named Johnny and he used to terrorize all the kids in his cabin you ever go to youth camp and got one kid that just terrorize everybody. You know, that's in the cabin took all their stuff they'd stashed their candy and all those other candy under pillow and he take all their good candy to tie their shoelaces together again while they were sleeping, you know taking a nap and then get up and pulled me off on the floor and you know, do all kinds of stuff, you know to short-sheet their beds and and and during the teaching that week. It's something got a hold of his heart God did and he saw that you know what that what he was doing, you know was alienating him from his campers to sell campers and Suites. What am I doing? You prayed about it a little boy 7 8 9 years old and he started to your place to all the candy that he'd stolen from him. You know, he he said all their shoes out and clean them and they're all muddy. You don't need wiped him down. He just did everything that he thought that he could be made their beds for him all the stuff. They didn't even clean the bathroom and they came in and he was sitting there and and the council, you know, I was looking around these Johnny did you do this? It's all all his cab-mate. So we're sitting around there with them in their eyes are just like silver dollars are looking at him. But if there was the expression that they that they stated that was so profound. They looked at him and they said who are you and what have you done with Johnny know that that's a great compliment a man to see that kind of transformation in Jesus promises us. He said he who began a good work in you is what Contact he began a good work in you is faithful to complete it. Jesus said here and Matthew chapter 4. He's calling the disciples and he says follow me and what will happen. He said follow me and you're going to go do great exploits in my name. Is that what he said? He said follow me and here's the key and if you've got your Bible if you want to highlight this he says I will I will and I love that is that you will he says I will God will I will make you become Fishers of Men. Or something about live bait. When God's got a hold of your life and it's not you going out for him. It's him holding the line of your life. It's him directing you and leading you again being born of the spirit being filled with the spirit being lead of the spirit being driven by the spirit being live bait forgot Rose 18 and 19. It says Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee saw two brothers Simon called Peter and Andrews brother casting the net into the sea. They were fishermen. He said to them follow me and I'll make you become Fishers of Men. Don't you love how God just took something that would redeem their what their Ambitions their own desires and their interest in he redirected him, you know, God can use you church right where you're at today. He's not telling you to quit your job and go somewhere else not saying that he wouldn't tell you to do that. But for the most part he wants you to become naturally Supernatural he wants to use you right where you're at if you'll let him if you'll let him do that work in you if you will. Just give him your life and say God, you know what I want to decrease. I don't want you to increase. I know that there's a cost that there is a cost to repentance because you know, what if I start living the way and we know this right by start living the way that he wants me to live and guess what I'm a Slowdown have to be patient. I don't have to go at other people's Pace have to be gentle. I'm have to stoop I might have to prefer others over myself and you know why we don't want to do that cuz we live in America. New we got places to go. We got things to do. We love our time. We love our space. We love giving when we can control the giving we love and there's a there's something and all of us. Like I said, I was telling us for months ago. There's a Pharisee that lives inside of every single one of us that wants to dumb down Christianity back to religion. We want it on paper. You know, what how far I got to go one mile. I like it. Okay for a mile, but you go what the extra mile I can help you today? How long does it take? I just love when you have somebody help you really? Looks like when somebody goes I need help they go. Hey, I'm there. You're the same way, you know, you would want that right? Just Jesus. I mean this is deeply deeply theological. But think of this treat other people the way that you want to be treated.

What do you really mean by that? That's what we do right can't be that simple treat other people with I would want them to be available at want him to be kind that want to be gentle. I'm going to be patient, you know, you could have meant that you must be a deep deep Greek word that describes that so what's the out and we look for that out. Right? But what if they're not nice, what do they say bad things about me what they spitefully use me. That's got to be my out right now. Jesus said love your enemies. What is an enemy? Image Sergeant word studies and go deeper into what did you really mean? He couldn't admit that he did. He wants to do amazing things in through our life. He says follow me and I will make you become. I mean think about this now did the disciples and I want to give you this Grace as we closed today. Now when we Jesus began this working the disciples, do they get it? No 3 and 1/2 years later years later in the garden the police come to Russ Jesus Peter is right hand man see cuz this is got what he's got. The is a nursery right Peter James and John those are his buds. That's what he hangs out with the most and he's got the 12. He's not the 12 disciples and he's got the 7D right? He's got the molecube a Peter James and John they are the internet group right 3 and 1/2 years later there in the garden the police come and what does Peter do what takes off a guy's just think about the scene here for a second. We got to go see how many grams is here. And here is Jesus. Peter Peter Peter Peter, he picks up the year and does what music imagine Jesus and the guys only. I'm okay. I'm just leaving now. So what are you doing voice analysis? That's what that's what he does. That's what you did in the disciples life was until after he was resurrected from the dead in the Holy Spirit was given calendar and underestimate the power of the holy spirit in our life. I mean Jesus for his entire life here on Earth. He was hanging out with publicans tax collectors and Sinners and they were coming to masses were coming to not everybody was a disciple. If you want to be a disciple, you got to make a decision. There's an invitation from Jesus. He says follow me, but to follow comes with a cost means you life's not your own any longer. You can come to church while you went you can always be the mixed multitude. You can show up here every single Sunday and will love you will do whatever we can for you but to be a disciple to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ that comes at his invitation. Are so we can send her all day and go, you know, if you want to come forward and we can do that and we should do that. But that's not what really counts for really counts when you come to him. You say War. I'm not going to I'm not going to live for myself any longer. Hi, I know I'm selfish. I know you're not. And Lord of fuel change me. Call I'll give you my heart. If you'll do that work, I'll go where you're telling me to go. I'll fly call I'll get on a plane and you know, Mitch could have went downtown. We got called to get on a plane and go to Romanian minister to orphans why she going because God told her to you don't have to explain everything to everybody who God told me to why did Jesus go from Nazareth to Galilee? Cuz the spirit led him to go where God leads us to go. Bus 20 22 says immediately left their Nets immediately. So they followed him going on from there and saw two other brothers James and the son of Zebedee and John is brother in the boat was Zebedee their father mending their Nets. He called them and immediately they left their boat and they follow their father doesn't Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease amongst the people so about two hundred small villages here scattered all around like a children who Jesus is going to and fro he's preaching repentance and he's also teaching them the things of the kingdom here just even says there's about twenty thousand people that are following Jesus at this time pretty amazing. He's healing lepers now, you got to think about this in Jesus day. There was no cure for leprosy. Right and lepers are people that you stayed away from it says they can't run event stages of leprosy note. That means want you to picture this. Advanced stage of the leprosy means that limbs are falling off fingers are falling off then your nose falls off. I mean imagine this and imagine lepers being healed and going to other lepers never going to guess what they're giving out yours today come over here and then go to swim tool and people they go. Hey, dude got no leg. Come on. They're giving out arms and legs to his arm and leg Wednesday today. Come on, come on over a blind people come here and see what Jesus that's funny. I can't see. Well if you'll just come he will touch your eyes and you couldn't what does it say he did. Dennis Fame it says went out through all Syria and they brought to him all the sick people who were Afflicted with various diseases and torments and those who are demon-possessed epileptics and paralytics. It says and he healed them so you just healing everybody who came to him. Why because that was validating who he was John did no Miracles whatsoever. He just Proclaim that one was coming. And when Jesus came he delivered and then everybody knew this thing the Box is open, you know, it was all out in the open here. This is the king of kings in the Lord of lords of East End again, why did he do it? Because he's God who were they they were the outcasts there was a downcast they were the Gentiles anybody who came, they weren't people of power. They weren't people of prestige. They weren't people that position. They were people with what great need and did Jesus meet the need. Absolutely and guess what? Is he still meeting needs today? Apple writes my God shall supply all of your needs to his riches and Glory that are in Christ Jesus if we'll do what come back to how we started it will come to him come boldly before the throne of grace. This isn't verse 25 McCloskey says great multitude followed him From Galilee from decopolis. Jerusalem, Judea and Beyond The Gorge when people traveled a great distance to get here and I think of Randy Anita name of all the way on the other side of town every year. I I I feel like I want it. I need to buy him a gas card and give me an award. It's like if there's great churches between here and there. Mmm, they make this track. And there's people you know that I mean literally were traveling days to come and see a move of God. I wonder sometimes how far would we go, you know.

Yeah, we hate. There's a service you could come, you know, Sunday. You can come Wednesday. You can come to the house and I'm busy. I live 1.2 miles away. I got stuff. And you go I'm watching you know, because again clothing ourselves. It's not going what somebody else is going to do. It's what has God called me to do his being available. That's the beauty of community. It's coming here you go, you believe this or not you go. There's people in this church that have me you don't have to go look along the freeway. You can come right here. And if we did what if we the reason we don't get involved is because what cuz if I know guess what that makes me responsible don't see you today as opposed to how are you doing? Is there anything I can do for you need any help? nchardak

and you go. Here's the call Jesus follow me said and I will make you become Fishers of Men. Your wine you go because the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and when our eyes are open to that those who sat in darkness. There came a great light our prayer today is God illuminate the darkness of my life illuminate those Pockets those areas that I know that are there and you know that they're there God there's there is my life. I'm not following you. And God I need to repent and I need to give those things to you. Let's do that this morning's because in prayer. You know what? The holy spirit is leading you to Christmas is a great time. It's not about what we get about what we give amen. Got to love this world he gave that's the beauty of Christmas. Maybe the beauty of our life this Christmas as well father. We thank you for your lovely. Thank you for your grace. Where we thank you for the privilege and the opportunity to have a mind today where we can repent where we can turn from ourselves and turn to the things of God. And so are we ask you today Lord as we hear your voice or long? So it is great time of some more shopping quick message and just getting us getting this ready to go home and be with our families that it's a great time sweet encourage you to be here and then that next to the 31st that they you guys did as above and beyond and I know that they are blessed to receive that and just to help out with the Cal Fire's and now he's got the Christmas project. There are needs all around how to see if you're out and about during the course of your day shopping. You'll find that you're going to run into a lot of people in need. So I pray today that the Lord speaks to us. If you have a Bible handy, I'm an invite you to open with me to Matthew's gospel chapter 4. We're in a series called fulfilled because obviously is Matthew wrote this text. He was right. To a predominantly Jewish audience and he was doing it with the Old Testament in mind to demonstrate that the promised Messiah would be the one who fulfilled all of the prophecies concerning him. And then he points to the fact that Jesus is the one who fulfilled all of those prophecies. So that's the title fulfilled and this morning we're going to be in chapter 4 verse 12 so mark that but then you're going to actually go to Hebrews chapter 4 this morning and that we're going to read that in just a moment. But before we even get there, we got a little bit of business to do this morning fits perfectly into a Jesus calling us. To follow him and he will make us become Fishers of Men or women you could say and that we have one of our own appalam onions going to be taking off and she's going to Romanian. So give her a warm welcome if she comes this morning we're going to pray for her.

If you don't know Paul, this is her and she is a spent the time at different parts of the world and the Lord placed on her heart a few months ago to go to Romania serve in an orphanage there. She's going to be gone about ten days and I think she will be back some of you have loved on her so much you thought she was leaving and not coming back and she just want you to know she love that you would do that, but she is coming back and you can love on her some more when she gets home button and her needs pretty much you guys have you have blessed her and she has been able to raise the necessary funds through our church and and that we have to go on this trip. One of the last things we were looking for was she needed some really good shoes to be able to go that she could walk long distance with so she got those so she has a warm sleeping bag. She's got warm socks. He's got warm shoes. She's got warm gloves all she needs today before she goes is a lot of warm hugs. Amen. And so you can love on her today, but we want to pray for her before she Also, if you just kind of stretch your hand for here, let's pray for Paula that God would just bless her and use her on this trip and father. We do. Thank you and celebrate Paula's life so much and just thank you for her faithfulness. Then it's not just going on trips around the world Lorde. She Faithfully weekend week out month in and month out is looking for Ministry opportunity right here in our city. She literally goes door-to-door does knocking on doors and and they're being available to to love people and to share the love of Christ. And so you keep opening up doors that no man can close and this one opened up and Romania and she's Faithfully walking through it and Lord you have provided the ability for her to go and ask the Lord today. We just to celebrate that then we just pray for her today that God you would just freshly anointer for the the task at hand that you pour out your spirit in abundance upon her that you remove any anxiousness and her life any worried Lord any fret that she might have and know that the is Larry was saying and worship that we don't celebrate the fan. Set the world you're with us the god that you're in us or what what's something that the disciples couldn't understand and comprehend that Lord. We know I'm not just a knowledge with my experience. Macy's sense your peace and your presents that lured her life and may we as our church family just be reminded to pray for her each day. And we look forward to see returns home to do exactly what your word tells us will happen. If she shares what went on that it will cause her to stir us to love and to good works. And so what made that happen may Jesus be glorified me the Kingdom of Heaven be expanded Lord through her and so we commend her to you today as unto a faithful God looking forward to having her home here safely. We just thank you and we bless you for her today as we pray in The Wonderful Name of Jesus. We all agreed saying amen. Amen. Thank you so much can give her the round of applause. Thank you, Paula.

And I if you have your Bible handy on by you to open it with me to it Hebrews chapter 4 and you could stand to your feet here this morning. Let's read this together in Hebrews chapter 4 verses 14 through 16 because so much of me know when you think about here. It is in Matthew's gospel and he's been been presented to know as this this coming King into the world born in Bethlehem by the Shepherds came and recognized his kingship by burying him gifts. We saw you don't chapter 3 where it was led of the Holy Spirit to be tempted by the devil and came out Victorious lie there and now he's heading off into his public Ministry that'll take about three and a half years of his life and yet at the same time, you know, we think if what if what if God would have just sent an angel and he did not send his son, you know, we celebrate Christmas and it's so easy for us to miss, you know, the true message in the meaning of Christmas. We sing Emmanuel, which means simply what God With Us. Show that God is with us and that God was with them there and again for many they missed it by that day. I pray that we don't miss it to you or the old expression. Why is men were seeking Jesus standing wise men and women still seek him now and that's why many of you were here today, but one of the things that's so important that we don't miss is that we have a God who understands sure this so many times from his Pulpit that we know we are broken people with anybody born into this world is broken. We are born into a sin-stained world and where we live around other broken people and it again Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and so when I think about his ministry his understanding, maybe you're here today and you're going through a hard time and around the holidays it can be so so tough and we want to pray for you going to pray for one another today that this would be a time where you would really grow in that knowledge of God's presence in your life that he really is the gift that keeps. I'm giving that he's here today and if you're struggling and anyway, Weatherby relationally or whether it be spiritually or emotionally or financially all these things that will see her in this text that we have a God that hearsay men and we have a God who heals and so I want to encourage you whatever those things that maybe make you feel distant today or that you're not sensing God's presence in your life. Pray for that today. Just pray for yourself today as we pray. So let's read this together and then we'll take a moment and pray and it says in Hebrews 4, it says seen then that we have a great high priest who is passed through the heavens Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our confession for we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but as we just studied was in all points tempted as we are yet without sin Let Us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find Grace to help. In time of need, I guess the big question this morning is do you recognize your need today? We all have need and to bring that need before the Lord. Let's do that as we open up father God. We thank you for your word and Lord. We thank you for an opportunity to gather is the church today your bride the one that you love so much that you gave your life for until Lord as we come before you we invite you by your Holy Spirit to minister to us Lord. We want to be conformed to the image of your son. And so are we agree or with your word in advance of the things that will believe in here that are taught today? May we say as your word does? Yes, and amen or to them that believe and Lord may we bring those needs that are in each of Our Lives before you before your glorious Throne on that throne of grace today that we don't Merit. Yes answers. We don't Merit answered prayers because of anything that we've done. But simply because of who you are and Lord we bless you for that today. We praise you for that and we look forward to all the you have for us and we pray for one another or we don't come just for ourselves. But Lord we come to minister your life and your love to stir each other up to love and to Good Works. We don't know what our friends are going on around us. We don't know all the things that are transpiring in their life the Lord you do it. So we asked on behalf of our friends that maybe don't even have the energy to pray for themselves today. Maybe they're so stressed out from this holiday season God we lift them to you or may they feel your presence we pray for the peace of God that surpasses understanding and me met a rule all of our hearts today in Christ Jesus. We pray these things for your glory and for our good in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. You can be seated. So, you know, you you look at this this text her this morning. And a Jesus obviously picks up where John left off. He was a John was the Forerunner. He was stirring the hearts of the people and then Jesus comes on the scene here. I always have to laugh when I read verse 12 cuz it says now and Matthew 4 verse 12, it says now when Jesus heard that John had been put into prison says he left. Think about that imagineer John here. He John's the Forerunner rights. He's believing that Jesus is coming and Jesus is going to stablish his kingdom, you know, he's going to kick the Romans out and he's going to stay. I was Jewish Authority again in Jerusalem until he's out there with boldness, right? He's proclaiming your the kingdom is coming then he looks and he sees Jesus says Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. I mean, he's got it he's got it going on at that was good. It was good. It was annoying. You know what happens what happens when you get really bold for Jesus and in an area where people aren't really too much into Jesus. What happens to you? What happened to John? They tried to what shut up the message that doesn't stop the messenger and see what they do. They threw John in the prison. How many going to watch to go to Mint Adventure flick like Adventure flick or are you like romance and see if there's a good romantic movie? Kilduff the woman gets taken captive, right and then then the hero or the heroine whatever you want comes to the rescue right. That's what makes it exciting. Can't imagine John here. He's waiting for Jesus to post bail. Right? I mean, he's he's young living for Jesus. He's out there is making it happen. He's Proclaim that he's not backing down from anybody, right? They come along. They throw him in jail. What do you think? He's coming? He's coming. He's not coming. Jesus departed for Galilee About you but you know, I've discovered in my own spiritual journey. There's just things I don't understand about God and I alone in that that you're doing something you're going along and it just seems like it's all going the way that you think it's supposed to go and then Jesus departs for Galilee you just going I don't get it. I was in the words of Isaiah the prophet start to go through your mind to his ways or what. High above our ways are beyond what knowing you put yourself into you feel with John. You must be going through here. What is John pray? Yo John Price. I must what decrease that what that Jesus might what increase right? It's a wonderful prayer until what you get held to it. You're at a prayer like that. You pray your prayer and you Nelson. It's like and I'm going to hold you to that. That's why the scriptures tell us better to what not make of Alden to make a vowel Loosely know it's good but he's he's like us he's human. He's going to start sending him questions to Jesus like Jesus. Are you really the one I'm in prison? If you haven't you haven't freed me know and it's one of those things where in any of our lives, so I want to start with Hebrew. Doctor for does Jesus himself was tempted and all points scripture says just like we are without sin. There is someone I want you to understand today the church that whether you understand him isn't the issue but he understands you and he cares about you. He loves you and he's there for you. And as we study as word things will begin to make more and more sense. And so Jesus the parts to to Galilee and it's really interesting because if you watch this, you know, we know that he was born of the spirit important if you're going to be used of God to be born of the spirit. We know that Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. We saw that when the Holy Spirit descended and then landed on him as like a dove we know that he was he was led by the Holy Spirit Into the Wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And now we see that he's driven again. He's he's driven by the Holy Spirit and all of the things that he would do so so important that we have that relationship with the holy spirit because there's going to A time where again we're going to question. You know, we're going to question your God's working in our life. Here is Jesus in Nazareth and what's happened? They're not listening to him. John says that he came to his own and his own. What does they knew him? Not imagine how deflating that would be. He knew who he was he knew what he came to do, but they didn't receive a massage. Matthew's gospel tells us in Chapter 13 57 says so they were offended at him. This was the Jewish leaders who are the people of the city it says, but Jesus said to them a prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house when you go so sad. So true and so what does Jesus do? He dusted shoes the same thing that's his hand and he goes on to the next place next place that the Lord would have him go. So he heads up to the Galilee area here. And then again, this is a humbling thing. I want you to understand your you read the book of Philippians and it says you don't chapter 2 it says that Jesus humbled himself to the point of becoming a man. What are the to be born into this world was very humbling that God took on human flesh, but he didn't just that he came to this world. He didn't go into Jerusalem. It says you don't in the Christmas story. Where was Jesus born old little town of Bethlehem be like we got a little town of Oildale. If you're from there are not going to mean anything negative about that. It's just the fact that you go. It's not on anybody's radar, you know, or just say, how about O Little Town of Derby Acres, maybe that's in our destiny curse. If you're out there someplace out there, you know, and you know, and here's Jesus now going into the galley. This is predominantly a gentile area. There's a few synagogues that are around there in Jesus. Every time that he will go into these different. There's probably two hundred Little Village is there there's Matt about is estimated at the time to see if it says about 2 million people living in the area. If you got to kind of picture it like Arvin Lamont, Bakersfield, Oildale, you know shafter-wasco Lamont Delano Taft, you know, Dustin Acres New Valley Acres Derby acres and Green Acres, wherever that you don't know what all those places out there and you go and he literally Jesus is going from Village to Village from place to place. He's preaching and he's teaching he's doing more than what John was doing. John was preaching he was preparing. That's really what preaching does he was calling people to repentance and then Jesus was teaching on top of that. He was nurturing he was in Trucking he was informing them. It was bringing about that changed putting you might say the steps in 02 at their looks chapter 4 tells us you know, what Jesus was doing when he would go into the synagogue. Very first sermon, you know that he preached in the end. It's a beautiful one for my dad says in Luke 4 17 through 19. It says that he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah and we need to open the book. He found the place where was written. The spirit of the Lord is upon me already know that right. We studied at Matthew's gospel just because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted. So you think about life today? Why was Jesus sent into this world? He wasn't Center to tell Sam he's going to hell he came again so that everybody could go to heaven. He came to bring the fullness into a broken World send members. I've been sharing with you wherever there was sind what is right on the heels of sin death. And it came you might say to reverse the curse is what Jesus came to do. We came to give life and life to the fullest. It says the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he's anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent me to heal the broken hearted Proclaim Liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind to set at Liberty those who are oppressed to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord member then he closed the book and he sat down he said today this scripture has been fulfilled in your midst. So powerful. So so profound hear Jesus the light of the world that came to bring light to Darkness. That's what he's going to do as he heads up there into the Galilean region the feeling. No John's word remember in John chapter 1 verse 6 through 13. It says there was a man sent from God his name was John this man came for a witness to Bear witness of the wife that all through him might believe so again, John is preaching right and he's telling us that this one is coming says but he was not the light but he was sent to Bear witness that the life that was the True Light which gives life to every man coming into the world. He speaking of Jesus here does he was in the world and the world was made through him and the world did not know him. He came to his own and his own did not receive him until we're seeing that she's what's happening. He said he keeps moving he's going to those people who open their hearts to help people just like you and I a gentile is a non-jewish person. So he's in the midst of a Jewish read non-jewish region near as he goes up into the galley just been as many as received him to them. He gave the right to become children of God to those who believe in his name who are born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor the will of man. But of God, you could say they were born again. They were born of the spirit Zone verse 13 and Matthew Ford says then leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in capernium which is by the sea in the regions of zebulun and naphtali capernum there. It means Village of Mayhem and it's a little fishing Village there probably about fifteen hundred people are so in Jesus day and this would become Jesus headquarters. You got to think about this King of Kings Lord of lords and his headquarters is going to be in the region of the Galilee in the north. Are you at the pain you're going Wow of all the places not in Jerusalem. Osorno. He will establish his throne in Jerusalem one day but not for now. If so for three and a half years. This is where Jesus will be doing his greatest work and you go why because it's where people are who are predominantly Gentiles. They were outcasts. They are down cast. I mean, they are the sick they are the lame. This is the lowest of the lows and it's where Jesus does his best work when you hit rock bottom. That's when you find out Jesus is Rock Solid and that's where he's at. He's at the Rock Bottom. You might say verse 14 through 16 is actually in verses 15 and 16. He's quoting Isaiah the prophet there and Isaiah chapter 9 verses 1 and 2. You don't need to go there because it actually has it in verse 15 and 16. He says that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying the land of zebulun and the land of math. Do I buy the way of the sea beyond the Jordan the Galilee of the Gentiles the people who know they were just walking in darkness as they sat. In darkness having seen a great light. They were living in darkness and says and upon those who sat in the region in the shadow of death. Now the shadow of death refers to the area there. If you ever had the privilege to go to of the Sea of Galilee you go up to the north are it'll actually go over into Syria and the very top of that Ridge. There is the go on Heights. It's where many of the wars took place and why it's called that it's called the shadow of death because of all the battles there and it says that Allied has gone there. It's also in Jesus day. It was a major major Caravan route that brought Mesopotamia and Egypt together. There was a connection kind of like you look at Bakersfield before i v i was built 99 came right to the heart of Bakersfield, right? And then you had 58. So we were like this Hub and also being a hub we weren't Los Angeles we weren't San Francisco. Okay, so we were the armpit people said of Bentley General watched. Watch Johnny Carson when he used to make fun of Bakersfield all the time, you're going through Bakersfield one time on a tow truck. Got hit by a tumbleweed almost wiped my car out had to stop and get gas one time. I tried to get a soda, but they were all out. You know, what is just there always feel poking fun, you know Baker. So will this have been just like where Jesus is ministering there in the Galilean region intersection people are traveling through the with nobody's staying. It's the place. We we I was I was there one time I I used to travel around when I worked in the beverage industry, and I'd be in other parts of the country. Take away. Are you from and bench? I just I'm just going to tell you a coward. I just had Central, California. Cuz I'd say Bakersfield and they'd laugh at me later, you know your car breaks down or you know, they always know that place where like there's a recall like every year by call your farming, you know, like watermelons are tainted, you know and stuff and you got these flies that eat everything and honest like really that's it and you go but this is exactly what you know, you think that's yours. Jesus king of kings and Lord of lords. And here he is in the galley. He's having to deal with the same same kind of stuff verse 17 goes on. It says I'm from their time because Jesus began to preach and the say repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand now, I remember what is repentance the 180 right? It's going from this is specific. It's going from your way and my way of thinking your way of doing in my way of doing two, God's way of thinking and God's way of doing it's not just going to need to go a different direction. It's not negative at all. Those signs you repent or you don't go to hell. It isn't that isn't what it's saying it all it's a positive thing. It's an invitation. You don't have to go that direction everything about you know, what makes hell hell is Jesus isn't there right? What makes heaven heaven is Jesus is there is no repentance is turn your life to the things of God. Turn your life upside down turn your life inside out for the things of God. That's the invitation know what I love about. This is John started it. Okay, John first began preaching repentance. Okay, and then Jesus says what he takes the Baton cuz John's in prison, I love with Jon courson would say it say if it's true. It's not new and if it's new it's not true. And so Jesus isn't changing the message. Your Jesus is simply proclaiming the same message that John is he's just now John did no Miracles whatsoever. It was just pure Proclamation. Jesus is the Fulfillment of it. He's actually doing the miraculous things. Jesus said if you can't believe the words I speak believe the words I do because the things that I do or just simply the things that I say because I basically what I talked to talk and I walk the walk late they all match up and it's a wonderful thing and so here's Jesus, you know on the scene is going I want you to repent I want you to turn to the things of God and he says if you'll do that, I will make you become a fisher of men when it's it's amazing. You know when you start looking at this because you think about sharing the gospel, there's many people and I've met him I've been that way myself you're oriented to people and I know working doing business in particular you're oriented to people but you're not oriented to the gospel you you might go ahead and love people but I struggle with sharing the gospel. Then you have people that love to share the gospel, but they're not oriented to people But I just called him with the scripture, you know, it's like that but Jesus was perfect in all of his ways and he wants us to have that balance life. He wants us to be oriented to people and oriented to the gospel as well. Then we have to understand is repentance comes at a cost that and that's where I think sometimes we miss it. There is a cost to repentance because it really is a downward Mobility. You have to understand, you know, Peter and James and John and Andrew when they were fishermen know that they were they were good fisherman. They owned a business. They were literally in their business. They know Jesus for over a year don't get lost in the time was my new boat, you know, when they're out there fishing and just some guy walks by you know, I can, you know Forrest Gump or something in the movie follow me and it just goes okay cuz you know, they'd already known and they'd already had a connection for a year. They've heard the stories they've been able to weigh it out because that's how the Holy Spirit Works in our life. Most people don't respond. Same-day, the seed gets planted Paul says one Waters within the Holy Spirit starts to do work and says and what God gives the increase in 1st Corinthians chapter 3, that's what he does. So it's homework, so we're here to water. We're here to plant and all the sudden what happens same thing that happens for Jesus the light comes on and man when the light comes on and that's what we need to be praying and so here he calls them you to himself and you think about you their prayer becomes the same as John the Baptist prayer. I must went decrease that he might increase there's always a cost at discipleship and it's going to cost us, you know time money everything else again, cuz you know how it is, especially this time of year. Have you noticed around Christmas time? There's people with more need You go out and go shopping and they're not anymore just going you know, hey will work for food know they're going now. I'm here. I've got to sign and it says I'm starving my wife and three kids, you know, and please help. They're just asking for help anything, you know, they're not even the old signs like that and I didn't hire me or they're not even going don't even hire me. I didn't have a skill. I just need help. I just need you to do something and you know, what, we we can become so religious and I include myself in this okay, because it's there's a cost to discipleship. There's a cost to repentance. There's a cost of me going Lord. I'm not going to live for myself any longer because that means I'm going to have to stop that means I'm going to have to get involved that means you know, what that mouth do. I understand Jewish law. Yeah do understand, you know, when the Jews when hey we'll go one mile with you and then they go mom and put a marker in the ground. We don't have to go a mile further naked field good under the law about themselves. And what did Jesus say when he was walking with the disciples? Tell the mile marker that a Jude put in the ground to help his fellow Jew. He saw that Mark on the ground and they looked at me when Jesus said you you guys my disciples. He goes you go the extra mile play Imagine him Jesus goes again that Jesus sent him away. They're tired number the mole two dudes game. They were hungry and he's just told him what he said you guys go to town and get him some food.

retired retired Eagles have you discovered that when you live a life of repentance where you go God my life's not my own. I mean I get it. It's a verse of scripture, you know, like Paul would say no the life that I now live. I live by faith in the Son of God of love me and gave himself for me. My life's not my own I say that but how much is that's really really really true cuz there's a multitude of people here that are following. We know that it anytime in a church. There's a multitude of people who are following but if key is how close are they falling because Jesus had the three right Peter James and John many of the 12 then he had the 70 then he had the multitude. Okay, there's there's different levels to the intimacy that we can enjoy with God. He doesn't force that upon us. There's an invitation to all how deep do we want to go in our walk with God. There's invitation says no, Follow me and I will make you it's not what you do for God's not what I do. It's what God can do in a three-way Richard that UniFirst service and worship. It's like it isn't that he's just we do celebrate this WOW Emmanuel God what with us, but the cross brings even a greater Revelation Christ in you the hope of glory. He's not just with us churches in us to lead us to guide us to empower us to give us the strength to live a Victorious Life That's please do not only to God but to ourselves as well. I mean it's so exciting about this is that in Jesus day member of the Apostle Paul. He said he studied under Gamaliel. Remember him Emilio was like, you know be like going to Harvard Theological Seminary you known in his day. I mean if you studied under Gamaliel you were somebody impulsive. I know I spelled into Camilia boiron know they'd a tribe. And you know that I received his credentials for nothing will Jesus and get this? He's no he doesn't have people coming to him and get this dick about people going in Jesus, you know, can we can we follow you cuz you know why? Cuz he was trying to figure it out the longer. He knew he walked they were going deeper trying to kill him you hang around Jesus. There's a good chance what you're going to die. What is Jesus going to the people? And he's the only Rabbi doing this he's going you you you you what follow me. There's an invitation you go out and it's an invitation. What often times was to die is a guy hang out with me like John John's when I'm with you because next thing you know I speak for God and he's in prison. People go that don't know if I like that some people are going to die. They're going to die by being associated with him what we know all of the Apostles. They all died what Martyrs deaths and again, but they didn't count that as a loss they counted as a game because what they connected them to Jesus it was something that you know again that was a badge of honor you might say yours Jesus, you know pursuing the followers. You might say he's seeking you he's seeking me She wants you he wants me. That's what repentance is. He wants you and I to trade our life or his there's something you and I are holding on today that God said I want you to repent up. I want you to to give up. I want you to give it to me because I have something more for you. I hasn't seen nor ear heard or is it ended in the heart of man? The things which God has prepared for them that love of a man from India. That's like the little girl who have the dime store store pearls and she would never give them to her dad and he kept every night and I'm praying with her needs a Honeygo you give Dad your pearls and she loved him so much as know Daddy now you can have them this went on for days on end and finally one day. He just quit asking me just prayed for his daughter's, you know, honey, you know Daddy loves you, right cuz you kissed on the forehead and start heading for the door to his daddy. Was there any news I have something for you. She walks back over and she opens up her hand gives him these little cheap Neil Diamond store pearls he reaches into his pocket. He pulls out no real. String of pearls are worth a lot of money and he has returned. She's looking she's she doesn't understand. He said honey. You said Daddy had so much more for you and he said but I had to let it be your choice. I had to let you choose to give up those Dime Store pearls that you're holding onto so that you can have these pearls that mommy and daddy wanted you to have and you have these rest of your life and whether she could appreciate it that day or not. It's the it's the heart of God you and I can't hold on to things of this world so much and God is just trying to pry or fingers open because he has so much more than he wants and that's where the call of repentance comes in to trade in. What were holding onto for all that he has that's why he's proclaiming the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand over 20 x 20 32 times. I think it mentions the Kingdom of Heaven in Matthew's gospel. I think it's only five times he mentioned in the kingdom of God and their interchangeable, but there was something deliver because the We're looking for the established kingdom of God amongst of a literal physical Kingdom. That would be established. The Romans would be thrown out. The Jews would be ushered in John would be there part of it. All the disciples to be with it. And Jesus is going know. That's what he's setting us up for as we get into them in. The next week's talking about The Sermon on the Mount in the Beatitudes that there's a different Constitution now, we're into the Kingdom of Heaven. We're under a whole different set of rules. No not the things of this world. We need to not look around at each other. We need to look up that's the invitation that he makes any mix to each and everyone of us.

Colossians chapter 3 I want you to turn there with me really quick, you know because again one of the things that's interesting, you know about this, you know, Jesus has made an invitation that we follow him. You know, what does it look like to follow Jesus never really asked yourself that what does it look like or what would you look like? What would I look like when I was sharing this first service, you know, usually they'll be a Sunday, you know where the Patriots are playing and Tim pool and I'll come walking in these got on his his you know, New England Patriots, New Jersey or Joe are sound guys got on a San Francisco 49er one. He hides in the back because they're losing but the but Tim comes to the front so everybody can see it's just the same way. You can identify what people identify with right by the things they were now somebody came walking into the church and they had a big block of cheese on their head. You know, what would you think? Wisconsin you think they'll probably like cheese or they like the Green Bay Packers? Yeah, and you go and you still might and if you don't know anything about either going honey, we are not coming back here these people wear cheese on their heads. There's something terribly wrong, but that's what religion does religion looks for some external identity it if if if we were of the Muslim faith today, could we dress in a guard that people would I am pretty much readily identify that we were of the Muslim faith. How about if we were if we were cheeks and then we would actually have some type of headdress or if you were a Buddhist monk, you know, you got this really cool looking orange jumpsuit do nothing that you could wear mean. It really takes away all the headache and heartache and get ready for church. I mean you think about all these things you go, but what does a Christian wear? What are we supposed to look like? They look around? No, seriously look around really quick cuz this is exactly the look around what you look around. Look at each other or some good looking people in the building are what you doing.

Average looking at you. I don't know what what do we look like and you going to run Paul is going to dress this little Jesus is going to follow me and I'll make you become it isn't something that you do yourself. It's something God does two years. We've been sharing this the weeks passed as we abide in him as you draw close to him and he draws close to you this transformation begins to take place and ends. It's really cool. And you take a look at them Colossians 3 12 through 14. I'm reading from the NIV translation. Terry says put on then as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved. Here's what he says heartfelt compassion. So you might write that down. These are the things you ever going to close our self just like we're going to be recognized of someone who's falling a football team here, you're following, you know a certain religion, whatever it is. If you're following Christ D should be the things that should be evident in our life. You can't make these happen. Galatians 5 says there a byproduct of our relationship with the Lord as you just draw close to him. He who began a good work in you is where it says what is faithful to complete it. So the kids going but I Surrender Lord I Repent I'm turning for myself. I'm forsaking myself and I'm giving myself over to you and to the things of God so that you can do your work in me such as heartfelt compassion kindness humility gentleness patience bearing with one another forgiving one another if one has a grievance against another as the Lord has forgiven you so must you also do and over and above all these things put on love. This is the bond of perfection. So he's telling us these are the things we should close our cells with he starts with compassion here now, you don't hear some of your translation Simon Says. Use the word bowels for compassion there. You know what we say to someone I love you with all my heart K9 at the translation. So, you know the literal, you know King James, you know, you going to go all the way back. This is what you should say when you want to say to your wife isn't there your husband this is what island are you on Valentine's Day? Look them in the eye and say honey. I love you with all of my bow.

It just doesn't have the same weight that mean they actually it's kind of gross when you think about yes. I know you. I know you love me with all your brows. I wish you would stop you know, that that's kind of how it goes today. But again you think about the initial response is what its compassion compassion towards other people. This is what Jesus is expressing hear. Jesus is going to people who are in darkness then again, so as a definition of compassion, what is he doing? He's chosen to feel what other people are feeling regardless of how they feel about him. He's chosen to feel what they feel regardless of how they feel about him. Is that what he did? Absolutely he identifies with her. That's why I started with Hebrews chapter 4. We have a high priest that understands our weaknesses because he's human 100% God 100% human. He's suffered through everything that will ever suffer through his tempted with everything. They were were tempted with and he's going if we're going to follow him compassion. Play first on the list are about kindness video about kindness. You know, what it was that mean when someone's kind do they give something usually to you write a do something for you. They give their strength of whatever it is in their life. They give that or they offer that to you. And when they do we respond to them that was kind of them Jesus exemplifies kindness to us. He loans are something that we don't possess ourselves. And so do you look at the word humility there and again humility is not that difficult to to measure out here make Jesus humbled himself to the point of becoming a man but humility is seeing yourself through the same lens game that God sees you through it's coming to terms with yourself. You don't deceive the way that you really are again. You know who we are here at church and at what is the word hypocrite meme means to wear a mask, right? Then there swarms of hypocrisy in all of our Lives. We present ourselves to be in a certain things to certain people because it hopes that they know they would accept us and stuff but that's not who we really are. I love the expression says you are who you are when nobody is looking that's who you really are when nobody's looking there's nobody around but here to exercise to Melody is to see how accurately you might say your relationship to God and to other people because it isn't in the true sense church. Is there any difference between any of us here before God? He loves us all the same whether we love him back, you know, it's one of the ones of the benefactors if we love him in return, but it doesn't change his love for us. It doesn't change his desire for us. We're no better than anyone else. Are we safe because of what we've done or we saved because of what he did that for by Grace you have been saved through faith gentleness. This is interesting. You think about this it it's it's a decision. It's a conscious decision that we make to respond to others in light of other strengths and weaknesses. You might say that we meet them on their level instead of our level how many teacher children's ministry you're in the nursery or in Sunday school class is okay. See you walk in there and you know, it's about preferring others better than ourselves, right you're saying to them my relationship with you is more important. You are more important than me in the in the relationship. You're you're you're elevating them over yourself. You're not going in there trying to get them to be in. Fast with who you are you want them to know that you're impressed with who they are and again and gentleness you don't you think about that? So if you're teaching a Sunday school class you would walk into like, you know, say a business meeting stuff you walk in everybody's just making a bunch of noise, but I may have your attention. Thanks. Okay, we're going to have a meeting here shortly to get this thing over with cuz I know holidays you guys want to get back on the road. You know, I want to get on the road to so let's go over some things just point number one that I'd better. Come on guys tracking with me. It's too much eggnog. I can see it when you go. Okay. I give there done. They're being firm in her being direct you but they're being to the point. They're getting through it you teach your children Sunday school class in your thing. You know, what are you doing? Hi. Okay. We're going to sing some songs to Jesus. OK every Johnny Johnny. Johnny look at me Johnny Johnny K. We're going to sing Johnny. Okay, Sammy Sammy know where to see.

Trump press

sit right here. Sammy. Come here Sammy. We adjust downward for what for the benefit of other people that that's what we're doing here. And this is what Jesus did Jesus not do that for me. And you the god of Heaven. Could you just take the air out of his lungs sounded to me? Let me friend. You're teaching a Sunday school class. Like you have the power of God, you know we go right now to slay him in the spirit drop him like a bad habit right there on the ground you go you feel that you yeah. Alright pay attention.

Don't tell me you know that you wouldn't like to have super Jesus powers or just a moment. Just you know in your life. It would be really awesome to be able to do that patients. I hate this one. I've been convicted over all week long over this matter fact, we're just going to skip it cuz I don't even want to talk about it hurts so bad Patience by definition.

It's choosing to go at the speed of other people. I told you it would hurt choosing to go at the speed of other people being patient is God patient with us an come up Darren with one. Another. That means to bear with one another.

Put up with him know that that's what God has called us in the body of Christ to do because this got put up with me and you everything about this. He does he put up with me and you and you go. Yes, he's going to want to be my disciples when you don't want it. Then you need to repent because you don't put up with people very well when when people bug you what are you? Do you know your phone ringing voicemail? Yes. Yes. I called you you did. Country kept going to voicemail. That's what they created for. I was busy. What were you doing? What does it matter? I was busy being selfish. I was doing what I wanted to do, which was nothing. Oh, you had a need call somebody who cares cuz they obviously wasn't me. You know, that's doesn't always say it out loud you go to exactly how about forgiving. Forgiveness is great. Right, we all believe it until what you have to put it into practice forgiving one another will he didn't say that forgiving one another as Christ has what forgiving you how many times have you gone to God and ask for forgiveness once Twice just to see what it was like, you know, like the most interesting man in the in the world, you know? Yeah, I seen once just so that I could feel what other people felt. Yeah, no constantly Seventy Times Seven in a single day. And what is God do you graciously received as he goes That's what I'm calling you to repent repent to do 180 and quit living and doing the things that you desire to do. This is how I want you to live for me. That's what we learned about your in the weeks ahead as we go through The Sermon on the Mount of the Beatitudes. It's living under a new constitution. See that's what he saying. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. That's what he wanted to know because he quit looking around you need to look up that there's something better here in it and it's so beautiful because it goes on Isis and put on love Carol dissolves plan something out because Mike's use you know, what the beauty of it as you tie it all together scripture does with the word love agape love love of Choice One Way love not expecting anything in return. Do you think most of us, you know, yeah, we don't have one way love it's given take you know, we we don't want to say that but in the true sense it is, you know, you love me. I love you. You don't love me either friend you get off me off my Facebook interests. You're out of my life you're done, you know and you can't she said, you know, it's beautiful. She should look at all these boxes because that's what they would be. She goes what what made them presents is when there was a bow tied onto another wise it would just be a box and it's love that ties it all together and it's such a beautiful thing because God is love and so it's against wrapping it all up tying it all together with love nieces put on all these things that says you think about this today. Is it compassion? Is it kindness is it humility as a gentleness? Is it patience is it forgiveness isn't love because these are the things that he's called us to follow him in. These are the you could say the demarcations of what it is to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Now, you know who said this it was the Apostle Paul. Now, let me ask you something was the Apostle Paul always patient was always loving a contract right? He's a murderer he's going to mask is 300 miles away from Jerusalem Dragon Christians back to be put on trial to be killed. But what happened to him, he was born of the spirit. He was filled with the spirit like Jesus. He was lead of the Holy Spirit ultimately was driven by the Holy Spirit. We cannot underestimate the power of God's spirit in our life. We need it desperately. Jesus is what I want people to know that you're my father, but they're only going to know you said a new commandment. I give to you love one another as I have loved you and you can we can't do that.

And you know when you might be her today, you know that and I love this, you know, because the last these things, you know are noticeable, you know, when your life the better it'll become you know, as you begin to walk in the spirit to be like a little boy went to summer camp that you know, he was stealing everybody's candy, you know, they'd hide of neon beer with the children's news camper Sunday either candy under their pillow. I don't know why it's always there and steal the candy cheat their bad to tie their shoe strings together when they were sleeping on during the nap and then get up and you'll do a face-plant on the ground and he was just tormenting his cabin one day the speaker got a hold of him. Something was said by God to that speaker and he went while you know what I need to repair and I need to change the sneaks back to his little cabin and he goes to remix all the beds of all the boys are in his bunk. He puts candy you can be replaced all the candy that is stolen from them even clean their shoes and he said them by their bed and so he got caught by his counselor. He came in me, so I'm doing it and so they said around all the boy. Why isn't there doing their quiet time that night and the counselors tell me since you know that Johnny got really spoke to his heart started tell him all the things that that Johnny was doing and all the little boys 7 8 9 years old and looked at Johnny may said this to almost in unison. They said who are you and what have you done with Johnny and they'll say that about us as well because there's certain patterns in our life and all the sudden we began to understand that he who began this good work in you is what thankful to complete it that you accept the invitation of God. He said to Peter and James and John Henry talk to fishermen who are good at fishing. He said listen, I'll take what you're naturally good at and I'll change it all alternative something that you turtle that has a different perspective. I will make you become Fishers of Men something that has an eternal weight and eternal Valley every one of us are Church God's not going to quit your job and go. Do this and you could be used super naturally right where you're at? If we would choose to follow Jesus if we say Lord I Repent I'm not going to do it my way any longer. I'm going to do it your way. And as I wake up everyday, I'm going Lord knows I'm sure last week you you don't sin is not my master. By the way, how many you tried that this last week that you got tempted you were in a place and then you just get remind yourself sin is not my master is almost like a just resets the clock you go. That's right. I'm a New Creation in Christ old things are passed away behold. All things have become new and you go now walking in that freedom in that Liberty in Jesus Christ verses 18 19. It says Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee saw two brothers Simon called Peter and Andrews brother casting the net into the sea and they were fishermen and he said to them follow me and I will make you you want to highlight that follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men. Taking what we do naturally and causing us to do it super naturally.

You don't think about this dude that did the change happen overnight. Let me ask you this. How many are right on schedule with Jesus? That are mean he is just I mean you feel like you know, they walk them for three and a half years right from the time. He called them to the time you went to the cross. I mean, can you see if tremendous amount of progress in each of their lives at the end and a three and a half years? We have Jesus in the garden. He's about ready to be arrested. Right the soldiers come to arrest Jesus Peters there. What is Peter do reaches in packs off a guy's ear? Three flip running. I'm not saying that's very loving three and a half years. Jesus looking pier three and a half years. I've been with you and you hack the guy's ear off really they going to Samara James and John know they don't they don't receive the message of Jesus. So, what did what did James and John do they go to Jesus to Jews? We had questioned people here not really up on the gospel message. What do you say we call down fire from heaven just for tomorrow.

I just want you to know I feel good today. There's Hope for me Dog walkers in literally day by day for three and a half years. This is what they're doing at the end of his ministry imagines. He's going to rethink this. I'm getting ready to leave and this is as good as it gets geez Louise now the Holy Spirit hadn't been yet given we can't underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit and our life. So so important verse 20 and says, they immediately left their Nets and followed him going from there. You saw two brothers James the son of Zebedee and John is brother in the boat was Zebedee their father mending their net. So he calls not only does he call evangelist but he also called guys that are good at mending Nets John know was was was a lover. He was a pastor that regard. Peter man is out there for claiming he's cutting off people's ears Johnson 11 on people. There's there's a place for for everybody to be transformed by Jesus. They followed him doesn't Jesus went about all of Galilee. Look what he did teach you in their synagogues. That's where you went. First. Go in this there's something in this church go naturally were God's calling you to go go to your workplace tomorrow go to the grocery store where you normally shop go get gas for you. Normally get gas. I do have a hot mess right? I don't know. Where should we go? What year was Jesus when you were following him? Where did he go? He would have shown up in a synagogue you. kiss marry a synagogue You said it's Saturday? That's what we do. What we've always done. Spiritual, you know, naturally Supernatural go about your business God. Is there anybody here that you want me to talk to? Is there anybody here and it's hurting matter fact, I think of it before we went today and you really felt like somebody was going to listen to you. I bet there's a few people in the sanctuary today. Did you go you know what I'm hurting? You don't have to go to the grocery store. You have to go to your place of work. You can turn around if we really had that kind of hard when that hard to God's develop instead of hey just know can we do that for me? And you want hey what's really going on you? Okay. Because you know if I do that, you know, it's going to happen.

My Sunday isn't going to go the way that you know Sun is going to go. Where's my nap? Tell where's my snack? No, no cookie sit out in. Oh. It's gone. You go, but it's not exactly what Jesus did look what it says and he went about all all Galilee. He went to Arvin. He went to Lamont. He went to Bakersfield. You went to Edison. You went to Derby Acres Dustin Acres Valley Acres Taft, Maricopa Delano. No McFarland Wasco Shafter all the points in between. Don't what ministering to people that nobody else cared to minister to use on the highways and the byways wasn't at the religious Center was there in Jerusalem they would receive and they wouldn't accept his message. But that doesn't that doesn't diminish the message. There's people who are willing to hear it that people that need to hear it and if we don't go who will And so he said preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all kinds of sickness and all his all kinds of disease 200 small villages in Josephus isn't that day scattered abroad probably 2 million people in that are either Jesus is going around that he's preaching the Good News of the Gospel. You know what he's telling him and guys, there's a book called Revelation one day. There's coming No More Tears no more sorrow no more pain no more suffering no more dying and approve it go get your lame. So they brought leopards don't you think about this for a second? They brought lepers and they were at the end scripture says that there leprosy and you know what that means when they're at the end of their leprosy that means that body parts were falling off. Fingers were falling off noses were falling off. I mean you think it's gross me think about that, but you're going hey bran imagine that all said they bring a leopard to Jesus Migos.

No, no, honey. I'm leaving their yo. This is a disease that is incurable. Jesus is causing the whole. Imagine how people left there that day. They're going around there. Like let's go get Bob Bob Bob. Hey, we need you to come to Jesus and he can heal. Your is Bob's Gun? I don't have a leg. It's Tuesday Monday Tuesday Monday. Come on, come on over cuz he got my way right now. He's doing funny. I can't see it doesn't matter. If you can't say come here and touch your eyes and you'll see what are you doing? He caused him to see it's almost like you're The Wizard of Oz hey, you know, you don't have a brain because of wisdom. Nebraska movie that's what he did and what it is validated the message that if Jesus could heal then Jesus could do the ultimate. What's the ultimate that he could save us from our sin? That we could have eternal life in God. That's why I constantly going to seem going easier to say you're healed or you know, your sins are forgiven you go so that you know that I'm both. God and savior Lord, I'm everything be healed and go and sin no more. He did it. He did he validated the message Matthews on his own. There's no way for them to get to the end of this not go. He's the king of kings and Lord of lords. He's the promised Messiah and we have and if you have that Revelation today, you have that truth within you that people guess what? I know that the world making us think that they don't want to hear it, but there is a lost world out there. So it's not going to be Hollywood that wants to hear it. It's not going to be the people at the highest place is with him. Tell me what there's two hundred thousand people out there in remote Villages and highways and byways along the way if you and I would stop and we would show compassion and we would show kindness and we would show gentleness and we'd be patient with them and we would show them God's love because there's an old expression church that says I don't care how much you know until I know how much you care and we have an opportunity at Christmas time. All throughout the year, but right now these are those pointed moments because everything is focusing in on that savior being born into this world. We can miss the moment or we can make the most of it and I hope that we make the most of it and it concludes he says and then his Fame went throughout all summer and they brought him all the sick people who are afflicted with various diseases and torment that could be us today that are here and those who are demon-possessed epileptics and paralytics in the healed them. When you think about that? Chisholm great multitude followed him From Galilee and from decopolis Jerusalem today and Beyond the Jordan, I mean think about you rolling and Carlo they come all the way from Frazier Park. every Sunday no, it's 5 minutes to church is going to be a church closer.

Three stop lights in a patient's what do you mean they came and they have Fellowship they served against the book of Acts says they they distributed is each one had need and what did God do he added to the church? You know, we don't have to worry about starting out there reason to start right in here. We need to slow the pace long enough and go. You know, what do you have need today? Are you hurting today? What can I do to serve you how can I show compassion today? How can I show kindness to the how can I show gentleness today? How can I show you know the patience of God today? How can I demonstrate God's love to one another and then watch what God does and then take it from here to wherever God leads you to go. I'll tell you what if we do that. It'll be the best Christmas yet a man that spray father. We thank you for your word and where we pray that Lord as we go from this place today that or we would go in the power of your spirit just as John the Baptist winning the power of Elijah or we have something greater. We get to go in the power of Jesus name. Good Lord. Thank you. Not just in your name, but the power that raised you from the dead Works mightily in us and so we can be in tune with you. We can be in touch with you Lord. We can go to the exact people that God you would lead us to and I pray that that happens Lord in abundance over these holiday seasons at it just creates a greater sense of joy that we would be singing more than a song Joy to the World. Lord because the Lord is come that you come to us Lord. You call the Sheep saved us Lord. You're leading us your guiding us or may we be sensitive to your leading maybe fulfill all your plans and all your purpose is Lord or May the world be a different place this Christmas because Christ in us the hope of glory. I thank you for these that are here today. Pray Lord of there's any monsters that have yet to receive you have to be born again by your spirit that they wouldn't leave this place today that they would write with a rat just cry out to you and say Lord. I want to be that new creation. I want that compassion. I want that Joy. I want that piece. I want that love I want that kindness. I want that gentleness. I want self-control all the things Lord that you have for me, and I know it on my own I can I can I can't do it until Lord. I surrender all I'm surrendering all to you. And more thank you is your word says that all who come to you and no wise would you cast them out? Give us courage today Lord fill us with your spirit overflowing. For Your Glory and for our good we pray these things in The Wonderful Name of Jesus, we all agreed saying amen. Amen stand to your feet will send you out with songs.
