Real Faith Looks Inward

Luke 2:25 NASB95
And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

Luke 2:36–37 NASB95
And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers.
Luke 2:

Real Faith requires an honest appraisal of our own need

We truly begin to live by faith when we come to understand, there is no other option.
When we look inside we recognize that our greatest need isn’t things of this world, but reconciliation with God.

Real Faith recognizes the sufficiency of God’s grace

Like water to a thirsting man, God’s grace is EXACTLY what satisfies.
Jesus didn’t come to make our journey through life more comfortable, He came to make our Eternity secure!
What God has done through Christ is enough!

Real Faith rests in God’s presence

When we understand what God has done through Jesus Christ, we simply rely upon that alone.

Real Faith Looks Forward

Luke 2:26 NASB95
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Simeon knew God’s promises regarding His Messiah.

Like a destination on a road map, God had clearly proclaimed His intention to send a Messiah.
We have our trip in a few month’s planned out. We know where we need to be at each step of the trip.
Simeon knew the promises because he studied God’s Word.

Simeon eagerly anticipated the fulfillment of God’s promise.

Like the child waiting for Christmas morning so must we be with eager anticipation and great hope.
He was quite literally living his life for this moment!

Real Faith Looks Outward

Luke 2:38 NASB95
At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Anna is the first evangelist in the New Testament.
Before Paul, before Phillip, before Peter, before John the Baptist, Anna was telling others the good news.

God used an elderly widow to be the first to proclaim to others the Messiah.

Real Faith cannot be hidden but must come out!
