Jesus does all things well!

This is a great passage of scripture that is found only in Mark, but the key verse is found (v.37) and we can learn much about doing things well in our walk with Christ and for Christ.
Mark 7:37 NASB95
37 They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”
What is the end result of the passage, I know we have not read anything but this verse as of yet, but what can you know from this verse?
When you think about Jesus has He done anything for you? Is it just what is promised or more? I want you to just think about that as we go through this section and we will answer that question at the end.
Jesus is up close and personal and we have seen that illustrated before and will see more of that in our passage today.
Jesus healed a woman’s child because of her faith (Mk7:24-30)
Jesus healed a man of legions of demons (Mk6:20)
Jesus healed Jairus daughter (mk5:21-24; 40-42)
Each one of these were done personally, somewhat privately, not for the crowds but for the person. Look at our passage today and see how the Narrative goes.
Mark 7:31–32 NASB95
31 Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis. 32 They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to lay His hand on him.
Mark 7:33–34 NASB95
33 Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva; 34 and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”
Mark 7:35–36 NASB95
35 And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly. 36 And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it.
Mark 7:37 NASB95
37 They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”
What do you see, what do you notice, what sticks out to you?

The Narrative

The journey continues, Jesus compassion continues, and the results are astonishing.
__________________________________________
The journey continues sometimes in unlikely direction (Mk7:31)
The journey continues in personal fashion (Mk7:32-33)
The journey continues pointing to the Father (Mk7:34)
The journey continues with proven results and purpose (Mk7:35)
The journey continues with some specific direction (Mk7:36)
The journey continues with astonishment (Mk7:37)

Jesus leaves from where according to (v.31)?
Jesus is going where according to (v.31)?
(Insert picture Tyre to Sidon to Sea of Galilee picture already saved)
So Jesus is going back to the Sea of Galilee but it seems He is going the wrong direction, He goes North to go South? Now (v.31) also mentions Decapolis too, so here is a map, and Decapolis consisted of 10 Greco-Roman cities filled with Gentiles and some Hellenistic Jews.
(Insert picture of Decapolis map; already saved on computer)
Remember Legion? This is where he went to preach about Jesus
Mark 5:20 NASB95
20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.
So where Jesus is now, is a very populated area, many had already heard about Jesus so it is not amazing there is a crowd at all.
What does the crowd do (v.32)?
Do we try to bring people to Jesus? If so, how do we do it? (person, prayer)
Why? Because of our faith we know Jesus can help.
What does Jesus do (v.33)?
Takes him aside, Jesus touches Him (I’m going to expand on these verses (v.32-34) more in a few minutes
What does Jesus say (v.34)?
Ephphatha! which in Aramaic mean’s “be opened”
What were the results (v.35)?
ears opened, tongue healed so could speak plainly
What were the instructions (v.36)?
Don’t tell anyone, and it seems the more Jesus says don’t say anything that people say more.
What do you think they were proclaiming (v.36)? - i know it is subjective answer
What was the proclamation (v.37)?
This proclamation was among the crowd who saw the miracle and it was that He does all things well.

Jesus way of treating people

Jesus life was a living example for us. In our passage we can glean much just from the two verses (vv.33-34) and may we take a few minutes and focus on them.

Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
Jesus had open utilization
Jesus gave heavenly glorification (Jn13:31-32; Jn17:4; Col3:17)
Jesus had heartfelt compassion (Mk6:34; 2Cor1:3-4)
Jesus articulated in anticipation
______________________________________
Jesus gave personal attention
So, the crowd brings this deaf, mute to Jesus and implores healing, implores a touch.
Jesus is the only one who can restore a person to the position and purpose in which they were created for in the first place.
Restoration happens on a personal level so Jesus gives the man personal attention away from the crowd.
What can we learn about personal attention? Crowd is OK, but what changes lives is the personal touch, from your heart to the persons to lead them to come to know Jesus. May we always be willing and be giving personal attention to people.
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
The crowd brought him, the Lord separated him.
Jesus gave heavenly glorification
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
Jesus meets a person right where they are at so He can communicate with them. He could not hear, so speaking to him was not going to work, he need to be up close and personal with him
Jesus put his fingers in his ears so the man would know Jesus was going to do something with his ears.
Jesus touched the tongue so the man would know Jesus was going to do something with tongue.
Jesus articulated in anticipation
Jesus did not speak in ways or do things in ways people could not understand; He did and explained so they would understand.
Jesus, through His words is able to communicate with us to the heart of the matter, our problem, His solution and His way.
May we always communicate with people in a manner like Jesus that is in close association to the person; meet them where they are at!
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
Jesus had open2 utilization
Jesus had open utilization
Jesus gave heavenly glorification
Jesus utilized what He know would work, saliva
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
It was believed that saliva had medicinal value
Jesus articulated in anticipation
May we utilize what we have to help people. God has given abilities and items to help us to minister to others.
Jesus articulated in anticipation
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
Jesus had open utilization
Jesus gave heavenly glorification
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
Jesus looked up to heaven acknowledging where the power to do this came from and who gets the glory. This was typical of Jesus wasn’t it?
Jesus articulated in anticipation
Even though we may be God’s tool that He uses may God get the glory.
John 13:31–32 NASB95
31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him; 32 if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.
Jesus is glorified, the father is glorified in Him!
John 17:4 NASB95
4 “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.
Jesus gave glory to the Father by accomplishing the work the Father gave Him to do.
May we glorify the Father through the Son by completing the work He has given us o do.
Colossians 3:17 NASB95
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:17 NASB95
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:23 NASB95
23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
Jesus had open utilization
Jesus gave heavenly glorification
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
Jesus had compassion we have seen that before; remember they originally were leaving to have some alone time but Jesus saw crowd and had compassion for them for they were like sheep without a shepherd (paraphrase of MK6:34)
How can we have this compassion that Jesus showed in the letting out of the sigh? It is by our experiences, the things that make it possible for us to be up close and personal with someone. Makes me think of these verses
2Cor5
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Our history can be just what someone needs to hear to help them to open their ears to Jesus and then be able to speak plainly about Jesus.
We may be familiar with the term “oh bless their heart” and it can be a shallow thing, but it does not have to be. You can know what someone is going through when you have been through something similar. You can have compassion on them, you can bring comfort to them.
Jesus gave personal attention
Jesus had close association
Jesus had open utilization
Jesus gave heavenly glorification
Jesus had heartfelt compassion
Jesus articulated in anticipation
Jesus spoke with anticipation that the ears would be opened.
Jesus spoke by faith; we too can speak by faith that the Lord will hear our prayers and answer our prayers in accordance to God’s will.
Things may not be answered the way we expect, they way we desire or when we desire, but we know God answers.
May we be willing to offer prayers of faith up for others.
But wait, there is more to cover today in this passage

He has done all things well

Started today with a question but had not answered it yet, still want to go a little more in (v.37) before asking the question again. Let’s make some observations about the declaration in (v.37).
Mark 7:37 NASB95
37 They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”
The crowd was “astonished; astonished when they saw the miracle (Mk7:37)
The crowd had been astonished when they heard the teaching (Mk1:22; Mk6:2)
Mark 1:22 NKJV
22 And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
And look at
Mark 6:2 NASB95
2 When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?
People were astonished by Jesus before His death, burial and resurrection and may we be astonished by Him too. I think we have discussed that before.
They also make a proclamation that He did all things well; has Jesus done all things well for you?
Has Jesus done all things well for you?
Has Jesus given you rest for your soul (Mt11:28-30)
Matthew 11:28–29 NASB95
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:30 NASB95
30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Has He saved you from your sin problem (Isa59:2; Rom5:8; Mt28:18-20; Mk16:15-16)?
Romans 5:8 NASB95
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Has He given you life full (Jn10:10)?
John 10:10 NASB95
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
Has he given you peace that the world could not give you (Jn14:27)?
John 14:27 NASB95
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Has He reconciled you (Rom5:10)?
Romans 5:10 NASB95
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
So, the question remains, has Jesus done anything for you, is it more than you expected? Is it more than you deserve?
Amazing grace how sweet the sound to the deaf, mute man today, but it is a sweet sound to us too when we learn to follow the example of how Jesus treated people. When we do we may be God’s tool to lead people to the grace of God.
