Illustration: William Booth could not sleep one evening, so he went for a walk in the night.
He walked down to the poor side of London and there, in the cover of darkness, saw the impoverished and beaten half-lives that existed in that setting.
The rain was beating down on some of London’s derelicts who were sleeping near the curbsides.
When Booth returned home, he told his wife, “I’ve been to hell.”
Ot of that nightmarish experience came the dream of the Salvation Army.
Had Booth not left the security of his home, he might never have become aware of the needs of the homeless masses.
We have a compassionate heavenly Father who casts out none who come to Jesus
Illustration: Ann Clare Boothe Luce (March 10, 1903[1][2] – October 9, 1987) was an American author, politician, U.S. Ambassador and public conservative figure.
She was the first American woman appointed to a major ambassadorial post abroad.
A versatile author, she is best known for her 1936 hit play The Women, which had an all-female cast.
Her writings extended from drama and screen scenarios to fiction, journalism and war reportage.
She was the wife of Henry Luce, publisher of Time, Life, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated.
But of all that Clare Boothe Luce did or achieved in life, what left the most indelible mark on her life was when she, at the age of seventy-five years old, was asked, “Do yo have any regrets?”
she answered: “Yes, I should have been a better person.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, and I remember a girlhood friend of mine who had a brain tumor and called me three times to come and see her.
I was always too busy, and when she died, I was profoundly ashamed.
I still remember that after fifty-six years.”

Therefore, every chance we get,
Every First Sunday Sitting Down to Share Together in the LORD’s Supper
Celebrating the LORD’s supper every Sunday
we who believe in Jesus Christ,
ought to thank our heavenly father
