How to Discern God’s Will

James 4:15

Introduction

Don’t Waste Your Life…Desire to Do God’s Will vs.15

Surrender to His Will

“If the Lord Will’s”
True believers desire to fulfill God’s will as an act of Worship. ; ; ; ; ;

Pray for His Will

Pray thy will be done in earth and heaven.
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
KJV

Seek the Word to Understand His Will

Seek the Lord and He may be found. His will is revealed in the Word.
Connection between doing God’s will and obedience to Scripture.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.KJV
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
What is God’s revealed will for every Christian?
In a broad since it is the Lord’s will to obey all of His Word.
For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
It is Gods will for
People to be saved ;
Christians to be Spirit-filled
Christians to be Sanctified
Christians to be Submissive
Christians to be Thankful
Christians to be willing to Suffer ,
These are just some of the clear things in Scripture that is God’s will for each and every Christian.
When we live our lives according to God’s revealed will then He delights in giving us the desires of our hearts in that which is not revealed with pen and ink.
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Plan Your Life According to His Will

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
It is not wrong to make plans but it is vital that our plans are if the Lord wills. Our plans must not be about being consumed with our own lust but following the Lord’s directions.
Paul made plans many times over to visit churches and take missionary journeys as the Lord wills. Sometimes his plans were followed and sometimes God redirected his path.
Paul desired to visit Rome to be refreshed with joy.
Paul desired to travel to Corinth to correct problems in the church if the Lord willed.
Paul desired to tarry awhile in Corinth and then Ephesus before going through a great door with many adversaries. (By the way usually doing the will of God requires us to face many adversaries and adversities.
I think one of the most important keys is to make plans and then be flexible enough for God to change them.
Do What You Want to Do
If you have walked faithfully through the process of submitting, praying, seeking, planning, then do what you want.

Rest in His Will

When you know you are doing what God’s Word instructs you to do and be then you don’t have to be consumed with worry and care. You can rest in Him and know that the will of God that is not written or known to you (what some may call the mysterious will of God) will be revealed to you as you rest in what you know for a fact is His will.
Acts 21:14 KJV 1900
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV 1900
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.
Patience, waiting, trusting, depending on, and being content with the Lord will even if it is different than we had planned.
Resting in God’s will is a demonstration of trusting in the Sovereignty of God in every area of our lives. When it comes down to the basics WE LIVE BECAUSE HE WILLS IT!

Conclusion

Today we must Submit, Pray, Seek, Plan, and Rest in the Lord to fulfill His will for our lives.
May the song of our life be….
Have Thine own way, Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter;
I am the clay.
Mold me and make me
After Thy will,
While I am waiting,
Yielded and still.
