East and West

The people were held captive but Baruch speaks to them a story of hope. (NRSV)
Take off the garment of your sorrow and affliction, O Jerusalem,
and put on forever the beauty of the glory from God. Do we not all have some form of despair? As Christians, we seem to cry out for revival; I know that I do. In this passage we are reminded of a promise of return from exile. Now the people exiled were exiled to Babylon, but this passage reflects of everyone, from East to West. Jesus reached his arms out wide on the cross as far as East is to West.
(NRSV)
2 Put on the robe of the righteousness that comes from God;
put on your head the diadem of the glory of the Everlasting; God is fulfilling a promise from old. (NRSV)
34 I will bring them again into the land that I swore to give to their ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and they will rule over it; and I will increase them, and they will not be diminished. God’s people have been given this promise and they are now reminded of this promise. Today, I want you to hear these words. May they lift you to renewal and revival.
(NRSV)
4 For God will give you evermore the name,
“Righteous Peace, Godly Glory.” God will give you peace. We have talked recently about Shalom and its meaning of peace. What brings you peace? I hope it is in knowing that you are secure in your salvation. God’s promises are secure in you.
(NRSV)
5 Arise, O Jerusalem, stand upon the height;
look toward the east,
and see your children gathered from west and east
at the word of the Holy One,
rejoicing that God has remembered them.
Remember that your crown, your name, all come from God’s glory. If you are a child of God, then you are caught in his glory. Let your light shine. Baruch tells us that we should rise up and look to the east and the west because the return of our children is upon us. This is a revival that we are promised.
(NRSV)
6 For they went out from you on foot,
led away by their enemies;
but God will bring them back to you,
carried in glory, as on a royal throne.
Can you remember your children wondering off to the world? Can you remember thinking that they may be lost to that very same world? Is it possible that God has a plan?
God is leveling the playing field. I know that you have had many low valley times in your life; hills that seem too high to climb.
(NRSV)
7 For God has ordered that every high mountain and the everlasting hills be made low
and the valleys filled up, to make level ground,
so that Israel may walk safely in the glory of God.
Everything is working towards God’s command. He says every tree has shaded Israel at His command. We tend to forget that God is present in our trials and tribulations.
This is a season of Joy. (NRSV)
9 For God will lead Israel with joy,
in the light of his glory,
with the mercy and righteousness that come from him.
