One Old Testament prophecy after another predicted the coming of Jesus Christ centuries before He ever arrived on Earth.
Over the coming weeks leading up to Christmas I am going to be preaching all about The King. Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the reason we are here today! We came to see Him! Every day should be about Him, and every Sunday He should be our focus. But during this season I want to place even more focus upon Him than I feel that I have been the last few months in my preaching.
Isaiah prophesied of His coming in .
Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
The Lord Himself. Jesus was not a demi-god. He was not a comic book character half man half god. Jesus was the eternal almighty God manifest in the flesh. God put on flesh to come to us.
He was fully God and fully man.
Isaiah wrote that His name shall be called Immanuel. “God with us.”
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Understand, Jesus was not second in command, He was not the second in a trinity. He was God with us. He was the mighty God in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself.
Colossians 2:9 NKJV
For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
Jesus Christ was the fullness - Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit! It’s all in Him!
Many have claimed to be God or to be God’s prophet, but none of them stand up to testing. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is unique among all the religions of the world.
Confucius died and was buried.
Lao-tzu wandered off with his water buffalo to die and never be seen again.
Buddha died of food poisoning.
Muhammed died in AD 632 his body cut up and spread across the middle east.
But Jesus rose from the dead!
Isaiah in his prophecy was declaring exactly who Jesus was “God with us”.
Why is it so important?

When you know the person and the name - You can call on them.

From the beginning people have been calling on the name of the Lord. Go back all the way to Genesis and you will begin to see a phrase that is often repeated throughout scripture.
“Called on the name of the Lord”
Genesis 4:26 NKJV
And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
They were calling to know the name of the Lord.
Abraham called and he was given a promise.
Jacob called and he was given an inheritance.
Joshua called and he was given victory.
Hannah called and she was given a son.
David called and he was given a kingdom.
Something good always happens when people call on the name of the Lord!

Salvation is in the name

Old Testament writers understood the significance of the name and that salvation was found in the name.
Psalm 124:8 NKJV
Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 20:7 NKJV
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 116:13 NKJV
I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord.
Psalm 116:
Our salvation is in the name.
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Romans 10:13 NKJV
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
1 Corinthians 6:11 NKJV
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Acts 2:21 NKJV
And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
Acts 4:12 NKJV
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

If Isaiah said he would be Immanuel, then why is His name Jesus?

Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah
Matthew 1:21 NKJV
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Immanuel - God with us.
Jesus - Yahweh saves.
Where God dwells, God saves.
Wherever He is, He will bring salvation!
Altar - Call for music.
When a wee little man named Zacchaeus climbed up into a sycamore tree to see this man from Galilee. Jesus knew what Zacchaeus was looking for...
Luke 19:9 NKJV
And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;
The list is endless.
Bartimaeus - Cried out “have mercy on me!” - healed.
Demonic from Gadara - fell at His feet worshipping - delivered.
Woman with the issue of blood - touched the hem - restored.
Jairus - brought him to his house - daughter revived.
Roman centurion - had him speak - a life saved.
Where God dwells, God saves!
Philippians 2:9–11 NKJV
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
What do you need today? What situation do you need Jesus to come into?
Have you been baptized in His name the name of Jesus?
Do you need salvation from some circumstance?
