OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE GOOD IN THIS LIFE FOR THE LIFE TO COME

THEY ARE FAITHFUL IN THE MINISTRY OF KINGDOM EXPANSION

OPEN A PACK OF CIGARRETTES WHILE READING THE TEXT

The odds are that this kid will be one of the 14-17000 youths trafficked in the US each year.

ITS AMAZING THE THINGS WE CARE ABOUT!

Today, 60 percent of the population in Dade County is without Christ; thats roughly 1.6 million people - some you know; some you and i know that if they died tonight they would spend eternity separated from the Lord

OH, and by the way, nearly 1300 people die daily from smoking related deseases

BUT WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE RECREATED TO CARE ABOUT THOSE THINGS. EVEN MORE, WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE MADE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE SITUATIONS!

BUT WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE MADE TO CARE ABOUT THOSE THINGS.

EVEN MORE, WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE RECREATED (SAVED) TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE SITUATIONS!

The name Philadelphia means “brotherly love.” Those the city was actually named after??> the spiritual significance is not missed here. They are known for who they are and what they do:

They are people who have been loved by jesus and thus are loving people

They are people who seek and are active in expressing love to one another and the surrounding world

In essence they are a people on a love mission: a mission to spread the love of Christ to as many who are undeserving of it BUT IN NEED OF IT!

THEY GOT WHAT WE FAIL TO GET: THEY ARE MORE THAN PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH: THEY UNDERSTOOD WHAT JOHN SIAD IN , (turn to this)

THEY UNDERATAND THAT THEY ARE MORE THAN A GROUP OF PEOPLE: THEY ARE A KINGDOM; THEY ARE PRIESTS TO GOD FOR HIS GLORY AND HIS DOMINION.

SO THEY ARE ABOUT THE BUSINESS OF SPREADING THE KINGDOM OF THE LOVE OF GOD SO THAT YOUNG GIRLS WHO ARE TRAFFICKED; YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE MOLESTED AND THE MYRIAD OF OTHERS ARE RESCUED AND FREED BY THE SAME GOSPEL!

SO JESUS ENCOURAGES THEM (v7)

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

WHO HAS THE KEY OF DAVID.

Key of David: Key equals authority: Kingdom authority

o Believers must understand themselves as a kingdom: a group pf priests gathered IN Jesus for the sake of expanding and extending His kingdom: his reign and rule in the world.

o Since they were doing this Jesus is encouraging them

WHO HAS THE KEY OF DAVID.

David’s throne and kingdom would have no end; Now, in Christ, you are a significant part of this kingdom enduring and expanding.

THEY HAVE BEEN TAKING ADVANTAGE OF EVERY MISSION OPPORTUNITY WITHOUT FAIL AND AS A RESULT THE LORD SAYS TO THEM: “I WILL KEEP OPENING DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF BROKEN PEOPLE FOR MY GLORY AND MY FAME!!!!

Around the world, doors are always opening or closing, so it is important that the church be alert and ready to take advantage of the opportunities God presents. When Christ opens or shuts a door, nobody can interfere.

SO we can be confident that when a door opens, no one can shut it! It may not come to pass immediately, but if you remain patient and faithful and hold fast to what you have, then the Lord will reward you with the fruit of someone coming to see Him as Lord!

BUT HERE IS THE REALITY: YOU CAN FAIL TO WALK THROUGH THE DOOR!!!!! Then you will miss the opportunity to be significant for the Lord

If you have no open doors it is because you have failed to walk through the ones set before you in the past.

Walk through that open door:

- Feeding and ministering to the homeless

- Engaging and encouraging those oppressed in sex trafficking

- Missions work in another city, or country

- Working with the local public schools to mentor young men and women

- Penetrating the community with the gospel through evangelistic engagement

- Going to lunch with that friend or co-worker who is lost but respects you

SO WHY IS THE LORD CONTINUING TO OPEN DOORS FOR THIS CHURCH? WHAT WILL MAKE HIM CONTINUALLY OPEN DOORS FOR OUR CHURCH IN THIS COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD? FOR YOU IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, JOB ETC? SEVERAL THINGS!

Note the word “live.” It is intentional in order to prove that those who overcome and have opportunities for greater work for the kingdom are those whose whole lives express a dependence on the Lord

The mission depends on Jesus in order to be fruitful and continue
