The Creation
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He created all things, things seen and things unseen. Everything that we can come up with in our little minds, God created in the beginning.
The last thing God created was man and woman.
(ESV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Because God created all things, He is the only one that has the right to give His authority over His creation to others.
When we have children, at times we will ask them to take care of our property while we are away. This property could be a home, animals, or even other children. In essence we are extending our authority over our property through the son or daughter. They go forth making decisions for the property in our absence. Good or bad they have been put in charge for the well-being of the property. In the same way God put Adam and Eve in charge of taking care of His property. They had authority to do this.
Adam and Eve did not have complete authority to do whatever they wanted, there was rules to follow. God was still the main authority, and He had the right to let them continue to keep the authority or take it away. In the same way our children have rules they must follow when they have been put in a authoritative position. they cant sell the property or destroy it without permission from the one who put the authority upon them.
God said, take care of my creation, you have dominion over it. I have created you in my image and you have the means to do this.
What are some of these means God created man with? Or we could say what does it mean to be created in the image of God?
To help us, I will give us some answers that it is not:
It is not- a superior intellect like God has. The angels way exceed our intellect. Although we were created with some intellect to decide right and wrong.
It is not- made in an actual physical image of God. God is not a man of flesh and bone.
