Introduction

Greetings...
This afternoon, we are going to be examining “three facts to believe” “three commands to obey” and “three promises to hold on to.”
All three points are reflected upon the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

With this in mind let us examine our lesson for today.

Three Facts To Believe

Mark 1:15 ESV
15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

The death of Jesus.

He wasn’t magically taken down before He died, Jesus died on the cross.
He wasn’t magically taken down before He died, Jesus died on the cross.
Matthew 27:50 ESV
50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
Mt 27:
He had a spear thrust through His body.
John 19:34 ESV
34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.

The burial of Jesus.

He wasn’t thrown on the side of the cross but carried away and buried in a tomb.
He wasn’t thrown on the side of the cross but carried away and buried in a tomb.
Matthew 27:59–60 ESV
59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.
Mt 27:59-

The resurrection of Jesus.

He wasn’t stolen by His disciples and buried somewhere else.
Matthew 28:5–6 ESV
5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
Mt 28:

Summery

Why say all this, because more and more are denying it, but these three facts cannot be denied to those that actually examine them.
In the Babylonian Talmud we read, “One the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged.” (http://bit.ly/2Bfr7B1)
Lucian of Samosata of the 2nd century wrote, “The Christians…worship a man to this day - the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account...” (Ibid)

Three Commands To Obey

2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

Faith is the foundation.

This takes study of God’s Word to know Jesus is the Christ.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
This takes dedication to

Repentance is the walls.

It takes an understanding of not just who Jesus is but who we are to build on faith in Him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Luke 17:10 ESV
10 So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’ ”
Lk 17:10

Baptism is the roof.

When we act on faith and are immersed in a watery grave, in the likeness of the death, burial, and resurrection, we are putting the finishing touches on obedience unto salvation.
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Summery

When one examines theses three facts and obeys these three commands they are going to love these next three promises.

Three Promises To Hold On To

Col 1:
Colossians 1:22–23 ESV
22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Every spiritual blessing in Christ is promised.

When one obeys the gospel and strives for righteousness, they will come in contact with “every” spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

Peace that cannot be surmounted is promised.

On this earth peace is the goal of 100 percent of people and yet true peace in only found in Christ through faithfulness.
Philippians 4:7 ESV
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Rom 8:38-
Romans 8:38–39 ESV
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Eternity with God is promised.

There is a home awaiting those that are crowned with victory.
Jn 14:2-
John 14:2–3 ESV
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
2 Timothy 4:8 ESV
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

Summery

When one examines these three facts, obeys these three commands and hopes in these three promises there faithfulness will be that which is beautiful in the sight of their God.

Conclusion

Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
