SPEAK TO NEED
Come Alive, Worth IT, You are a Finisher, Making a difference. Many of us are resistant to change to relinquish control, even through the change may benefit us. CHRIST DIED AND ROSE AGAIN SO THAT FIGHT CAN BE REAL AND WON IN OUR LIVES! BUT WE CAN BE RESISTANT TO THE SIMPLICITY OF THE GOSPEL MESSAGE! FOR SOME REASON MANY OF US CHOOSE TO DO LIFE ALONE, WE KEEP TO OURSELF, THINK TO OURSELVES, AND FIND NO ISSUE WITH DOING LIFE ALONE… MEN ARE THE BIGGEST LONERS… SOME HOW PRIDE PLAUGES. C.S. Lewis says,
“A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and , of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” ~ C.S. Lewis
Why are we resistant to humility, why can’t we cooperate with others?
1 Corinthians 10:12 ESV
12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
How we live in community and handled the troubles in our lives let’s us know where we are spiritually? What? That’s right in isolation there is no spiritual growth!!! BUT SOME AS ALL I NEED IS ME, MYSELF, I, MY TV, MY INTERNET AND I CAN HAVE AN EXPERIENCE WITH GOD? YOU CAN BUT YOU WON’T GROW? AM I RIGHT ABOUT IT? THAT’S GOOD NEWS!
Hallelujah!!!
PLEASE STAND WITH ME FOR THE READING OF GOD’S HOLY WORD!
2 Corinthians 12:1–10 ESV
1 I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. 3 And I know that this man was caught up into paradise—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. 5 On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses— 6 though if I should wish to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth; but I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
State Key Verse: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Cor 12:9)
I like to preach this morning as the Holy Spirit guides from the thought...
State the Title: EXPECTING GREAT! <Tells somebody THINGS CAN LOOK BETTER OR WORSE NOT MATTER WHAT… STAY ON MESSAGE!

STAY ON MESSAGE!

Prayer of Illumination: Father, send your Holy Spirit and fill us that our hearts are receptive to your word. Help me to be faithful to your word, give me clarity needful for our journey, give me your power to preach with the authority you have given, and passion for your glory to be revealed, guide us by your wisdom, may I decrease and you INCREASE LORD JESUS and set all captives free, loosen every chain in Jesus name.
INTRODUCTION
Creed, baby expecting… naming Alexandra and Joshua
IT not Pauls church......
Who: The Apostle Paul writes this letter to the church of Corinth (planted on second missionary journey) and sends it by Titus hand. This is the 4th and final letter; 1 Cor was the second letter, the first letter as lost, the 3rd was the tearful letter possibly following his painful second visit.
What: A minority of the church of Corinth are still questioning Paul’s Apostleship; false apostles are now there in the church, Paul defends his apostleship of Jesus Christ because the Gospel and the spiritual life of the Corinthian Church is as stake.
When: He wrote this letter on his 3rd missionary journey.
Where: From Macedonia
Why: Chapter 11 changes his rhetorical strategy and argues his points using the foolishness of boasting to exposes his opponents for who they really are “false teachers.” These super-apostles preach a different Jesus, a different gospel message, and come with a different spirit. They are self serving, but Paul’s motivation is sacrifice, suffering, and service for the sake of others. Paul has had many difficulties in ministry and some are saying he does not have the spiritual experiences of the super-apostles.

In our text today Paul presents his spiritual experiences show who he is today. But, who has Paul learned because of His spiritual experiences that can help us?

He learned to...

I. EMBRACE THE HEAVENLY VISION OF CHRIST (vv. 1-4)

A. ________ GOD DON”T WASTE GLORY

Dr. King said my eyes have see the glory of the coming of the LORD; so he was not fearing anything or any man.!
look at our text.
2 Corinthians 12:1–4 ESV
1 I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. 3 And I know that this man was caught up into paradise—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter.
LISTEN PAUL IS NOW EVEN TEMPERED (POWER UNDER CONTROL) WITH TOLERANCE AND COMPASSION FOR GOD’S PEOPLE.

B. BELIEVERS WILL HAVE SPIRITUALLY HIGH MOMENTS IN CHRIST. INTIMACY MEANS EXPERIENCE EXCLUSIVE TO THE RELATIONSHIP. A PRIVATE ATMOSPHERE!

THERE ARE SOMETHINGS AND EXPERIENCES THAT ONLY YOU AND GOD WILL KNOW AND MAYBE UNEXPRESSABLE! HALLELUJAH MOMENTS!!! NOBODY ELSE CAN VERIFY, BUT BECAUSE IT IS REAL YOU KEEP IT CLOSE AND IT HELPS TO GUIDE YOUR LIFE. (YOUR EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF GOD)
Galatians 6:4 ESV
4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.
THIS IS A SPIRITUAL MOVE OF GOD!!!!

C. THIS A NEW SEASON OF EXPECTION ______________ ARE YOU EXPECTING GOD TO SHOW YOU THINGS BEYOND YOU? We are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices holy and acceptable to God this is our worship.

In our text today Paul expounds on His motives for ministry contrasting that of his opposition. But, what are Paul’s motives reveal, so that our actions can speak the same deep concern for God’s people?
For the Church we see...

II. TO BE HUMBLED IN CHRIST (vv. 5-8)

A. ______ Someone the things we are stuggling with are necessary...

watch this; Paul knows better now...
2 Corinthians 12:5–8 ESV
5 On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses— 6 though if I should wish to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth; but I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

B. AS BELIEVERS WE WILL ALSO HAVE SOME SPIRITUALLY LOW MOMENTS IN CHRIST.

THE THORN IS A REGULATOR OF PRIDE AND HUMILITY. SOME OF US WONDER WHY SOME PROBLEMS ARE STILL HANGING AROUND ITS TO KEEP YOUR HEAD FROM GETTING TO BIG. THAT YOUR HEALTH, YOUR FINANCES, YOUR RELATIONSHIP MAYBE WHAT IS KEEPING YOU GROUNDED. THIS THORN IS NOT SOME ROSE BUSH THORN OR CACTUS NEEDLE, BUT A STACK THAT HAS IMPALED HIM TO KEEP HIM FROM BECOMING A TWO HEADED MONSTER!!! (DRACULA) DR. JEKEL AND MR. HYDE. GOD SENT THAT THING TO GET YOU READY AND RIGHT!!!
Proverbs 16:18 ESV
18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Romans 5:3–5 ESV
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

C. EXPECT HUMBLING EXPERIENCES ________ GROW THROUGH THE MESSAGE!

In our text today Paul expounds on His motives for ministry contrasting that of his opposition. But, what are Paul’s motives reveal so that our actions can speak the same deep concern for God’s people?
For the Church we see...

III. TO BE HOPEFUL IN CHRIST (vv. 9-10)

A. _______ If we don’t expect God to move in our lives we become slaves to our circumstances.

Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Look; Paul prayed, and prayed, and prayed, but watch how God answered him.
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 ESV
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 11:5–6 ESV
5 Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles. 6 Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.

B. As Believers we must acknowledge our limitations and weaknesses before the LORD.

We must see things right
Romans 12:3 ESV
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
1 Corinthians 1:27 ESV
27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
In our weakness he shows us what is possible with him.
Matthew 19:26 ESV
26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
We don’t have to be slaves to our circumstance
Ephesians 3:20 ESV
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
His grace power helps us move beyond our weaknesses and limitations.

C. EXPECT GOD’S GRACE TO GIVE BIRTH TO HOPE________ SERVE WITH THE MESSAGE? WE MUST FIGHT DIFFERENTLY!!! THERE IS TOO MUCH AT STAKE! LIFE IS THE GREATEST WE HAVE.

Recapitulation: Paul's spiritual experiences helped him to become more Holy, Humble, and hopeful in Christ.
