Introduction
Seek, Seek, Seek!
Seek the Lord Because He is Mighty Good!
What will we find if we go looking for the presence of God?
Dr. Blackaby tells us that we will find God working.
Reverend Spurgeon said “It must be a blessed thing to seek, or we should not be thus stirred up to do so.”
What will we find?
An ever present help in need?
Maybe, just what we are looking for.
Psalm 105:4
Seek the Lord!
Like the Preacher in Ecclesiastes, we tend to reach for the natural first.
We look for easy solutions.
We want to know what the world has to offer.
But then we must Seek the Lord!
You need Jesus!
Own it!
Wear it like a badge of honor!
You are His out of necessity.
The Lord Desires it.
You want it, He wants it, what keeps us from seeking Him?
The Holy Spirit’s convicting work, versus the devil’s guilt.
When sin finds a home in your heart, we tend to run and hide from the Lord.
(Adam and Eve)
You need to hear it rightly, as the direction from the Father who loves and misses you.
Why don’t you call?
(The heartache when people don’t share the struggles)
He often will not give us rest until He is found.
What about those times where it seems God’s not home?
Have you ever sent up a prayer and felt like it never made it past the air above your head?
There are times that can be soul crushing, where the weight of life and its burdens are enormous, and you are well aware of your need for help, but you can’t find it.
What are we to do when we go looking and can’t find Him?
We tend towards the Adam and Eve again.
We get angry, or frustrated.
What do we assume?
We are sinners in the hands of an angry God.
And sometimes the silence can be so quiet you feel like you’re going deaf.
C.S. Lewis (apologist author) said “a door slammed in [my] face, and a sound of bolting and double bolting on the inside.
After that, silence.
You may as well turn away.
The longer you wait, the more emphatic the silence will become.”
~C.S. Lewis
But what should we do?
Seek Him!
You knock on that door until you’re heard.
You stop whatever you are doing and you go searching for the One you need.
Take the example of the widow and the unrighteous king.
Won’t God hear His people and respond when they cry to him day and night?
When the Apostles tried to cast out a certain demon and couldn’t they asked Jesus why and He replied, “because of your little faith.”
Sometimes God wants us to put more faith into our request, believe a little more, trust Him with what we are beggin for.
And we cry out like the hopeless father for the soul of His son, “I believe, help me in my unbelief.”
Sometimes you need to know how desperate you are.
Seek the Lord and His Strength.
Seek His Strength!
This is where we abide!
After we seek Him and find Him, we must continue in Him by seeking His strength.
All the forces of hell are turned against the ones who have responded to the Word of God’s call to seek the Lord.
3 of the seed groups bear out this intense battle that takes place.
Some fall away because they never really sought the Lord.
Some fall away because the road is too long and the journey too arduous.
Some fall away because Satan continues to put the worlds cares before them as of supreme importance.
That is the battle!
And listen Christian: It will always be a battle.
Strength is needed to stand
Ephesians 6:10–13 (ESV): 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Ephesians 3:16 (ESV) — 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
This is inner strength, and its not physical.
Its a peace that perseveres.
Where does strength come from?
Zechariah 4:6 (ESV) — 6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
It Comes from His presence
Psalm 138:3 (ESV) — 3 On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.
Strength is found in prayer!
Prayer that takes us into His presence.
You have to enter the throne room of the Almighty with the confidence of a pure heart, cleansed by the blood, and held in place by constant humility.
There is power in the blood!
There is power in the presence!
Seek His Presence!
The presence of God was the place where the Nation of Israel found their strength.
Psalm 132:8 (ESV) — 8 Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
When the ark was present, God was present, and strength for the battle was found.
Moses told God, if you won’t go I won’t go.
Exodus 33:14–15 (ESV): 14 And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.
It is in the Presence of Our Great King that we find all that we need.
What do you need today that you cannot find in the presence of God?
He has everything!
He wants you to have it!
But you have to go seek Him, because He desires your presence!
Like a game of tag - God is home base
Like a Father who deeply loves His child - He wants to be present with you.
This seeking must never end!
For Heaven is His Presence!
If you want Heaven you must go before Him!
Conclusion
We are going to seek Him Wednesday Night
John 4:23–24 (ESV) — 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
