Thanksgiving

Why should we be thankful?
Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 ESV
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Why should we be thankful when the world is so broken? Why should we be thankful when days can be hard, people can be mean, life can get hard?
Yes the world is full of sin and suffering, but we can be thankful because God has offered us a way out.
There is rescue! We are not thankful because everything is good, but because this isn’t the final chapter.
Thanos-There is hope
God is a rescuing God!
God is an “on time” God
God has given more than we deserve!
Galatians 4:4–5 ESV
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Psalm 50:23 ESV
The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”
How do we show our gratitude to God?
Luke 17:11–18 ESV
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
Worship!
God given us more than we deserve
God gives us good things, to show that He is the true good thing! If you pray for what you want, get it, and then stop praying you have missed the point.
If you have good things in your life, family, friends, youre smart, comfortable life..who do you thank? Parents, yourself?
We thank God by offering him thanks and obedience!
When should we be thankful?
1 Thessalonians 5:15–18 ESV
See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
We are not thankul for every thing that happens, but we can be thankful in everything that happens!
James 1:1 ESV
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings.
James 1:3–4 ESV
for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2–4 ESV
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2 ESV
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
Its in pain that we are given strenth and endurance
Its in pain that we see God’s grace more vividly!
We rejoice in every circumstance because God is there in every circumstance! He is enough, He is there for us to lean on. He reminds us this is not the end. He strenghtens us, and helps us to see more of Him.
Firey furnace- We rejoice not becuase the fire is out, or we have no suffering, but because God is in with us!
God may not take us out of a tough situation, but what He does is just walk in it with us!
