Intro
I want you to go with me on a trip down memory lane
Tell the BBC Story from Sophmore year
I had the chance to make an impact on our team’s season
If I had only taken my time and shot the ball!
The crazy thing is, the next day at practice I went to that exact location in our gym and sank the very first shot I took
Made it even worse!
What is a regret you are living with?
Is anyone willing to share?
Share the regret of leaving Houston.
I should have stayed
But I would not have been here, met my wife, had my son or met you guys!
Here is the great thing about God:
He will never give up on you!
He has a calling for your life
He is just waiting on you to step up and get after it!
So how do we live a life without regret?
Don’t Look Back
Life is a race that we are running
dioko - Dee - oh - koh
This means to press on
In other places it is used to represent chasing after something and even to harrass
Paul is using this in a foot race metaphor
Life is a race that we are running
If you know me I HATE RUNNING!!
The only thing that I want to do when we start running is stop
But when we have to run I don’t want to know how far I have come, I want to know how much longer I have left!
When we are running this race in life we can’t keep looking behind us.
Reflection is a good thing but if we are always looking behind us then we wont know where we are going
It is good to see how far we have come but not dwell on what we were
If we just keep thinking about the failures that we have experienced or mistakes that we have made, the enemy will use that against us.
The goal is ahead of us, not behind us.
We have to keep reaching for it!
The greek word here means to stretch out for
Keep Pushing
Paul talks about pressing on here
dioko - Dee - oh - koh
This means to press on
In other places it is used to represent chasing after something and even to harrass
While Paul may be talking about a foot race here, I relate this passage with Crossfit.
We have been in the middle of a WOD and I feel like quitting
Life gets like this too.
IT gets hard
But we have to keep pushing forward
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever!
God did not call us to a life of ease
Reaching towards the goal God has for us requires hard work!
Finish Strong
Oh man how many times did I hear this this week
Last round, finish strong!!!
Or, this is the last set, give it all you’ve got!
There is something about coming to the end of a workout and knowing that you laid everything you ahd into that workout
Are we living our lives like that?
Will we come to the end of our lives with regret or with reward?
Most of us are a long way away from the finish line of life
But what if we aren’t
Remember Tim McGraw’s song Live Like You Were Dying?
He said
"I was in my early forties
With a lot of life before me
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days
Looking at the x-rays
Talkin' 'bout the options
And talkin' 'bout sweet time"
I asked him
"When it sank in
That this might really be the real end
How's it hit you
When you get that kind of news?
Man, what'd you do?"
He said
"I went skydiving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fumanchu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying"
And he said
"Someday I hope you get the chance
