Season of Joy

What is your baseline for joy?
Let’s define joy for a moment...
There are newer fields of study dedicated to measuring happiness, joy, life satisfaction.
Soon our speakers will be playing joy to the world
Jesus says that he wants our joy to be complete.
Jesus gives us his joy.
How do we have seasons of joy?
When life is filled with sorrow, suffering, pain and disappointment.
Determine your sources of joy and prioritize
Jesus
Salvation
Family
Work
Hobbies/Life
Understand your expressions of joy
Some people are crazy joyful
Some people look the same when they are angry, or elated
How would you describe your daily level of joy?
How do you feel first thing in the morning (after coffee)?
How do you feel last thing at night?
What are you doing to fuel biblical joy?
Prayer?
Word?
Faithful fellowship?
We can actively change our baseline
Specifically in regards to the holidays…I went from GRINCH to Cindy Lue Who
I had a bah humbug attitude - related to some bad experiences in the past. Family trauma ruined a Thanksgiving/Christmas
First Christmas with Amy!
Decided after returning to Spokane and having a generally low baseline for joy that this Christmas would be different!!!
I have maintained it with a few practicals
Set a list of things that are exciting to do.
Set a calendar to make the season what you want it to be
Set faith goals during down times
Set limits to your worldliness (spending, eating, etc)
All these practicals can be used at anytime of year.
What are the 3 most joyful times of your life?
What did that time feel like?
What memories are associated to it?
How would you describe the time leading up and following?
Let’s set this as the peak of your joyfulness.
You can attain this repeatedly, but perhaps not higher without greateer faith transformation.
Be content
Be seeking.
Be set on Jesus.
