What exactly is true satisfaction? Is it simply being content? Is it receiving all that you want? Is it accepting, with joy, whatever comes into your life?
Lets me share with you some suggested scenarios that some would suggest provides true satisfaction.
Are you frustrated with getting less return on your investment then you should? Invest your funds in our portfolio and follow our trusted program. We can guarantee a much larger return that will truly give you that satisfaction and peace of mind that you have always wanted.
Is that truly where you can find your satisfaction? By the way, it is actually illegal to guarantee a return on investment unless it is specifically stated in an annuity.
How about this one? Are you getting tired of being rejected by every potential date? Is your love life less than satisfactory? Could it be that your aftershave is just a major turn off? Try our new fragrance; Essence of BO. Everyone will just be wild over this fragrance.
Is there anybody here who really thinks that this will provide true satisfaction?
What about your vehicle? Does your car have its original spunk? What about all those special gadgets and features that everyone else has but you can’t have. Do you feel like life would be more reliable if you just had a new vehicle? Why not find yourself sitting in a brand new Get-Up-and-Go. We have the latest and greatest features that let you know that you’re in the very best. You will experience true satisfaction. And you know that you need it.
Somehow, I don’t think that is going to provide true satisfaction. You see, our world tries to convince us that everyone needs something that will provide that true satisfaction. And in our consumer-oriented society, many people think they have some sort of guaranteed answer and solution if we will only pursue what they are promoting. It seems that everyone feels the need for something that will provide that true satisfaction.

If you haven’t guessed yet, The Bible does give an answer as to where we can find true satisfaction.
True satisfaction can be obtained only when we seek great things of God.
READ
Matthew 6:25–34 NASB95
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

True satisfaction is not gained by worrying.

Many of us would like to suggest that we never worry; we just have concerns. I probably have used that line more times than I care to admit. Let’s look to see what Webster has to say about the word worry: Two cause to feel anxious, distressed, or troubled. Personally, I don’t like any of those words. Additionally, it seems to show and incredibly strong lack of faith; or should I say a weak faith.
At a seminar one time, I recall writing down a great quote on what worry actually is. It is taking responsibility for something but God did not mean for you to have to begin with.
Think about this: what type of good gain or result can worrying attain? Let me actually tell you some things that can happen as a result of worrying. One of the most obvious, I believe, is that you will have gained an ulcer or other physical issues which will allow you a frequent and more personal relationship with your doctor. Personally, I am not really in favor of that.
Look at verse 27. Do you see the physical impact or lack of impact that worrying can provide. In addition, worrying can actually kill a person. Scientists have discovered that our bodies secrete various enzymes according to our emotions. That is why worry can have such a negative physical impact. Yet, we also know that laughter and joy actually increase longevity. Look at a couple of other verses in the Bible that describe how our emotions impact who we are.
Proverbs 14:30 NASB95
A tranquil heart is life to the body, But passion is rottenness to the bones.
Proverbs 17:22 NASB95
A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
;
. So why now, it ought to be fairly obvious the true satisfaction is not gained by worrying. In fact, the exact opposite seems to be true. Sorry if our desire is to experience true satisfaction, then where do we find it?

True satisfaction starts with seeking God

We have seen what does not work. Thus, we should not chase after the philosophies or things which the world pursues. In versus 31-33, we read in the NIV that the word used is “to run after.” It implies that the world continuously seeks, desires, searches for, chases relentlessly, etc. That sounds almost like an obsession. It almost carries with it the idea of being so absorbed and single-minded that there is no room for God.
Since I don’t want to be like an unbeliever, and I am seeking true satisfaction, what should I do? The Bible says that we should seek first God‘s kingdom and God‘s righteousness. You see, if you and I pursue and desire to do the things which God has already planned for us to do, we will find yourselves much more content. And if there are things which we actually need, we can trust for him to provide for us exactly what is best. If we don’t receive something specifically, we can trust that he knows perfectly what is needed in our lives.
However, if we choose to seek everything else and then his kingdom as a secondary option; or even simply avoid seeking God‘s way, hoping everything happens to fall into place, we are guaranteed to never be content. We will always be looking for something else; greater and better and more then we currently have. That is not the person that Christ wants the world to see. In fact, Jesus states that we would be no different than a pagan or a person of this world.
In the book of , we read “for we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This is even a greater affirmation that there is no need for us to worry even in what we are to do for the kingdom of God. After all, he is already prepared it for our benefit to bring him glory.
So by now, it should be very clear that true satisfaction is not gained by worrying. In fact, as we have read further, we see that true satisfaction takes place when we begin seeking God. Then, when we seek God for true satisfaction, we then realize where the source truly is.

True satisfaction comes from God

As we look back to verse 26, you can see that God knows even our needs for temporary satisfaction. It is comforting to know that we have not been abandoned on this planet to simply take part in a lifelong scavenger hunt. Amazingly, God is concerned about simple things such as birds and flowers. He has chosen to take care of them, providing food and nourishment, along with beauty and the ability to procreate. Hey does this in a variety of means.
But more importantly, he also knows our needs for true satisfaction, not just temporary. True satisfaction is found an eternal life through Jesus Christ. This in turn, results in our wanting to become more like Jesus every day. This leads us to wanting to make a difference on the world, rather than seeking our own pleasures. This means “seeking first his kingdom and his righteousness.“
We often speak about the many promises of God. We often talk to others about how richly he supplies all our needs. That should cause us to live like children of the king. If we can speak of these things, and even relying on these promises, we must be careful to allow God to work in our lives and be busy ourselves doing the work which he has given us. We really have no business pursuing whatever the world might try to offer as true satisfaction.

Conclusion

We know that true satisfaction is not gained by worrying. We have seen that true satisfaction begins by our seeking God. As a result, we know that true satisfaction can come only from God.
It is at this point that we can claim the promises which Jesus gave in : “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Let’s close by listening to what Paul says in:
1 Timothy 6:17–19 NASB95
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.
True satisfaction can only be obtained when we seek great things of God.
